White Sails has one of the best locations on the Maine Coast and was chosen by Lexus for a major national print campaign that was seen in major newspapers and magazines around the country. Situated just feet from the ocean on a small point at the head of Mackerel Cove on Bailey Island, every room in the house overlooks the water. Inside, there are four very comfortable bedrooms: two with king-sized beds, one with twin beds, and one with a single bed and trundle bed if needed. There are three and a half bathrooms—two of which have been luxuriously renovated in the last two years. There is a formal dining room and a glass-enclosed breakfast/dining room. There is also wireless broadband internet, and two large HD flatscreen TVs with hundreds of channels from DirecTV, all recordable with HD DVRs. From the large veranda the view spans from the picturesque lobster-boat harbor of Mackerel Cove, west to the expanse of Casco Bay, and ends 200 degrees later with open ocean.
Bedrooms: There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms all located on the second floor. The master bedroom is enormous with a high cathedral ceiling, a 12' low-set picture window offering a panoramic view of the ocean from the bed and elsewhere, a walk-in closet, a new bathroom with a spacious open walk-in shower, and a 52” Samsung HD Flatscreen TV, Dolby speakers, HD DVR with DirectTV replete with all the premium movie channels, and two electrically reclining chairs. The second ‘master’ bedroom also has a king size bed, is a corner room with windows overlooking Mackerel Cove behind the bed and open ocean from the side. The third bedroom has two twin beds and its own bathroom. The fourth bedroom has a single bed with a trundle bed underneath it. In addition to the four bedrooms there is full office/den with a large desk and window overlooking the ocean.
Entertainment: There are three TVs. One, a 52' HD Flatscreen in the master bedroom described above. There is also a brand new 48' HD Flatscreen TV with separate Dolby speakers in the living room, and a small TV in the kitchen. They are all connected to the DirecTV satellite with DVR satellite boxes for recording and pausing live programming. All premium movie channels are available. In short, the programming plan with DirecTV is the most comprehensive available. DirecTV has over 100 channels of HD, including close to 50 premium HD movie channels such as HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, and MovieChannel. Both the TV in the living room and master bedroom have Bose speaker systems separately attached. As well as enhancing the TV experience, they are perfect for playing CDs, or one of the many satellite digital music channels on DirecTV.
The house consists of a lovely spacious country kitchen; two dining rooms: one in the sunroom with open views of the ocean a matter of yards away, and one more formal (pictured); a living room with wood-burning fireplace,and four bathrooms including a compete renovation of the two main bathrooms featuring large walk-in shower areas.
White Sails is located near land's end on Bailey Island. The island itself offers lovely walks, including the path along the east coast cliffs to the 'Giant's Steps.' Nearby points of interest and proximity by car include Portland (1 hour), Freeport (45 minutes), Boothbay Harbor (50 minutes), Cooks Corner (shopping center and Cineplex - 20 minutes), Maine State Theatre (professional musical theater company) in Brunswick (30 minutes).
