My fishing buddy and I had a great week at the cabin. The cabins rustic charm and modern amenities were as good as advertised. We had some good days of fishing (particularly when the dam was not releasing). We hope to return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

we really enjoyed the time spent in the cabin. would really like to visit again during the summer to enjoy the river. My son caught a small rainbow trout and my son in law lost one because of the tie job his father in law did. My husband is planning on bring some of his "road" boys back to enjoy time off and fishing. thanks for the wonderful memoirs of this christmas.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This year was my second year staying at the Brown Trout Lodge. We plan on making this an annual thing. Each year I have brought a group of friends that have NO fly-fishing experience and the access to the river is so great. There is more than enough "private" river to find fish when the water is low or high. Even with a larger group the cabin is more than accommodating. Being able to catch a game on the flat screen TV cook the days catch in the kitchen is awesome! I would recommend this cabin to anyone, whether you just want to retreat from the hustle and bustle or are a seasoned fisherman.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We and our elderly greyhounds were there a week, Oct. 8-16, and I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE!!! The scenery out the windows at the rear of the house was BREATH TAKING!! The first thing I did each day was to open the blinds! The wrap-around deck ... again ... breathtaking! The grounds ... Breathtaking! .... The cabin and barn are historic and it is like a walk back in history. It was interesting to see the waters of the S. Holston River rise and fall (*Controlled by the TVA) daily, too. Sometimes, it was running full out, and other times, nice and shallow, just perfect to catch those trout! My husband caught some brown trout, and threw them back, but he caught them! Our elderly, arthrtic dogs loved walking on the soft, cool grass everyday. They, too, loved the wrap around porch, which we blocked off for them. We are moving to Bristol, shortly after the first of the year. I would love to live in this cabin, but the entire area is inviting and TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL!!! The weather! The mountains, the river, and NASCAR. I am not a real fan, but will learn :)) The owner is a true gentlemen who CARES ABOUT HIS RENTERS!! He rocks. If you want to quiet, relaxing get-away, and love to fish, GO, PEOPLE, GO TO THIS PLACE!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Perfect setting for our families. Kids had fun kayaking and tubing as well as fishing with the men. Jason caught twenty five fish. The women enjoyed just relaxing on the great wraparound porch. The cabin was great! We also enjoyed the activities in the surrounding area. We would recommend this cabin to any of our friends! One word-Amazing!Did you find this review helpful? We were looking for a half way spot between north Alabama and the east coast of Virginia to meet our son. This house met our needs and more. We found the house clean, adequately furnished, comfortable and appreciate that it is pet friendly. Although the guys didn't catch the first fish, they sure had a good time trying. Any shopping needs can be found within a 20 minute drive. What a perfect place in many ways! .Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners.

We had a wonderful weekend here. The weather was perfect, the cabin was perfect and the river was perfect. The water in the river will rise very very quickly, be very careful and check the times at the website provided on the site about the cabin. This is a place I will be returning to. Thanks so muchRecommended for: Pet owners

A private, rustic experience with all the modern amenities you'll need for a great weekend outing or fishing trip. Beautiful setting and convenient to fishing both the Holston and Watauga. Being able to take drift boat or raft out at the property is a huge benefit to the float fishing experience with limited private/public access elsewhere along the river and the water in front of the property has great wade fishing. Highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

What a great, relaxing weekend I had with my girlfriends. Never slept better. Cabin was fully furnished and equiped with everything we needed. We cooked breakfast, lunch and supper each day. Never left the property...and what beautiful property!! There's just something about watching the river (day and night) that calms the soul. We watched movies all weekend long, built a fire in the firepit at night by the rolling river, and sat on the riverside during the day while losing ourselves in a good book. The one large bathroom was more than efficient to accomodate 5 women. Look forward to spending a "couples" weekend with our guys...soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin was clean and well stocked, but we were unable to complete our stay due to electrical problems. The main breaker had to be reset numerous times and it was located in a cellar-type room below the cabin. Also, the stairs leading to the loft rooms were narrow and there was no rail. I do not recommend this for a family with children. The river is awesome and I am sure the cabin will accommodate fishermen quite well.Recommended for: Adventure seekers

Exactly what you would expect! The pics, description, etc., are accurate. If a direct river front cabin is what you want, then stay here. We had 4 adults & 3 kids and it was perfect. Plenty of space, updated kitchen w/real dishes/utensils/pans, convenient washer/dryer, awesome flat screen with lots of cable channels for end of night with the kids, porch w/swing facing the most incredible river front, and the best trout fishing ever. The boys caught so much trout we had a Friday fish fry before we left! The house & property have everything you need but shopping is only 10 minutes away. The lake & marinas are only 5 minutes away. We will definitely come here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This fishing, the cabin, the land- everything is perfect. We were able to wade for two solid days from the cabin, never fishing the same hole twice. On the third day, we put our drift boat in at the dam, and took out at the cabin after 7 hours of unbelievable fishing. I stayed for three nights in late April, and can not wait to get back. Our first trip was myself and three fishing buddies. I felt like I had traveled to Montana or Colorado, the mount views, the pristine water and perfect weather, all made for an unforgettable experience. We can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
