My husband and I stayed in this lovely, spacious apartment for 9 days in March. It was one of the nicest apartments we have ever stayed in, and we travel a lot, opting for apartments whenever possible. First of all, the neighborhood is absolutely charming, full of an ever-growing number of excellent small restaurants as well as bakeries and Italian specialty stores that have been there forever...a foodie's paradise, with great shopping as well. (Try Lily, up towards the northern end of Court Street,) The old brownstones make for lovely streetscapes, and it's an easy walk over to Park Slope if you want to explore another picturesque neighborhood. The listing photos were very accurate, but the apartment was even better than we thought it would be...and we had high expectations! It was immaculately clean. Being on the third (top) floor meant that there were wonderful high ceilings which added to the sense of spaciousness, and we enjoyed the exercise going up and down We had guests one night who found the bedroom off the dining room very comfortable, and having two baths is a real luxury. The apartment is beautifully furnished and supremely comfortable; the modern, well-designed kitchen has top of the line appliances and is very well-equipped. We also appreciated the impressive library. The owner was a pleasure to deal with as well. Thank you, Megan!

We (two teenagers and their father) stayed here for a week and had a wonderful time seeing the sights of New York City, including ice skating on Central Park. We were very glad we based ourselves in this lovely apartment and not an anonymous hotel in Manhattan. Megan is a friendly and reliable host, the apartment is extremely comfortable and well equipped, the boys enjoyed the distant sight of the downtown Manhattan skyline from the roof, and the faint sound of the F train rattling by was perfectly atmospheric. Court Street is relaxed with some excellent restaurants, delis, shops, a park. We had fun watching a college basketball game one evening just up the road at St Frances College and eating cheesecake at Junior's Diner - classic Brooklyn. We'd love to go back one day.

Well worth the climb - both the listing location description and photos accurately portrayed the location as well as the appearance. The space was well designed with the kitchen, two baths and master closet having the appearance of a recent renovation done w quality materials throughout. I was also impressed and surprised with the quantity of bath linens and bath products that were available as well as plenty of heat - all of which were missing in our last VRBO stay in Carroll Gardens in early November2012. The property was definitely clean and well maintained. The owner was very informative and thorough regarding details that would make our stay there as well as in the area a positive experience. In addition, since our flight was scheduled for the afternoon after Blizzard Nemo, she made an extra attempt to arrive in the city ahead of the storm in order to be there for our arrival. Definitely would recommend this property to a friend or relative. Great restaurants in the immediate area to recommend: Buttermilk Channel, Prime Meats, Frankes plus the Court Street Grocer next door for coffee and breakfast. Actiivities for us revolve around art and music so would recommend the Brooklyn Museum, the Barclay Center (attended a concert there) plus you're in close proximity to the Metro for the Manhattan museums.

This apartment was truly the highlight of our trip to New York. Brother lives close by and we had three generations, with the youngest 6 years old. It felt like a European flat, luxurious, but unpretentious. It was a joy to wake up, drink coffee and to feel like we had to rush out of a small hotel room. The grocery stores and restaurants within the neighborhood were top notch. Megan was great to deal with and we will recommend everyone we know to stay here when visiting the city.

My wife and I and another couple spent 5 nights and days in this lovely patch of Brooklyn. The neighbourhood is easy-going and so friendly, with a mix of all people, families strolling with their kids, their dogs, and lots of warm greetings tween neighbours. The cafes and popular restaurants are of a high-quality and so much more affordable than Manhattan. After an uber-stimulating trip into that intensity, we instantly relaxed as we got back to Carroll Gardens, conveniently located a 20-minute ride from mid-town on the F-Train. What a great way to travel. Our fave early day spot was Le Petit Café which opens at 6am and fills with folks grabbing coffees or full meals. And what a beautiful main dining area. It's a fantasy courtyard fresh and full of natural light. Our 2 best dinner spots are within a few yards of the apartment. Buttermilk Channel, where on our first night we sat at the communal table with locals who made us feel instantly like best friends, was a highlight. It was a Tuesday and 'byob' night so we lugged in some great wine bought at a terrific wine store (Fat Cat wines) nearby and shared it with our tablemates. The food is exceptional. A lovely surprise was on our last night as about a block away we discovered Luna Rosso, a cozy place with wood-burning pizza ovens and feasted on lemon gnocchi, grilled veggies, eggplant parmigiana...and oh yeh...yummy pizza at the end. Our waiter, Andrea took over and ordered for us. Wow! Our timing in New York saw us just escaping on the last flights to Canada before Hurricane Sandy struck. Our landlady Megan is such a considerate person. She called us to suggest we should be aware of the pending storm which we are so grateful to her for. Okay, the apartment. It's up these steep, narrow stairs...but the climb is worth it. You enter a high-ceilinged home with lots of room, windows looking down on a charming streetscape and in the distance, some Manhattan skyline twinkling away. It's quite precious. The sounds of the burrough are perfect, laughter, few beeps, and occasionally the far-away sound of the F train rolling along. It's a De Niro movie atmosphere, a bit Woody Allen too. We felt very comfy indeed. It was perfect privacy separation for us two couples as the bedrooms are at opposite ends with a big communal area to lounge around. The kitchen is well-appointed and handsome though admit that it was just the fridge for beer and wine for us, as the streets beckoned for all our nourishment. It's apparent that

The neighborhood is a very nice place and perfect for a family ( great restaurants, grocer's shop and more...). Megan was very helpful and gave us lots of information about the area. It was not our first say in new york but it was the best! Highly recommended !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Court Street apt. Location is great. Easy walk to the subway, and great restaurants within walking distance. The apartment is lovely! Very spacious and modern, but charming! The dining/living room area is open with lots of space for relaxing after a big day in the city! We made frequent runs to the deli across the street, and Court Street Grocers downstairs has wonderful pastries and sandwiches. We look forward to staying here again! I also highly recommended you to our friends that live in Manhattan, with family in Oklahoma City. Thanks, Linda & family from Oklahoma

There are so many great features about this property, but the adage from the world of real estate that sums up this wonderful Carroll Gardens apartment -- it's location -- is its biggest selling point. You will be literally walking distance to some of Brooklyn's best restaurants, parks, cutest shops and subway to Manhattan. But you may not venture far from this apartment on Court St because everything you could possibly want or need is minutes away. The photos don't due justice to this spacious, charming home. The kitchen is well stocked with top of the line equipment and cookware. And, while you're relaxing after a day of sightseeing and great food, you can enjoy the funny and very enjoyable novels and short story of the apartment's owner. Speaking of Megan, we found her helpful and always reachable, but not intrusive. The only drawback for some could be the narrow staircase and three flights of stairs, but if you're able, this top-floor apartment is well worth the climb!

We spent five nights at the apartment in 90+degree weather and the a/c units were wonderful. The apartment is set up great for the six people we had staying together and we loved chilling out there every night. Beautiful kitchen and baths as well as very spacious living room area. The neighborhood is filled with wonderful restaurants and shops, and using the F train to get into the city was very quick and convenient. Next time we visit Carroll Gardens we will definitely book this apartment.

What a great place to stay if visiting New York, having previewed many apartments, liked the sound of this one and wasn't disappointed. It is in a perfect location and within easy travel distance of Manhatten, got a weekly subway/bus passwhich was invaluable with the local station nearby.Made getting around so easy and cheap. Also got the New York pass which saved us money over the week as gives you entry to 70 attractions. The apartment is spacious and has everything you need (even the hairdryer worked better than mine!)plenty of towels and a kitchen with all the pots and pans you could need, although we ate out every evening in the local restaurants of which there are plenty to choose from, apart from one night when we had a fantastic pizza the size of a somberero from a local takeaway. I felt at home the moment we arrived and Megan, who was there to meet us, is really friendly and helpful and even arranged a taxi pickup from the airport. I would highly recommend this property to friends and family and if I returned would definately stay there again.

          Owner info

          Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: I am a novelist and my husband Alex is a politician. He is a local boy, but I grew up all over Europe. My first language is actually French. I speak Spanish and Polish as well, and am willing to embarrass myself in Italian and German.

          Why the Owner Chose Brooklyn:
We bought the apartment because we fell in love with it and the neighborhood, and you will too. We only regret that we can't live in it right now as Alex was elected for a four year term in Southampton. Our loss, however, is your gain.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Carroll Gardens has a large French expat population which you will find reflected in the many local bistros. Overall, the neighborhood has a palpable European feeling, from the old Italian men hanging out outside the social club to the quirky boutiques and food shops on Court Street. Manhattan is only minutes away, but you may find, as I did, that everything you need is right here.
