fantastic vistas and comfortable rooms; homey.
fantastic vistas and comfortable rooms; homey.
The house itself is gorgeous and ample. Its views of the mountains are breathtaking. Truly, there is nothing like sipping your morning coffee as you watch a low fog that descended into the mountains before you burn off as the sun rises and the cows gently moo. The furniture is comfortable and the rooms are ample. The tone of the place, all its organic and raw natural elements: stone hearth, wood floors, stone countertops, metallic fixtures ... it's all there. There simply is no bad view from that wraparound deck. The **only** think I would count against it is the well water; with near constant use when I was on a 16-day retreat there, the sulfur scent and taste manifested but the water was healthy and potable. When we cooked with it or heated it for our tea, you couldn't taste it at all. Your silver and gold jewelry will turn, but they will be restored when you polish them. Overall, the sulfur water notwithstanding, I would return here again and again. It's just an hour or so from DC - what's not to love about that?!

Owner response: I appreciate the positive review and comments about the house. Even the mention on the water. However, I'd like to say we have a Culligan Water System that addresses that problem, so I would have been happy to check the system to see what was up. Occasionally there are power surges in our area which kicks the system off, so if I guess I need to let guests know that if they smell a sulfur smell that they need to contact me and we'll come and re-set the system.
Our time at the cabin was good. The views were perfect. We loved the fire pit and gazing at the stars. The wrap around deck was also enjoyable. The property manager was accommodating and helpful to us. There were times however where we wished we were at our own home. The windows do not have blinds to block the sunlight which means the sun woke us up at sunrise. Also, there were no bathmats so our little guy had some slippery accidents getting out of the tub. The beds were in poor shape. This cabin is missing that special touch. No bed skirts, mix matched bedding, no functioning dresser, furniture that was falling apart, holes and scratches on the walls... all things that provide that little special touch. The fridge needed a deep clean as it had food from the previous visitors, dead bugs, and mold growing inside of it. The grill is very small, not adequate for the size of the home. The grill was also a grease caked-on mess of goo. The unfinished basement was not safe for our little guy to play in- even though blocks and toys are provided. Lastly, the water in the home smelled horribly of sulfur. So, the shower looked nice but when it is used it feels like you are showering amongst the nastiest fart ever. Overall, an "average" weekend away.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful house. Everything is as pictured. Very clean and in new condition. Martha was great to work with and very helpful. I would recommend this rental to anyone wanting to get away to the country. You will not be disappointed with this house or the area.

Woodsy Weekend Birthday Bash
Woodsy Weekend Birthday Bash
Absolute Perfect Retreat truly lived up to it's name! From the very start, Martha delivered on everything she said we were getting. The description of their home is spot on. This is a brand new place with all the amenities and they did not skimp on anything. The place was very clean, and everything is new. There was a propane fireplace inside the Great Room and Master Bedroom, outside there is a wood burning fireplace perfect for making S'mores. They left enough firewood for us to enjoy! On top of that, there is a Gas Grill which we used to make most of our meals. The grocery store is about 8 miles away. We found many cleaning products, paper towels, and toilet paper already at the property. If I had one negative thing to say, the ceilings are very high and the light was dim in the living room; you can see some dead bugs got into enclosed light fixtures...that's to be expected in the country! We spent a lot of time on the wrap around porch in rocking chairs, enclosed screened porch, and porch swing. The Master bathroom suite has a very romantic walk-in shower for two with body sprays, whirlpool tub, heated towel bar, private toilet and marble vanity. Even if you don't stay in that room, you should check it out, it's amazing! We were also there during daylight savings time, (we lost an hour) and they were generous enough to allow us a little later check-out. We are already talking about when we have time to come back. Having rented a lot of vacation homes over the years, Martha is a great person to have to deal with and makes the whole process seamless.

About the owner: We own Buracker Construction LLC a Custom Home Builder in the Shenandoah Valley and decided to make this home a vacation rental. We thought offering this home as a vacation rental is a great way to share our favorite place.
Why the Owner Chose Bentonville:
We live and work in this area and think it's the best place to be. I grew up in the Washington area and moved here as a teenager. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
