Welcome to Seahorse Cottage/Seamonkey's Island Oasis, located on the 7 by 1/2 mile barrier island, Don Pedro, which is halfway between Fort Myers and Sarasota, Florida. We were not impacted by the hurricanes.
This is truly a unique getaway island. No road connects the island to the mainland, so you have the adventure of taking the ten-minute car ferry from the mainland to the island. You also have the peace and quiet afforded by being separated from mainland traffic and development. The ferry runs constantly from about 6:00 AM until 9:00 PM (later on weekends). The only paved road on the island is the one leading from the ferry landing going to the northern end of the island where there is a resort (the only commercial establishment on the island). All other roads are sand. There are no street lights on the island, so you can really see the stars at night. If you want to see the stars and hear the ocean, this is the place for you!
Seahorse Cottage/SeaMonley's island Oasis is on Bocilla Lagoon, a stone's throw from the Gulf of Mexico. You have breathtaking views of the lagoon and Gulf sunsets from the 32-foot long lanai. Seven miles of pristine white sandy beach are only a 5-minute stroll away. Dolphine and Osprey are common sights you'll see as you walk the beaches and swim in the clear gulf waters. But you won't see many people. You can fish right from your own private boat dock, or take your own/rented boat from the dock to the Intercoastal waterway and on out to the gulf or the flats for some of the best fishing in the world.
Seahorse Cottage/Seamonkey's Island Oasis itself is a fantastic island home in the old Florida tradition. Just two years old, this three bedroom, three bath, single-family home set on 18-foot high pilings offers cathedral ceilings, gourmet kitchen, great room with fireplace opening out to your large screened lanai. Drop-down deck with heated jacuzzi, swimming pool and a western exposure creates the perfect setting for sunset and later under the stars. Beautifully furnished in a very contemporary, yet eclectic fashion, this pristine home creates such a comfortable haven to enjoy our little island. |
