We enjoyed our stay very much in this comfortable & handy location. The view of the bay is super, but the walk down to the beach may be too much for anyone with knee problems--many stairs! Everything was clean, useable, & on the newer side. Wonderful kitchen. The listing description & pictures are accurate, and the owners are more than helpful in answering questions & giving local tips. They even provide Boogie Boards! The kitty cats about the property are an added feature for cat lovers; but the cats also know when to disappear. There is a rescued duck who appreciates popcorn too. The whole place is fascinating in its unique tropical style, and we're glad we made the right choice! We could have easily spent our entire time at the North Shore. Also, we highly recommend the activities at the Kuoloa Ranch. They treat you very personally without that "processed" feeling.

Aloha, My husband and I stayed Dec. 26, - Jan. 5, 2012. Ken and Linda were wonderful hosts. We loved every minute we were there. The cats were no bother. I miss Chester. He loved kneading my lap,,he's amazing he doesn't use his claws..Linda Thank you for the gift and the memories. Hukilau cafe was awesome. The temple and BYU campus was lovely. The locals were very friendly and kind. The only down we found was no laundry facilities in the town. The closest was 50 miles south by the Valley of Temples. We enjoyed the beauty of the island along the way.. There are no bad experiences in Hawaii. We highly recommend this studio...Mahlo Ken and Linda.
Owner response:Thank you for your wonderful review and your kind words about Chester, he is indeed an "Ambassador of Aloha". Just one correction please. Unfortunately after 32 years the little laundromat just down the street did finally close their doors. It is a bit of a drive now to the laundromat at Temple Valley however, according to Mapquest it is only 20.3 miles not 50 miles as you noted in your review. Aloha, Linda

My husband and I stayed here this past June for our first big trip. It was AMAZING!!!! Seriously the views were stunning and we had everything we needed and more provided for us. The owners were extremely sweet and helpful! Even when the owners were home it still felt like we had the place to ourselves. The pictures are very accurate and the reviews were spot on. I have recommended this place to tons of friends and family and my husband and I are dreaming about when we can come back! We found the Oahu hot spots to be way too overcrowded and were so glad with the choice we made in staying here. You have three miles of beautiful beach, snorkeling and fun with no crowds. If we had to say one small negative I would say it was the cats. I am a cat lover, but I will admit there were a lot of cats. Most of them scatter when you come by but there are three that are not afraid of people and like attention :). With ALL the other things being so perfect, we could definitely overlook the cats. It was a perfect vacation!!

My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at this property! The view was fantastic. The easy access to the beach was great for morning walks. I love how there is hardly anyone on this beach! We spent a day walking around Wakiki, and quickly realized we are so glad we stayed here in Laie away from all the crowd and noise. The cats are sweet, and we loved how Chester liked to "knead" us before he sat on us. The view at the end of the street is breathtaking. We made sure to always start our day by going to the "Point" to take in the view. Make sure to go to the Hukilau Cafe at least once. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

My husband and I stayed for a week at end of May/first of June and absolutely loved it! The view of the ocean and the night sky was fabulous, and the house sits high enough to let you enjoy a greater view than just the beach. Also nice was that the house is situated in such a way that the north shore winds are buffered on the lanai, making every evening enjoyable. The walk down to the beach was a short one which is allowed for impromptu strolls and swims. The studio itself is compact but contains everything needed for a comfortable stay. Both the inside and exterior grounds were very clean and well-kept, and our hosts were both enjoyable and knowledgeable. The cats were sweet and certainly not a bother - I am allergic but had no issues. We would recommend this studio for anyone looking for a nice, relaxing stay and wanting to soak up the surf, sun and atmosphere. Thanks again Linda and Ken!

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights 1/1-1/8/10. The studio was more than we ever dreamed. The views were stunning. We had private access to the beach below. The studio had high ceilings which made it seem very roomy. It was spotless clean. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you'd need. The bed was so comfortable we wished we could take it home with us. Listening to the waves crashing on the shore at night was so relaxing. The bathroom is large with a full size closet with plenty of hangers for clothes. We can't say enough good things about the accomodations. If you are an animal lover you'll love the critters in the yard. However, my husband is not an animal lover, but the kitties won him over eventually with their cute furry faces. If you aren't a cat lover no worries. They are not allowed in the studio. They are also very well behaved kitties and were not a bother at all. There's a cute duck named Milly in the backyard too!

Nice studio, great size for a couple, and easy to get around the North Shore and even the whole eastern side of Oahu. We had a great time with the cats, geckos, and took a moonlight stroll on the beach. We even found a curry house a few minutes north of there! Linda and Ken are very nice and Linda is a good source of knowledge for tourists who are first timers in Hawaii!

Sorry we couldn't stay longer. We came for a friend's wedding on Oahu. The setting was in a quiet neighborhood with the ocean closer than our expectation. I have lovely pictures to remember the view from the kitchen window. Morning walks on the beach were almost solitary. This was a great location for us. Away from the traffic and crowds of Honolulu. It was easy access to villages along the east and north shore. Grocery store and even a movie theater are close. Every detail is considered for the studio. Linda responds quickly to all communication. Chester and his friends were very hospitable. We miss the sound and smell of the ocean (and Ted's Bakery) Aloha and Mahalo.

We came to Oahu for our wedding and honeymoon. It has always been my dream to make it to the Islands and we could not have asked for a better place to stay. The view was amazing and the gentle surf was the most relaxing way to fall asleep. Breakfast was always fresh fruit from the super local fruit stands out on the Lanai overlooking the bay. There is even some great snorkeling right off the bay! We saw a sea turtle our last night here. The guest book is invaluable with tips from previous guests- Sharks Cove was great, also where we got married! Ted's Bakery = Delicious! And the cats made us feel right at home, coming from a house full of animals ourselves. We can't wait to get back and can't thank Linda and Ken ENOUGH for their generosity and hospitality. Mahalo!

We visited during exceptionally high surf, the pounding waves were beautiful but LOUD! At times the water crashing on the rocks sounded like distant artillery, other times like a roiling thunderstorm. A great feature of this place is that it is a world away from Honolulu. If you want to do Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, and other touristy things, Laie will be a bit inconvenient. But if you want to slow down and soak up paradise, you won't go wrong here. Ken and Linda were great hosts. Here's some suggestions: - Sunrise at the park on the far end of the street is a "must do". It's not a bad place to watch sunset, either. - Hit one of the shrimp wagons on your way to or from the North Shore. - Lots of nice beaches between Kaneohe and Haleiwa that are an easy reach from here. - Just this side of Waimea, drive up Pupukea Road to visit a Heiau (holy site). Great views of Waimea Bay from the end of the trail. Take bug spray. - If it's not winter, go snorkeling in Shark's Cove.

From the moment we booked our reservations we knew we had made the right choice. Linda is an awesome property owner and a very special person. She took a lot of extra time answering any questions we had via phone calls and emails, even when we arrived at the studio. The pictures do not do this studio justice. It is absolutely amazing! Very clean and all amenities listed are correct and working. The views are spectacular, the cats are great and the beach is just below the awesome view. The murphy bed is surprisingly very comfortable and the small extra touches like the local grocery card are great. We will definitely stay at this property again. We also had the opportunity to stay at their Heaven's Door property in Hilo on the Big Island and it was awesome as well. If you are looking for a private, non-touristy location to stay without all the commercialization of beaches, this is the place! Can't beat the price either. Thank you Linda and Ken for sharing this beautiful place with us!

Jeff and I have never had a better vacation. The studio was perfect. Very comfy bed. The owners were more than hospitable. It was like staying with family (only this family had a great place on the beach on North Shore.) Location, location, loctation......this place has that and then some. The grocery store right down the hill. A beautiful surprise at the end of the street. It was a wonderful way to spend a week. Thank you for everything.

We had an absolutely fabulous time at this little piece of paradise! In fact, I think I'm still going through withdrawal! It was wonderful to fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing every night, especially with such a comfortable bed. The studio is so close to the best beaches and the magic of the North Shore. Skip the Honolulu city life and just stay up here! Walk on your very own deserted beach, watch the sun come up and the whales breach. Simply perfect.

What an AMAZING vacation! This studio is so perfect that it's hard to describe. It was worth every penny to be out of the crowds and right on the beach. We swam before the sunrise and boogie boarded well after the sunset on many evenings. Each place we wished to visit was within an hour drive from the studio and we were *so* glad to return to the peace and quiet of Laie. Plus, the snorkeling was wonderful and the best spots were within five minutes! We will certainly be returning for future visits.

Cook if you want or look in the guest book to see what others experienced. If you want to relax or do everything from swim to hike to shop, this would be a great place. What a wonderful place to stay! Linda and Ken make this studio better than words can say. You're right above the beach and we slept ever night with the door open so that we could hear the sound of the ocean as we drifted off to dream land. If you want to be away from the crowds that flock to Waikiki, this is the perfect place to be. Make sure to try the shrimp at Giovanni's, the hot is just that, HOT!! Snorkel at Sharks Cove, found it much nicer than any other place on the island. Try some Coconut Porter, but don't try buying any in Laie. Next time we travel to Oahu, the first place we'll look at to stay is this property that Ken and Linda run. Mahalo!

We came to Hawaii this year the last two weeks of August- the first week on Maui in the resort area of Kahana- then we came to Laie for the second week- two dramatically different experiences and while we really enjoyed them both- week two at this unit was THE BEST!!! It was warm the week we were there but we were able to stay ahead of the hottest part of the day when the sun was hitting the windows mid to late afternoon- the evenings were glorious as we left the doors open and listened to the waves. Mornings were great, and the best time to walk the beach as the tide was out and you had a nice firm walking/jogging surface for at least a mile. The pictures on the web site don't do the views justice- it is fabulous. We enjoyed Chester- and yes, I bought him treats! A couple of his friends were always close by and got their share as well. We have rented in Lanikai from indivduals- as well as on Maui and Kauai- this place and the owners- Linda and Ken- beat them all hands down! There's plenty to do in the summer on the North Shore- you can go to Honolulu but you'll just get frustrated with the traffic- We really enjoyed the area's eateries- Ted's Bakery was fabulous- Fumi's Shrimp was better than Giovanni's and there was a really good barbecue place south of Laie about fifteen minutes- I think it was called Uncle Bobos. We have been doing Hawaii about every other year since the mid 90s- and this is the first place we have stayed at that Jan and I agree- we will book again- that's a slam dunk!

We arrived here Saturday from a l0 day Hawaiian Cruise. This is better! Only here for five days and tomorrow is our last. I'm having separation anxiety already. We live in Florida about 20 minutes from the beach---again, this is better! Love having the place open & always hearing and seeing the beautiful ocean, sky, black swan in pond right outside our door----lovely. Studio is clean, very well equipped. We want for nothing. Owners are very helpful, informative. Friends living here in Mililani visited and we had a lovely time sitting out on the verandah & walking along the beach. They loved the place also. Highly recommended. Don't want to leave.

Stayed from 12/7/06 - 12/18/06. I came to Oahu for the U2 concert, and didn't expect much more than that. I left Oahu with so many memories of a perfect place to be. This little studio, was in one word, PERFECT. Great place to see the whole island, great place to lay on your own beach and do nothing, or a great place to just be. Ken and Linda, my new friends, were always there to help me with directions or "which one is the best place to" ... and of course Chester, the cat. I can't think of another place on this island that I would ever want to stay. It's quite, private, very clean, has everything you want and need, and the ocean is right outside your door. I never closed the door at night, and now back at home, I miss the sound of the ocean when I sleep, watch tv, eat dinner or just read. It's wonderful. I chose this place due to the feedback given, and I can say, it's all correct. You will never want for a more perfect vacation place, and if you do, its probably not out there anyway. I stayed at the Jurassic Park place for my first three nights, and then here for the rest of my two week holiday. The best of both worlds for sure. I almost forgot, Aloha Stadium, Dec 9th, U2, INCREDIBLE

Where do we start...We stayed at Ken and Lindas WONDERFUL studio for 12 days and had the best time ever! The place is clean as a whistle, loaded with amenities to no end...and we would of taken the bed home if it weren't so noticeable! I recommend putting the pillows at the opposite end of the bed, so you can go to sleep hearing the ocean, and waking up seeing it. Ken and Linda are there to tell you all you want to know about anything! Very helpful...and make sure you read the guest book before you venture out, so you know what to stay away from or to put on your "to do" list. Chester made our trip away from our 2 cats alot easier. Make sure you bring cat treats! The view is breath taking, you walk down the beautiful private path right down below to a beach that is almost all yours. We highly recomend this place...we will definatly be back next year. Thank You Ken and Linda for sharing your beautiful place and views with us.

My wife and I stayed here from Oct. 2nd to 16th. We had an outstanding two weeks at this great location and hosts who display the true meaning of Aloha. It is truly like an outer island adventure. The Studio large comfortable with too many amenities to mention. Definitely a Million Dollar view in a great neighborhood. (easy walk down to the quaint Laie Shopping Center). Linda and Ken are extremely helpfull with any questions you have and full of suggestions and knowledge of Oahu. Our last night with them was most memorible as we were quests for dinner on a powerless Oahu due to the Earthquake of the 15th. We already miss Chester Checkmark patiently waiting at the patio door in the morning for us. I rate the Martins' Laie rental as our best vacation ever. The experience was far more than we could have expected. Thanks again Ken and Linda

Wow! Perched about 100 feet above the beach you get a spectacular view Laie Bay, not part of it, all of it! Relaxing and comfortable, my wife baked on the beach and I watched her from the shaded studio and enjoyed the beauty of the Bay. You can walk on miles of beach with your eyes close and not run into anyone except people fishing for this tiny 2 inch fish. The studio could be a shack and it would not matter, but it is not. Beautiful tiled floors, full kitchen and bath, and a queen size bed that folds up into the wall. Plenty of room, we could almost live there; again what a view. You could travel the north shore in about 50 minutes and along the way you can enjoy mountain views, snorkel, dive, hike, surf, wind surf, take a ride in a glider and shop (my wife’s favorite). During the drive you have to stop for some roadside garlic shrimp and the Crouching Lion is a must for dinner. If you go to the Polynesian Cultural Center get there not later than 1pm to do everything; especially if you are planning to do the Luau and show. The show ends around 9pm; both the Luau and show are first class and very much worth it. The owners are wonderful and friendly; everything is very private and you would not they are home. Like everyone else that stays we also have to mention Chester, he is the most friendly and lovable cat we have ever seen, we wanted to take him with us. When MacArthur left the Philippines at the onset of the WWII he said that “We shall return” or something like that; so will we. Thanks for a wonderful stay!Tracy & Regina

My husband and I stayed here Aug. 4-8 of 2006 and loved it. It was very peaceful and beautiful. The hosts were out of town at the time but we still had a wonderful time. We got married while there on Aug. 2, 2006 and spent our honeymoon at this location. I enjoyed snorkling and boogie boarding which was furnished for us. We grilled while looking down at the beach and was able to buy a weeks worth of groceries at the grocery store across the way. The owners allowed us to use the resident card for a discount at the store. They are awesome. Thank you so much. We are now planning our five anniversary for next year but are looking for a place that we can bring our three children with us. We wish we could stay with these owners again. If the owner has any suggestions that would be appreciated. Thank again.

A wonderful discovery, this idyllic spot is everything that the web site promises. The South Seas Island beach, the black swan in the pool outside your patio door and the surrounding tropical rain forest vegetation make for a unique vacation rental. The air conditioning was much appreciated by two Canadians who weren't prepared for 90 degree temperatures in October, and the price of $85 a night has to make this the best bargain on Oahu. My wife and I planned on staying at this Laie studio for 3 days during a 7 day Oahu vacation. The accomodations were truly excellent, arranged with lots of attention to detail, a meticulously maintained studio in brand new condition, lots of little thoughtful extras (from kitchen appliances to beach toys), and a beautiful landscaped garden with a private path leading down to the beach. We were fortunate to be able to extend our time there to 6 days, and would highly recommend the place to anybody looking to stay in the Northshore.
