We have rented homes from VRBO from coast to coast. This home is in a class of it's own. The furnishings and supplies are just as if you have walked into your own home. There are books, music, wi-fi, patio furniture and ample luxuries to make your stay everything you would hope for. It rained every day we were in Manzanita and yet we had a fantastic time cooking fresh local seafood and veges in the wonderfully supplied kitchen. I almost hate to tell you how great this rental is, because we will definitely stay there again when we travel to the west coast and I know that anyone who has stayed here will want to stay no where else. The competition for this home will be fierce!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, girls getaway.
Owner response: Our greatest wish is to make the Vicarage a place people will find like home. Whatever the season it is a place at which you can enjoy the beauty of the beach and cook up the provender of the land and sea. Thanks for sharing your joy in being there.

What a wonderful place to spend a few days. It's hard to pack up and leave. From the beautiful English garden to the many thoughtful details around the house, we enjoyed it all. Standing on the deck in total darkness, listening to the ocean is so peaceful and rejuvenating. The town is wonderful, the local food superb, and the cottage is just too adorable to stand.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The Vicarage is a lovely cottage tucked up a short walk to the beach. The garden is delightful and peaceful.. A wonderful place to sit and relax in. The cottage is very well taken care of and has a very nice layout. The kitchen is very well supplied for those who like to cook (a bbq outside too). The location is ideal if you don't want to be in the active tourist area, yet if you forgot a grocery or two for supper it is a short bike ride to the store. Nehalem St. Park is also in biking distance and worth a visit. The 3 wheel beach bikes (rented just off the beach in Manzanita) was a new and fun adventure for the whole family. I would recommend this to a friend or relative; I would be looking for this property the next time I head down the Oregon coast.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thanks, Kristin and Jonathan, we're so glad the Vicarage was the perfect place for your holiday. As avid cooks we especially love to share our kitchen and courtyard (as well as dining room and breakfast nook) with guests who enjoy making the Vicarage their home for a few days. Foodies: don't miss the Manzanita farmers' market every Friday in season -- a treasure trove of local bounty!

Our search for a vacation rental focused on three primary factors...the house, the nearby beach, and the town. After staying almost a month at The Vicarage, it was clear we had found the perfect combination to address our needs. The Vicarage was spotless, well appointed, bright, and offered quiet, relaxing space both indoors and out. I spent many pleasant hours reading outdoors and had the option of several different secluded garden areas with beautiful blooming plants, hummingbirds, and gentle breezes. Indoors, we found the house to be wonderfully warm and welcoming. Everything we needed, and more, was there upon our arrival. This clearly was a home rather than 'just' a rental property. The Manzanita beach is fabulous. We had stayed in Cannon Beach two years ago and found the beach, although beautiful, to be a bit crowded and busy. In Manzanita, we enjoyed seven miles of gorgeous shoreline that seemed almost private. And the town of Manzanita...small, quiet, and the perfect compliment for a relaxing vacation. We enjoyed the coffee shops, people-watching, and listening to the locals. We were delighted with our vacation and send our sincere appreciation to Paul and Mary.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was a joy to have Joy and Greg stay at the Vicarage. We appreciated their glowing words for our beloved beach home. We also appreciated their care for it while there. They were exemplary guests and we hope to have them return soon. Thanks, Joy and Greg and your three furry fly-ball friends. Paul and Mary

We just stayed at the Vicarage a few weeks back. The house was lovely, kitchen was well stocked (the knives were even sharp!), and the rooms were comfortable. Everything was well put together, we loved the stay and loved the house!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Paddy, As two former residents of Hawaii to another we wish you mahalo nui loa for your kind words. Late summer on Manzanita beach -- sun, surf, and gentle breezes -- is almost Hawaiian. Aloha, Paul and Mary

It was a pleasure to stay at The Vicarage! What a wonderfully warm and inviting home. This home is well cared for and the attn to detail of comforts was welcomed on a stormy wintery weekend. I don't think the pictures even do this house justice. Clean, quiet, comfortable! They also make it easy for you to keep the house as tidy and warm as you left it. There is also an unmistakable charm and character to the house that signifies that the owners have and continue to embrace many diverse cultures along their way. I would not hesitate in a minute to stay at The Vicarage again and look forward to sharing it with those that I know that want a unique coastal stay. Thanks Paul and Mary!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: The Vicarage has been a labor of love for us, decorated with mementos of our many travels. We're delighted, Mickey, that we can share it with you. Come back soon!

I have been visiting the OR coast now at least 6 times a year for the past 10 years, and this visit was one of the best. My brother and sister in law came to visit from PA and there were 2 places we had to take them to...Mt Ranier and the OR Coast. My sister in law is an avid gardener so when I saw the pictures of the Vicarage on line, I had a feeling this was the place to rent. I couldn't have been more right. The gardens, the and the deck are absolutely delightful. There is a peace and comfort that I have not experienced at all of the other places I have rented. The home is inviting and quaint to say the least. It is obvious that Paul and Mary take great pride and joy in their home. I feel very fortunate that I found this home and it was available for our family. I will definitely be returning. Thank you very much for sharing your home with us.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: We especially enjoy sharing our garden with guests. Even in the dead of winter there are signs of the wonders to be revealed. We are so glad Ellen and her family had a chance to share in its beauty at its height.

I had the opportunity to stay at "the vicarage" for almot a week in Aug 2011. I was familiar with the location of the cottage from previous visits to Manzanita but actually staying there was a real treat. I found it to be exceptionally clean with a very warm and cozy feeling. The bedrooms all had doors to the outer deck and/or courtyard area...nice for a summertime visit. The kitchen was sunny and inviting each morning and very, very nicely equipped. The ciurtyard and gardens were even better then the photos and each morning I was able to enjoy visits from the busy little hummingbirds on the daily rounds. The cottage is just a short walk to the beach and in a quiet and beautiful area of the Oregon Coast...the beach there is one of the prettiest there is. I would highly recommend this cottage as it is just the perfect getaway place and far surpasses the online photos...it is like staying in a home right out of the pages of a fairy tale!!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: A cancellation made Kay's dream of staying at the Vicarage come true, and she plans to return next year. We are now taking reservations for late fall and next spring and summer.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: We are Paul and Mary: an Episcopal priest (retired vicar of the church in Manzanita, hence 'The Vicarage') and a retired independent school teacher. For the past 12 years we have divided our time between 'The Vicarage' and our townhouse in Portland, both of which we share with our Smooth Fox Terrier Noelle. We love to travel and have made many trips to Europe for hiking, cross country skiing, and now for researching books we are writing. We also love to cook (and eat) and invite you to take full advantage of 'The Vicarage's' amply equipped gourmet kitchen, cozy breakfast nook, and country dining room.
Why the Owner Chose Manzanita:
We bought The Vicarage in 2000. After exploring many different communities on the North Oregon Coast we chose Manzanita for its understated elegance, its numerous working artists, its exquisite long beach stretching from Neahkahnie Mtn to the mouth the Nehalem River, and the many other beaches, parks and attractions in the area just waiting to be explored. We chose our house because, quite frankly, we fell in love with it, as we are sure you will too. Adding to it, making its garden, living in its unique charm has been a labor of love.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The Vicarage is located only a short walk to Manzanita beach in a tranquil and sunny location sheltered by imposing Neahkahnie Mtn. Manzanita village with its unique shops and restaurants is close by as are the antique shops of Nehalem and Wheeler and the ever-popular Cannon Beach. Manzanita also boasts an excellent 9-hole golf course. Nehalem Bay State Park with trails for hiking and biking is a gem, as is Oswald West State Park and Short Sands Beach only a short drive north. Climbing Neahkahnie Mtn is a challenging hike that rewards the intrepid with spectacular views. For us (and our children and grandchildren who are frequent visitors) it's the beach we believe is the most beautiful on the North Oregon Coast that continually draws us here. And, as dog lovers, we love it for being perhaps the most dog-friendly beach in Oregon. Just ask our terrier Noelle. She'll tell you, 'Let's go to the beach!'
