Outdoors is very relaxing with almost 1000 square feet of deck surrounding the cabin. Much of that deck faces the lake which lets the adults sit in the sun reading or sipping a cocktail while keeping an eye on the kids in the water. Or relax in the hot tub in the outdoors.
We created a nice sandy beach area for the kids to play on, plus the lake has a sand bottom with an occasional rock. It gradually gets deeper with it only about 4 feet by the end of the dock.
This cabin is on Big Pine Lake which is between Mille Lacs and Farm Island Lake. It faces South on the wide part of the lake so you get a view of everything. If you like to fish, you can catch pan-fish and bass right off the dock using just a night crawler and bobber. Otherwise, about 50 yards out is one of the best walleye holes in the lake. The public landing is across the lake.

The property handled our family of 18 very well. The grandkids had excellent fishing for pan fish off the dock. The Lake is a nice clean lake. All the water inflatables and paddle boat provided hours of swimming fun. The large grassy yard was a great play area. The home was nice and large enough to give people private space when needed. Very nice porch space. We would definately go back again.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We recently returned from our stay at the Aitkin Log Cabin and found it to be everything (and more) than the VRBO description. We had a great week. We rarely left the cabin - we didn't need to because everything we needed was right there! I HIGHLY recommend this cabin for a large group - we had 16 and didn't feel crowded at all. Scott was great to work with. Can't wait to go back again!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We rented the cabin for a girls weekend and had 15 girls there. The accomodations were great, there is plenty of sleeping space, and the property and cabin are beautiful. I highly recommend this cabin. We didn't have any children with but there's enough space between levels and rooms that they could easily sleep while other activities were going on. Check it out!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I spent this past week-end at your retreat (9/30/11-10/2/11) and I thought your lake home and property were just wonderful! I would love to come back to enjoy the space again sometime soon. I was very impressed with the comfortable furnishings, the large kitchen and how clean and well maintained everything was~what a great lay out it is for family gatherings. Thank you for your hospitality.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Six siblings and 5 spouses spent a beautiful fall weekend at this grand log cabin. We gather annually to spend time reconnecting and reflecting on the lives of our late parents. We cooked in the large, well stocked kitchen, sat by the fireplace, watched baseball playoffs while gazing at the lake through the large windows and marveled at the beauty of this magnificent structure. The sauna and hot tub were added were ammenities. One thing that really struck us was how immaculate the grounds and buildings have been maintained. The caretakers keep the cabin interior spotless. This is the first VRBO property we'd like to return to. Scott, the owner was very easy to work with. The listing description was accurate and the cabin was so much more than the pictures could convey. We left feeling grateful for the opportunity to enjoy this slice of paradise. Thank you Scott and family.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: This has been our family cabin for several years now. We have 3 kids that love the lake, climbing in the cabin lofts, and running on the grass.
Why the Owner Chose Aitkin:
Only 2 hours or so to home. Good size lake, but not too big.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Unique log cabin excited us immediately. Plus the ability to have multiple families up there, but have separate areas where each could live makes it great for entertaining.
