St Johns River Front Home Huge Deck, Dock & Boathouse & Wifi

Come experience a different part of Florida from the very large deck of this great river house. Bring your boat, fishing poles, the kids, and grandma. You will enjoy the large dock, complete with covered boat house, running water, fish cleaning station, lights, and floating dock perfectly suited for floats and swimming. This house has an open floor plan with split bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms open to the covered deck and have views of the river. The deck and dock are great spots for watching the boats go by. The river is 310 miles long and occasionally will host smaller cruise ships bringing their passengers to tour the scenic and historic St Johns River. This was a popular destination during the Gilded Age. The vacation this home makes possible should not be considered 'luxurious' but instead enjoyed as a return to nature.
This home is clean and spacious with fantastic views and is located very close to the boat ramp, grocery and drug stores and restaurants. You will feel very secluded but can still walk to the market. Wild turkeys, alligators, and fish are very common. Manatees, otters and other wildlife are often seen in and around the river. We have provided 2 kayaks and paddles. You will find an assortment of life and ski vest as well as several floats for your enjoyment. You will need to bring most other fishing and boating items with you.
We have a large dining room table in the 'River Room' which can easily seat 8, with views through the 5 sliding glass doors. Located off the kitchen is a breakfast table that can seat 6.
Palatka is known as the' Bass Capital of the World'. The fishing is great and shrimping is possible in August and September.
This home has been our family retreat for over 15 years. We have decided to share our home with others starting in late May 2011. It is located only 30 miles from St. Augustine and the St. Johns County beaches. We hope you enjoy your stay in our River House.

BEFORE WE LEFT FOR VACATION AT THE CABIN I CALLED THE OWNER SEVERAL TIMES. I KNOW I CALLED TO ASK SEVERAL QUESTIONS LIKE ABOUT THE GRILL, FISHING, KEYS, DIRECTIONS AND EVERYTIME I TALKED TOTHE OWNER, HE WAS VERY UNDERSTANDING. HE WAS VERY EASY TO TALK WITH AND HE GAVE ALL THE ANSWERS TO EVERY QUESTION. THE CABIN WAS VERY LARGE AND VERY ROOMY, WE HAD SEVEN PEOPLE AND THERE WAS PLEANTY OF ROOM. \ VERY BEAUTIFUL CABIN WITH VERY NICE VIEWS. WE WERE UP EARLY EVERY MORNING SITTING ON THE EXTRA LARGE DECKS JUST WATCHING ALL THE FISHERMAN GET UP BEFORE DAYBREAK AND TRY TO CATCH FISH. THE ENTIRE WEEK WAS VERY RELAXING AND EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME. WE ARE NOW LOOKING FORWARD TO A RETURN TRIP IN THE NEAR FUTURE. WE JUST CANT SAY ENOUGHT ABOUT THE LOCATION. YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE IT ON YOUR OWN.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: It sounds like you enjoyed the river house as much as we do. We spend most of our time on the deck also. Thank you for the great review. Libby and David

We had a good time at your river house. Very clean and comfortable stay. Didnt catch alot of bass on the St.Johns, but did take our boat to Rodman Lake and catch several. My fishing Buddy and both our families stayed, 7 total. Never felt crowded at any time. My 17 year old daughter did catch a 20.01 pound cat fish off the dock one evening. I would recommend this house. It is just as the add describes. The only reason Ididnt put my stay as excellent, is not being able to keep my boat in the Boathouse out of the weather. The owner keeps his boat there. Cant blame him for that, If it were mine, I would do the same thing. We did see several gators, 2 manatee, bald eagles and heard turkeys gobble while fishing on the St. Johns. In the yard at the house, turkeys in the day and racoons at night. So be careful where you leave your trash, the racoons will scatter it for you, in a 50 yard circle for you to pick up again.Shopping and beach 30 minutes for the girls and fishing for the guys. My opinion is this would be a great gettaway for anyone, with kids of any age. Thank you.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are glad you and your family enjoyed our river house. I wish we could offer our boathouse but the lift is custom made for our boat. Hopefully we will find a way to keep the raccoons out of the trash. Thank you. Libby and David

A beautiful, spacious home with a spectacular view of the ST. Johns River. Being birders, we spent many hours behind our binoculars watching great numbers of water birds and the resident wild turkeys. The house was clean and well kept and the furniture very comfortable. The cable service was an upgrade from basic. A full size desk with router, fax, and wifi was perfect for a working vacation. The kitchen was large and well equipt. The owner was caring and responsive. All in all, our six weeks was enjoyable and relaxing with all the enmities of home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed the birds and the resident turkeys as much as we do. Many times when David would be there without me, he would call and give me a "turkey count". One day I watched a gator and a buzzard have a stand off over a dead fish. I hope you got to see some manatees also. Thank you for the great review. Hope you get to come back. Libby

We were fortunate enough to spend a week in the river house. The house was exactly as advertised and we felt at home as soon as we stepped foot in the front door. I loved fishing on the boat dock and the sunsets were unbelieveable!. We were greeted everyday by several turkeys and the birds on the river were so relaxing to watch. It was fun to explore Palatka and were only minutes from golf, shopping, and historic St. Augustine. Thanks Dave and Libby for a wonderful relaxing week. We definately will be back and will tell our friends about your vacation home.. TRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for great review. We love watching the turkeys. When we don't see them when we are there, we worry about them but they always come back. We hope you can come back soon. Libby and David

Our family came to Florida for a wedding from S Carolina. We found this great home on the St. Johns River. We enjoyed the river, caught shrimp from the dock, watched the wildlife each morning as we relaxed on the covered deck with our coffee. The owners were the best, we have vacationed many places this has to be our favorite. Just a short drive to St. Augustine and the beaches. We highly recommend this home, very clean, comfortable , and location was perfect.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and caught lots of shrimp off of the dock. Hopefully you will be back soon and can enjoy the wildlife again. Libby and David

We used to own a home in Ocala and would travel to the St. John's River in Palatka during the shrimp run. We missed that so we sought out a place to stay and try our luck. We found this beautiful home right on the river. We found the locale serene and we didn't even need to take the boat out to shrimp unless we wanted to ride. We caught our limit right on the dock on the incoming tides. As for the home? Very nice, clean and well stocked with linens and furniture. We felt at home and could relax as we should during a vacation. I look forward to staying here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad you had a good time and caught lots of shrimp. Thank you for the great review. Looking forward to your return. Libby and David

Very relaxing time spent mostly in the screen porch or on the dock. Full time bird action Ospreys and Eagle tussels. Gaters and turtles sunning themselves on the driftwood. Nice day trip around the watershed to Salt springs and down to Volusia area. St Augustine is close for a beach trip. Nice Italian food in Palatka "Viva". Golfers go North to Fleming Island.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

About the owner: My wife and I have lived in St. Augustine since 1981. We have always enjoyed traveling, and have made many friends along the way. Our two children are now off to school, which leaves us more time to enjoy our favorite activities.
Why the Owner Chose Palatka:
We bought this property because we love the river. It was close to everything but it is very private.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We bought this river home in 1996 when our kids were very young and spent many weekends and a large portion of the summers and holidays here. This house is so perfect for casual entertaining.
