Do you need to get out of town and get-away from it all (job, phones, noise, traffic, people), but camping just isn't your thing?
Our newly constructed 600 square foot casita is just an hour southwest of Roswell, New Mexico. We can promise you little to no traffic (maybe 4 or 5 cars a day…if you're lucky), no cell phone service (unless you walk up to the top of the hill), and no TV with depressing news (there is a DVD and CD player if you want to bring your own music or some movies). There is an abundance of wide open spaces to hike or bicycle (horseback riding is available at $30.00 an hour/per person with a 2 hour minimum, by appointment only with Kim), loads of peace and quiet, and an occasional visit from the local wild life. Feast your eyes on the cattle and sheep grazing on the distant hillsides and savor the beautiful New Mexico skies that spread like a canopy over it all. The nights are spectacular as a blanket of stars unfolds, unhindered by intruding lights.
The warm and welcoming casita has a fully equipped kitchen plus a barbecue grill (charcoal or gas). Feeling adventurous? There's a campfire cooking area where you can grill a cowboy sized steak or toast a marshmallow! Just don't forget your food…it's a long drive to the grocery store (steaks or other available cuts of 'Chesser natural' beef or lamb are available for purchase)!
After a long day, the comfy queen-sized bed beckons and promises a restful nights sleep. The loft area has two twin beds, and the sofa turns into a queen sized bed to accommodate more guests. The casita has a full bath and a washer and dryer to meet your needs. Relax on the covered porch and enjoy the outdoor picnic table.
Biscuit and Gravy, our border collie and corgie will be here to greet you and will be happy to keep you company in case you get lonesome.
Chesser Ranch's Casita Retreat is the perfect couples or family retreat. Give us a call and reserve the casita for some well deserved time away!

I absolutely loved the Casita. It was absolutely as wonderful as it is described. It was so peaceful and relaxing that the Chesser's have a life long guest. Any time I need to get away from some R & R, away from the hustle and bustle of life, this is where you will find me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from the stress daily life for some quiet and relaxing time alone.....Heather J., New MexicoRecommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We started our Amtrak trip from Martinez, California; rented a small SUV in El Paso and headed for the Carlsbad Caverns. Once touring that area, we made a loop towards Roswell to spend a couple of days. The Casita at Chesser Ranch was everything we had hoped for and more!! Though our stay was only 2 nights, we were able to relax, re-group and refresh at this wonderful cattle ranch. We just hung out there; sat on the porch, played cards, read, ate, drank, watched cattle and horses (should have gone horseback riding-make a point to do that); visited a bit with the owners, Kim and Patricia and of course, Biscuit and Gravy and Sassy; their great dogs. Once we arrived we decided not to leave, as we had the comforts of home. We caught up on laundry (which was very much appreciated), purchased some fine "home grown" steaks to bbq and even shopped at their general mercantile in the guest bunk house next door. No other guests were there at that time, so we had the place to ourselves. Though we could see how exciting it would be during cattle drive time or with a group playing music around the campfire, it was still nice to experience during a slower time. The Casita itself is lovely. Patricia definitely has an eye in blending love of family in her decorating talent. Same goes with the bunk house; very warm and inviting. We would have loved to experience her cooking, but our stay did not include meals. Do make sure you stop and pick up supplies, in that case. Small suggestion for owners would be to include, at least coffee/tea and/or charge additional to have bacon/eggs/fruit or ? in frig for us to cook. We had purchased at the grocery store more than we used and left it at the Casita. We would have gladly paid extra for that service. We considered ourselves working "active" seniors who enjoy to organize our own trips. We are very pleased that we chose Chesser Ranch. We witnessed Kim and Patricia's love of family with their son and grandson, their devotion to their family heritage and their love of their land. Thank you for letting us visit and thank you VRBO, you once again came through for us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

What a wonderful spot for our overnight as we traveled toward Carlsbad Caverns! Our girls enjoyed the cozy loft and the master bed was quite comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we grilled out a tasty steak dinner and afterwards enjoyed sitting on the porch and relaxing as the stars came out. The ranch is a little oasis, with tiny toads, friendly dogs and cats for our labradors to meet, and beautiful song birds in the morning. Staying at the Casita Retreat truly was one of the highlights of our New Mexico trip.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Kim and Patricia were nothing short of amazing! The Casita was such a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Everyone on the ranch was friendly, accomodating and just a pleasure to be around. You will not find a better ranch in all of New Mexico...I was actually sad when we had to leave in the morning. We had contemplated staying the remainder of our vacation at the ranch but had other arrangements we had to go to, unfortunately. If you are looking for peace and quiet or wanting to horseback ride in some of the most beautiful scenery in the United States, book the Casita this instant! Thank you Kim and Patricia!!! We'll back back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved staying at the casita. It was a unique opportunity to stay on a ranch with horses, cattle and ranch dogs. The casita is very comfortable and clean. The porch is a great place to rest your feet after a day of site seeing. They do have a long "driveway" - 30 mins on a gravel road to get to the ranch. You are out of cell phone range and no TV which was wonderful. The night sky is beautiful...plan to stay up late at least one night to enjoy it. You can decide to just relax at the casita or go site seeing. We loved the Carlsbad Caverns and the Smokey the Bear museum. Roswell has lots of history...not just aliens as we discovered and the winery in town is well worth the stop. Patricia and Kim are very welcoming and are there to help with any questions. We would highly recommend a stay at the Chesser Ranch.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your positive comments! We enjoyed having you and seeing the stars through your amazing equipment. Please come again!

I recently stayed at the Chesser Ranch Casita which had very comfortable and clean accommodations. The casita at Chesser Ranch had all the charm I expected in a southwestern themed vacation cabin. We enjoyed all the comforts of home and were able to just kick back and relax and take everything in. We did a lot of old-fashioned "front porch sittin". It was clean and comfortable. The fully stocked kitchen suited us as it eliminated the pressure of having to "go out to eat" for every meal. I would recommend the casita to anyone who wants to "just get away from it all". It really is perfect for families or couples who want to slow down and re-connect with each other.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the positive review on the casita, Dennis. It really is a great place to get away and do some serious relaxing! It was so good to have you here, hurry back!

The rustic, yet refined furnishings, the natural atmosphere, and the unmatched hospitality of the Chesser's made this an incredible visit. We stayed at the Chesser Ranch Casita Retreat and LOVED every minute of it! The casita is beautifully decorated, yet still comfortable and homey. The bed was nice and firm - just the way we like it. Because the casita is located on the Chesser Ranch, it is the perfect place for a true weekend "retreat". No phones, nothing to break the peace and quiet of the ranch setting. I highly recommend the Chesser Ranch Casita Retreat for anyone looking to get away from it all...it would be perfect for a family too!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, people with disabilities, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for the favorable review. Chesser Ranch's Casita Retreat is located such that you have the peace and quiet of the country, but are a good distance for day trips to the various attractions of southeastern New Mexico. Come use the casita for your homebase and see New Mexcio!

Owner info
About the owner: Kim, is a lifelong cowboy from a long, family ranching tradition. He was born and raised on this ranch and not only has a love of this way of life but a greater love of people. His wife, Patricia, is also a native of New Mexico and has used her decorating talents and gifts making the casita a true haven of retreat.
Why the Owner Chose Roswell:
Kim has lived on this ranch his entire life and Patricia their entire marriage, since 1978. After diversifying the ranch in 2003 to a working guest ranch, there were many calls wanting to rent the guest house (people not wanting to stay in town or in a hotel. In 2010 they decided to build the 'casita' with a full kitchen for overnight, weeklong or monthly guests. Their first rental was a snowbird from Minnesota the entire month of January. She had beautiful 70 degree weather while she was here!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The simple, peaceful country life is what we live and enjoy and desire to share with others. Our beautiful New Mexico skies are the topic of conversations the world over. No intrusion of city lights, traffic, sirens, telephones, etc. just pure peacefulness. You will hear an occasional bawl of a cow and calf or ewe and lamb, birds singing and other nature sounds.
