Highlands house description
Accommodations: Main House + Guest House, 5 Bedrooms Total (1 King, 1 Queen, 1 Full, 2 sets of Twin Beds, 1 Sofa Bed), 5 Full Baths, 1 Half Bath (Sleeps 10-12)
Enjoy spectacular 180 degree views - the “Buena Vista” - of Blue Valley to the south and the looming, intricate rock face of Satulah Mountain to the north, or walk the short trail on this 2 acre property to the top of the private, 100 foot waterfall. The spacious and tastefully decorated main house has 3 bedrooms, 3 full baths and 1 half bath and the charming guest house has another 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Not one, but three Great Rooms with native stone hearths, in addition to a separate study with fax machine, a cozy screened porch and several hundred square feet of decks make this home ideal for large groups such as weddings, reunions or corporate retreats, yet cozy enough for more intimate gatherings in any season.
The house was totally renovated in 2005 and features heart pine floors, comfortable furnishings and original artwork throughout. Cook for 2 or 20 in the fully equiped and well stocked, gourmet kitchen using the 6 burner gas range, double ovens, warming drawer, microwave and the Dacor outdoor gas grill. Also featured are custom cabinets, granite counters, a copper farm sink, dishwasher, Subzero refrigerator and wine cooler. A second refrigerator and ice maker located in the main level mud room/laundry make entertaining a pleasure.
The kitchen also has a breakfast bar with extra seating and is open to a casual dining room, which comfortably seats 10 or more, and a fireside den complete with 50" plasma TV, surround sound, Crestron remote, blue ray, satellite, cable and wifi internet. Vaulted ceilings, painted wood paneling and rustic beams define the spaces and give the roomy, open living and dining areas warmth, while french doors and floor length windows invite views and natural light.
Another large living room, located a few steps away has cathedral ceilings, another wood burning, stone fireplace, massive windows and 4 sets of French doors leading to the wrap around deck. There you will find additional, comfortable seating to enjoy breathtaking views while listening to the soothing sound of the waterfall in the background. A luxurious upper level master suite has its own private, furnished deck with arguably the most spectacular views on the property.
Though you may never want or need to leave the property, it is conveniently located within minutes of the quaint town of Highlands with temptations such as the Ugly Dog Pub, the Day Spa at the Olde Edwards Inn, the Bascom Arts Center, high end shopping, antiquing and numerous gourmet restaurants and eateries with unparalleled wine selections such as Paoletti’s and the Wild Thyme Café. The town is also home to some of the loveliest, most charming churches you will find anywhere. Hiking trails with mountain streams, lakes and waterfalls, whitewater rafting, fishing, biking, horseback riding, as well as world class golf courses are all available nearby. Highlands is only a little more than 2 hours from Atlanta and consistently 10 to 15 degrees cooler. Gardens are lush and plentiful in spring and summer and the fall foliage is unsurpassed.

Perfect Family Wedding Weekend
Perfect Family Wedding Weekend
We stayed in this lovely home for a family wedding weekend and it was perfect. There were ten in our group including married children and teenage and college age grandchildren. The master suite is very private and the views are spectacular. The large dining table accommodated us well for meals together and the numerous seating areas and decks were great for gatherings. The kitchen is well equipped and the double coffee pot is a bonus for large groups. The guest house is very cozy and includes a nice living room and full kitchen. The trails and waterfall on the property are nice amenities. The proximity to town and the shortcut through Highlands Plaza made for quick and easy access to all the wedding activities. If you are looking for a great family or couples get away home - this is it!

I'm staying here with my partner's family for a wedding. The is house is way beyond my expectations. The furniture is incredibly comfortable, and attractive. I feel very at home. The media center and all the TVs are perfect. I love the numerous outdoor balconies, and the multiple living areas. We have 10 people staying and there is PLENTY of room. Also, one of my most favorite aspects is the gorgeous, and very peaceful yard and waterfall. The landscaping is beautiful. I would love to bring my family here as soon as possible! I know they will love it too.

We rented this house as a base camp for a long weekend reunion with our dear friends. The main goal of our weekend was to enjoy the high country outdoors during the leaf viewing season. We expected a beautiful fall weekend, but we did not expect such a fabulous house. As advertised, the views were beautiful, and the patios granted huge views of the mountains while relaxing in the sun. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable in the main house, and cozy and charming in the guest house where my wife and I slept. The kitchen was extremely well-designed and well stocked. However, I think that my favorite "features" of the house were the numerous sitting areas which allowed our group to have private and intimate visiting in pairs and trios, as well as plenty of space for the whole gang (8 of us) to spend time together. These common areas were just fantastic, with all the creature comforts, interesting design, and even more unforgettable views. We even had a full arc rainbow to enjoy within thirty minutes of our arrival.

Our group of 8 stayed Oct 22-25, 2011. The house is very well furnished with large gathering areas that permits everyone to be together comfortably. The views from the decks are spectacular. The kitchen offers everything you might want to prepare dinner for a large group. The guest house, with two twin beds and one double allows you to divide your group comfortably. The house is close enough to Highlands to be convenient while still far enough away to provide a sense of solitude. Groceries, dining and shopping are all within a 5 minute drive of the house. The owner is easy to contact and resolved the only problem we had within a few hours. The walk through upon arrival helps a great deal due to the size of the home. The entertainment system is very nice and reasonably user friendly. I have no problem recommending this home to any group large enough to utilize all its amenities. An ideal place to set out from to explore Highlands and the surrounding North Carolina Mountains and waterfalls.

Owner response: Bill Thank you so much for your highly complimentary review. Though I have had other renters offer to write a review after their stay, you are the only one to do so. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your prompt follow-up. I am meeting with my caretaker tomorrow to review your comments. Charlie

Why the Owner Chose Highlands:
My family has had a place at Lake Burton in North GA as long as I can remember. We had many happy times and cherish wonderful memories of those days. However, as the lake became more crowded and my children grew up, married and had children of their own, I decided to sell the lake property and find a peaceful retreat with plenty of diverse activities for all ages and interests that would accommodate our growing family for frequent visits. It seemed a shame for the big house and the guest cottage to sit empty inbetween visits with family and friends. Several friends have had great experiences renting second homes through VRBO so I thought I would give it a try.
