The hand-scribed log home, Wildloon, is placed on a rock outcropping that overlooks eight-mile lake with miles of undeveloped shoreline; miles of canoeing, hiking, biking, and snowshoeing trails right outside your door. Wildloon is part of a true wilderness retreat that only has 2 cabins available for rent. You will have your own private dock, and access to miles of wilderness. It is located in Northern Minnesota a few miles west of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It is like having a cabin on your campsite in the wilderness. Read a book, work a puzzle, watch TV, or listen to your favorite CD while sitting in front of one of the two classic stone fireplaces. Perfect for a get-away weekend, family vacation, or a girls get-together.
Wildloon Log Home: The featured log home is Wildloon, a 2 bedroom luxury log home. Originally Wildloon was a 1920's hand-hewn log lodge, built in the Boundary waters. In 1993, it was strategically placed on a rock outcropping facing the lake surrounded by red and white pines. The view from the front porch is spectacular--a great place to have morning coffee, watch the hummingbirds, or enjoy a glass of wine with the sunset in the evening. While maintaining the natural character of the lodge, Wildloon has become your luxury vacation home. The unique gourmet kitchen includes many conveniences: microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, kitchen-aide mixer, electric griddle, and an antique style 6-burner gas stove. The gas grill out back is ready for your freshly caught walleye. The upstairs of this tri-level log home features a full bathroom and two bedrooms--one with a queen log bed, the other with a full log bed. The back stone porch includes a full-sized futon along with a second bath with shower. Sleeps 6

Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: Pete and Maggie have been vacationing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness since 1972. At first, just the two of us, then we were joined by our 2 sons, Pete and Dan; and now Paxton (in 2009) and Odin (in 2012), our grandsons. Maggie took care of Loon's Echo Wilderness Retreat in the summers. During the year she taught high school science in Illinois until 2010 when she retired. Pete continues to work for Morgan Stanley doing investments for his clients. They have build their dream home on the property and continue to enjoy sharing Wildloon with their guests.
Why the Owner Chose Ely: We first visited Loon's Echo Wilderness Retreat in 1998 when both our boys were in college. It was an empy nest fall trip that turned into an adventure of a lifetime. We found this piece of wilderness that reminded us of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. It is like having a cabin on your campsite in the Boundary Waters. Since Maggie retired in 2010, the Jungs built 'Sunset Ridge' where they stay while they rent out the Wildloon Log home. Come enjoy the quiet of the wilderness from the comfort of our log cabin.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin: Wildloon was originally built in 1920 in Ely. It was moved to our location overlooking the water in 1993. It is a great place to sit on the porch and watch the hummingbirds, hike in the woods, canoe to Table Rock Falls, fish, or relax in one of our screen houses. This is a true wilderness experience with all the comforts of home.
