What a great house! Great street, just around the corner from bustling Mississippi. Great coffee just around the corner. House was bright, light, cool & breezy. All the comforts of home and better. A real treat. Anjali is a fabulous host and thought of everything to make my stay better. And she was always there by text to answer my craziest question

We had a wonderful time staying here. If you aren't familiar with the neighborhood, or haven't seen it in a while, you are in for many surprises. There's so much to do that we spent many hours just cruising up and down the street. Great eats and shops, plus super-fast access to anywhere in the city. Anjali's place is perfectly situated and delightfully homey. This was our first online booking experience, and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction. The accommodations are just as billed, and perfect for the traveler who doesn't want a sterile hotel, but also doesn't want to feel like they are surfing someone's couch. Anjali was attentive whenever we needed something, but the layout also offers plenty of privacy so you don't feel like you're intruding on her home or the other guests. I looked at many, many places before choosing this one. Save your time -- this was the perfect choice!

I highly recommend Mississippi Fun District Garden if you are looking for a relaxing weekend in a great neighborhood. Definitely the best area and close to all shops, bars, restaurants, etc. Access to other parts of town were also easy. We were three friends staying at Anjali's place and the space was perfect for our easy breezy weekend. The garden is amazing! Anjali is a gracious host, very friendly and easy going. Can't wait to be back

Owner response: Yes, our garden bursts with herbs and veggies to eat! All year around there are eats, beats and treats right around the corner. And it's super easy to get around by walking, bike, bus, rail or freeway.

We had a great time at Anjali's place! The home is adorable and slept the four of us very comfortably. The vegetable garden and chicken coop out back gave it urban farm feel. Anjali left us with some fresh eggs and tomatoes for our stay. The place is truly right off Mississippi, right in the middle of all the best restaurants and shops and desserts -- couldn't have asked for better!

Arrived March 2 2012 This is the second year we celebrated my birthday here. We stayed nearly a month. We thoroughly appreciate Anjali's hospitality and friendliness. The place is just right for us. Clean. Comfy. Cozy. Anjali is gracious, communicative and makes it easy to visit great places while in Portland with the info she provided us. She does what it takes to make our stay so great! It's so easy to get around to explore other spots. We took public transport wherever we went. Bus is down the block on Mississippi Av. The Max light-rail and the freeway are just a couple blocks away. The entire property is also another great feature. For example, Anjali is share-cropping her garden. A portion of the produce goes to feed the homeless. A couple gardeners gave me a few tips that I am going to try in my own garden at home! There's an art studio and a sun room on the back deck where Anjali spends most of her time. There's also a chicken coop that's waiting for the next flock of chickens. It has a feel of an urban farm right in the middle of it all! Next time we come, we're having a small family reunion. My mom, dad and little brother will stay in the other portion of the duplex. And we'll take over the whole place!

I often roll into Portland on business. That said, convenience is important to me. I usually stay at hotels, however this time I thought I'd stayed here. Getting to my meetings all around town was a snap. Simply jumped on the freeway or took the light rail tinto downtown. Mississippi is a great place to stay with great variety of eateries, places to listen to great music and other businesses to check out! It is everything the listing describes and photos portray. It's *Convenient to work and play *Clean *Comfortable and Cozy *Congenial and helpful hosts There are no hotels in the area. This has all the comforts of home and a location I want to be. Next time I'm in Portland, I'm staying here and I'm bringing my wife. She loves this kind of stuff!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Yes, this is a very convenient location for business travelers. There are many yummy eateries, lounges, shopping, yoga, and music right around the corner! It's a snap to get just about anywhere else, too! 1.4 miles from Adidas Headquarters, 1.1 miles from Emanuel Hospital and 2.5 miles from downtown. Jump on light-rail, bus, bike, car or walk and enjoy!

We love staying here so close to Mississippi, yet still our private little get away. This is our second stay here. Anjali is an amazing hostess! She visited us the morning after our late evening arrival. Chelsea, our little girl, and Chuck our new little puppy crawled all over her while she told us of great places to have breakfast out. She provided us with coffee she roasted herself. She got the coffee beans from Mr. Green Bean on Mississippi Av, around the corner. If you like coffee, make a visit. They also have domestic arts classes, like how to make cheese, etc. The apartment is great!. The pillow-top Queen bed is super comfy with a cool Shaker antique frame, the dining room table is mid-century maple and the foldout sofa Mission style; with a toughtful selection of lamps and art. The flooring is concrete and is wonderfully finished with sprays of gold and copper mixed in with the natural existing blues and greens. Everything was clean and fresh! Hmmm..sorry for Anjali to have an unhappy guest. Ms Montana stayed at the wrong place for her and didn’t appreciate refund policy. If you leave early, you don’t’ get refund on the remaining days. Simple. I hope that if the area is what you want, in the price range you are looking for, you give Anjali a call. Talk to her. Reliable. Consistent. She will visit you in person, text or email info that you need! She is a friend to many. She is a very big reason why we come back. And will again soon!

We stayed here after Christmas. Originally we booked a different rental, but a bad furnace forced the owner to find an alternative for us; she will not recommend this place again. We were scheduled for a week and left after the 2nd night. We might have felt differently if the cost of the unit were $80; at least we might have said that you get what you pay for. This apt. had concrete floors, 2nd hand furnishings and a broken t.v. The kitchen is small with outdated appliances. We love to cook but we would not do so here. The 2nd morning I swept thinking we had brought some dirt in with our shoes and found rice and food particles that obviously didn't belong to us. The sheets had hair on them; the pillow smelled like bedhead; the bedding was cheap and worn; we could not move on the bed with out it squeaking and shaking. The bathroom was appalling. Again, if we were paying $80 we would still think it was bad, but we would have changed our expectations. The linoleum is warping and old; the caulking is moldy and has not been cleaned; the shower unit is very old; the shag shower mats had not been washed for us; there was a used bar of soap in the shower. Because this is a basement apt. we heard everything the owner was doing. There was a very bad odor being pumped into our unit all night. There is a private entrance w/ it's own gate giving you the feeling it is private, but we returned one night to an unknown man leaving out of our gate! That was the last straw. It was unsafe to have a child there. We have stayed at many VRBOs around the world and have never had a bad experience. This time we lost. Every place we have stayed has felt autonomous. We have never had to interact with the owner beyond payment and email. This owner is more comfortable calling, texting and emailing often; she even stopped by the first morning. I feel that she believes in what she is offering. I wanted to be very delicate about letting her know that we were not happy there and we would like to leave. She was unwilling to negotiate or refund. I don't believe in being a jerk to get what I want, but maybe that would have worked with her. We left early, and she kept our money (we did receive our deposit in full). There are so many good VRBO units. This is not one. The Benson had a better rate and accepts dogs. Mississippi is a cool street, but the area surrounding, including this unit, is not your best option in Portland. Stay elsewhere and cab over.

Owner response: 10-05-12 updated at vrb site. Shortened. Added that Dear Future Guests, I love hosting and most guests love my place, its location and what I offer. I like helping guests make the most of their stay here! It saddens me that this guest had such an awful time. I have lived here since 1994 and rented out this garden apartment since 1996. Many who have stayed here are now my friends. After each guest departs, we run a thorough cleaning. Linens are replaced every 6 months. Most recently, we refurbished and newly furnished this apartment. Furnishings and antiques were thoughtfully chosen with the help of friends who are also successful VRBO hosts. We make sure everything is working order before next guests arrive. As advertised there is no cable and we have a 1 bedroom. Our place was presented as advertised. And when guests have requests, questions or issues, I will solve it, if possible. We don't give refunds if guest wants a 2 bedroom when we advertise as a 1 bedroom, for example. And left undamaged we promptly refund security deposits in full. And though there was damage, this guest received full security refund. Mississippi Av overflows with great eats, treats and beats and there's easy access to just about anywhere. It is not for everyone. Some people prefer downtown while others prefer a remote retreat. Please read all our reviews. And if you have any questions, give us a jingle. Warm regards, Anjali

Anjali's garden flat was perfect for my stay with my husband and best friend. Her home was cozy and perfectly comfortable, and the three of us were literally around the corner from Mississippi strip to thoroughly enjoy the excellent eateries and bars plus some sweet shopping finds. Plus, we easily took the max/bus wherever our adventures led us (mostly to the Pearl District downtown and the Japanese Gardens). I should also add that Anjali is very welcoming and communicative, happily offering up great sites to visit while in town as well as doing whatever was necessary to make our stay absolutely easy and memorable. We intend to be back and are all happy to know a great place to stay!

We stayed for two weeks and loved our time there -- it's on a nice street in a safe neighborhood with restaurants, bars and coffee shops aplenty a short walk away. Very bike-able too. The basement apartment was comfy, clean, warm, nicely decorated, and met our expectations in every way that I can think of, and Anjali was both welcoming and professional.

This was a great place to stay in the Mississippi District -- roomy, yet cozy & comfortable, and what a fun location!! There's also a lovely backyard garden to sit in and enjoy our morning coffee. We could walk out to all kinds of fun shops, restaurants, cool bars, and hear great music at the Mississippi Studios. It was great to have the light rail station just a few blocks away, so we could ride it downtown or to the airport. Anjali our host was wonderful! She gave us great neighborhood tips, and made sure we had everything we needed for a fantastic stay.

Our stay at Mississippi Destination was fantastique! It was was one all too short month. Sub-terra garden apartment (fancy way of saying basement apartment) definitely was sun-kissed. We loved how cozy it was while outside lots going on up & down Mississippi Avenue. So much to see and do! And it's easy to get anywhere else. My boyfriend and I are foodies. We were invited to harvest from garden and also bring back delicacies from Pastaworks, Mr.Green beans. We roasted our own coffee. We walked over the pedestrian bridge to the Overlook Farmer's Market and got some tasty local cheeses. Had time figuring out which one we liked the best! The apartment is well appointed and clearly owner, Anjali, put well-placed attention to furnishings, appliances, art and other appointments. Too she helped us get oriented to activities and events. And when we just wanted to hang out, in addition to the comfort of the apartment with seating area. We had a BBQ one sunny day and listened to live music that was playing outdoors at Mississippi Studios; our own private concert! With all the bustle going on the next street over, Mississippi, you would never know it in the apartment! It made a great place to chill out. We are coming back here next time! And I think my parents would like it too! Again, thank you ,Anjali, for making our stay wonderful!

Owner response: Brooks, thank you for your thoughtful review. Your mother called the other day. If they come for August., they'll take in LES MISÉRABLES and MAMMA MIA! During the day, she'll go on hikes in the Gorge and do some fun shopping while your dad writes and re-writes his current manuscipt! Enjoy! Anjali

This is a lovely spot. It's quiet and beautiful with a great garden, and literally a block off of Mississippi- ridiculously close to brunch, drinks, live music, great shops, yoga....the list goes on! This is one of the BEST Portland neighborhoods! The owner is attentive, friendly, and responsible, but you're totally private in your own space. I highly recommend a little BBQ or outdoor brunch while you're here. The kitchen is small but absolutely user-friendly; I love to cook and bake and made some great cakes, desserts, soups, and roasts while I was here. One of the best things about the apartment is that it's cool and lovely in summer, and especially quiet at night- even though you are SO close to the hoppin' Mississippi scene! Things to do: Try Por Que No (excellent Mexican), Mee Sen (creative Thai), the amazing foods carts up the street, and burn it off at Hot Yoga for Life just a couple blocks away! Check out what's happening at Mississippi Studios and get drinks at Casa Naranja's awesome outdoor lounge area.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Owner response: Yes, easy to get around without a car since buses are around the corner & light-rail a skip over the pedestrian bridge! And if you want to go to the Gorge, jump in your (Zip) car and hit 84E!
