West Barnstable farmhouse description
Lovely, newly renovated, century old, Cape Cod Farmhouse, nestled in the Historic area of West Barnstable. The property is surrounded by cranberry bogs, conservation parks with marked walking trails and the Barnstable Great Marsh Wildlife Sancturary. Just one mile up the road you can catch the Cape Cod Central at the original depot for a romantic outing on the elegant Dinner Train or treat the entire family to the Narrated Scenic ride to the Cape Cod Canal and hear about the history of Olde Cape Cod. On your way to the depot be sure to get a picture of stately West Parish Church, oldest Congregational Church Meetinghouse still in use in the world today! If you arrive a little too early for your train there is a Luke's Love Boundless Playground right there. Also right there is The Old Village Store, which has been operating for over 140 years. They serve up awesome deli delights as well as all the things you forgot to bring from home. Even if you don't need anything--just go through the screen door, hear it slam and step back in time when life was much slower and gave one time to appreciate all that life has to offer. Over the railroad tracks and up about 50 yds. is Scenic Route 6A. This well-loved 'Old Kings Highway' is lined with antique shops, specialty shops, art galleries and restaurants galore as far as the road reaches in both directions. Of course there are the beaches. This home is just 3 miles from Sandy Neck Beach on Cape Cod Bay. There are beaches of every kind around the entire Cape: Nantucket Sound where the water is generally warmest; Atlantic Ocean, great for surfing of all kinds; Cape Cod Bay with miles of sand flats at low tide, fun to walk & explore for all ages. Then we have fresh water ponds & lakes of all sizes. Many of these locations have boat landings for easy access to let your boats in & haul it out. My favorite activity here on the Cape is Whale Watching. Do it now before the whales all disappear. You will be totally amazed to experience them close up. You can catch a boat just 5 miles down 6A at quintessential Barnstable Harbor. This lovely harbor also offers Deep Sea Fishing, waterfront dining at Mattacheese Wharf Restaurant, a fish market for fish and lobster as fresh as it gets, fish & chips outside on the deck and, of course, another beach,Millway Beach, which is accessible with a parking permit purchased ahead of time.
This warm, inviting home offers five bedrooms: two very large master bedrooms (King & Queen beds), one medium bedroom (Queen bed), one bedroom with twin beds and a Den/Library on the first floor with a Queen pullout sofa bed.. The four bedrooms on the second floor share one enormous full bath with shower/tub and two sinks. The second full bathroom is on the first floor, also with a shower/tub combo. And then there's the outside shower, my favorite. There is a fully equipped kitchen, dining room that seats up to 10 guests comfortably, living/family room, and a den/lirary. There is plenty of seating for a large gathering or several smaller, more intimate ones. The owner provides a washer/dryer, laundry detergent and a clothesline for your convenience.
There is free Basic Cable TV and WiFi throughout the house. Start your day with your morning coffee or tea on the large, wrap-around porch. There is plenty of seating: wicker chairs, vintage bouncing metal chairs, rocking chair and even a romantic swing and let yourself be serenaded by our local birds.
The enormous backyard has room for several cars and all your favorite toys; such as, trailers, boats, and RVs. The circular driveway allows for easy access & parking. A half-sized basketball court with two hoops provides hours of fun, but there is still plenty of room for barbequing, all kinds of yard games and lounging. All equipment and seating is provided. The house is surrounded by leafy trees that provide cooling shade in the hot, summer sun. The spacious backyard also provides plenty of area for your pets to enjoy, as the house is pet-friendly. There is a very large, shaded dog pen with 2 doghouses that you may use at your own risk.

About the owner: Hello Vacationers - I'd like to tell you a little (or a lot) about myself and my home. Although I grew up in N.J. I got Cape Cod sand in my shoes at a very young age. My family was fortunate enough to have a shared inheritance right on the beach. We drove hours (much to my father's chagrin) every summer of our entire lives to spend 2 glorious weeks on Cape Cod. I know you will fall in love with the Cape as well, if you're not already. I moved up here from NJ in 1976, got married in 1979 and bought this house in 1980 when I was pregnant with my first of 4 wonderful children. The house was in very poor cosmetic condition but we saw the potential for it to be a lovely, comforting home. We did major renovations over the years as we raised our children in this wonderful place. Unfortunately divorce came in 2000. However, thankfully, the kids and I were able to stay in our home. Now my youngest is a sophomore in college and so a new era begins here at 'Hydrangea Heaven'. Of course I don't need such a large home for just myself and a few pets. But I do want so much to try to keep the house in the family. Alas, 'Hydrangea Heaven' is born. Why 'Hydrangea Heaven' you might ask? Because Hydrangeas are my favorite flower and Heaven is a wonderful place to be. I hope if you visit you will feel the same. As this is my inaugural season I would like to offer a special price to all those interested in vacationing here. And if you do come, I would love your input on how to improve the accommodations and your forgiveness if I've neglected to provide anything to make your stay the best it can be. One more tidbit....the original part of the house will be 100 years old next year (2014). I hope to be here to throw a Centennial Birthday Celebration and I'm looking for ideas. If you plan to return next year and I use your suggestion(s) you will get a discount on your rental rates. Thanks for reading and I hope to meet you in person this summer. Blessings, Sookie
