This home and its property has the best setting along the Connecticut shoreline. The views are truly awe-inspiring. We rented this home as a temporary residence until we purchased a home in the area. We loved every moment of it. It is romantic, quiet, private and spacious. It has good separation between the two bedroom areas, which makes it perfect for two couples. It was just the two of us, but when we had guests, they were upstairs in a spacious area with beautiful views. The home has everything you need in a vacation home. The linens included high quality sheets, pillows, duvets, and towels. The kitchen was stocked with All Clad cookware and nice glassware. We loved the native stone fireplace and the four season sunroom which offered prime views of the Mystic River tides. The house enjoys its very own cove and a small private beach. The owners work very hard to maintain the home and offer great books, videos and original art inspired by the region. We were mesmerized each morning, day & evening by the views of the sea, but most of all by the indescribable sunsets. If you are fortunate to stay in this home, regardless of the weather conditions, you have indeed experienced one of the most spectacular settings on earth.Did you find this review helpful? We returned last night from this special property and town. What an amazing home and view! We were blown away when we arrived. The pictures are spot on, but at the same time dont do it justice. Driving up on the private gravel road really helps to melt the real world away and put you in vacation mode. The rooms were very spacious, clean and homey. The kitchen had everything you could have wanted and more! the sliding glass doors and windows in the sunroom allowed for a wonderful spot to gather and play cards, eat meals, and sit around and talk with our other guests, while looking out at the gorgeous bay area. We enjoyed the large television to watch our favorite new england sports games, and very much appreciated the use of the WiFi. If I had more reasons to be in Mystic each year, I'd rent this home again and again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

A very special place - spectacular setting in any weather, warm & generous welcome from owners, & excellent support from agent. We stayed as an extended family group of 4, aged 15 to 85. Everyone loved it. Living spaces are large & inviting (nooks for all), furniture and fittings are high quality, and the kitchen would make a chef beam. I could happily live in the sunroom, surrounded on 3 sides by water - it feels like a houseboat without the wobbles. Thank you for our sojourn in your beautiful home. Very highly recommended.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Warm summer day, kids combing the rocks, nets in hand, looking for crabs and minnows, fishing off the dock, kayaking in the harbor...no mention of video games. Believe it or not this can still happen, but it takes a place like this! There are many things to do and see in the area, but the house always beckoned us back. The kitchen was well stocked and ready to be used for just burgers or a local seafood feast. The media room has a computer and large screen TV, but I found myself sitting in front of the floor to ceiling window more often than not. The owners could not have been more accommodating. They were just a phone call away if we needed anything, and the property mgr. gave us some good tips too. What a great place. We look forward to capturing those summer days again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home in early August. The pictures on the web cannot begin to do it justice! The house is a combination of quiet elegance and peaceful comfort. From the sunroom to the theater room, and everything in between this house lacked for nothing. We were graced with exquisite wildlife from ospreys nesting feet away to egrets prowling the shore; green herons preening majestically on the pier to the comical seagulls vying for your attention. And probably the most poignant sight was the doe and fawn walking lazily through the grass and into the back yard--Gorgeous! And perhaps the most amazing moments were the ones spent watching the ever-changing hues of the evening sky as the sun set over the water. All in all this trip was amazing!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The minute you drive onto the property the views beckon and peace descends. The pictures online don't do this home justice. The interior is professionally and beautifully decorated in a way that surrounds you with warmth and a feeling that you are home. My FAVORITE spot was the sunroom that overlooks the water. I spent 90% of my time in this space. From sunrise watching the egrets to the spectacular sunsets, this home doesn't disappoint. Every need and is anticipated, there was nothing missing. I found myself wishing it was winter so I could sit under a blanket and enjoy the beautiful fireplace. I could see myself enjoying a crisp autumn day surrounded by spectacular color, and spring, I am sure would have it's own secrets to discover. This home should be on the top of anyone's list, whether it is summer, winter, spring or fall. There is so much to do.....or do nothing at all. This place is a photographers dream. The owners are wonderful. I loved, loved, loved every minute and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

When we arrived, the house was even more breath-taking than the pictures on the web. The privacy, sunsets, ample space, beautiful furniture and wonderful layout made this an ideal home for our two families. The location was perfect to make our way into downtown Mystic, the museum and the aquarium. The two minute ride to the gourmet market at the entrance to the island was a great plus. I shot picture after picture of the sunsets, the house itself and the continual parade of boats and still will only be satisfied with another trip back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Having spent a week in August at this lovely house, our only regret was that we hadn't aranged for a longer stay. The house is spacious, comfortable, and nicely furnished. The Masons Island setting is superb -- directly on the water with a very secluded feel, but only minutes away from beaches, restaurants, wineries, casinos, shopping and all of the other activities that the Mystic/Stonington area has to offer. And the sunsets from the sunroom or the dock are even more amazing than the pictures on this site suggest! The owners are very helpful, gracious and a pleasure to deal with. We look forward to returning for another enjoyable stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Just returned from a week at this fabulous home on Mason's Island. The layout was superb nicely designed floorplan - clearly set up for family entertainment. Everything we might have wanted from a kitchen was there - and more - fun dishes galore! All beds were comfortable - everyone slept well. The setting is peaceful and serene - birdwatching outstanding. Mystic and Stonington both have lots to offer for food and entertainment. Easy to get to downtown from house. Walking and biking on the island were great. Mother nature coopertated too! Owners were most gracious and accomodating. Listing description consistent with reality - wish there were more hide a beds or futons so additional guests could be accomodated on an occasional night. House is well maintained and was clean and neat when we arrived. Highly recommend this home for a relaxing family vacation. Really enjoyed the view right there! Would definitely rent again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

About the owner: My wife and I live out of state. We use the house when we can and eventually plan to retire here.
Why the Owner Chose Mystic:
My grandparents built this house in 1942 when there were only a few people on the Island. They were able to get an absolutely ideal location. I have been coming here since the 1950s. We have continually updated the house and have had it professionally decorated. We don't put very much away, so our guests will feel that they are in a real home, not a rental
