  We stayed at the Villas on Great Bay during the week of March 22nd. We had a wonderful time! The villas are located directly on the white sandy beach of great bay - literally you step off your deck/patio and you are on your own private beach practically. The Sonesta is close by on the right hand side and the Philipsburg Pier is on the left. Little to no foot traffic on the beach - seriously seems secluded even when the cruise ships are in town. The cruise ship folks stay close to the boardwalk where umbrellas and beach chairs are sold for a small price to them, they rarely cross over the pier to where the villas are though. Jim and Gina (the on-site managers) were extremely helpful and had several great recommendations such as the Eagle Tours (snorkeling and sailing all day on a catamaran which included a 3 course meal). Definitely worth checking out - so much fun! The tour departed down the strip off of Dock Maarten, a short walk down the beach from the villas. The Villas at Great Bay had a sense of community which we enjoyed. Jim and Gina always checked up on us to see if everything was ok, and/or if we needed anything. We rented a car for a couple days on the front end of our trip so we were able to go to the grocery store to pick up cereal, snacks, burgers, hots dogs etc - our villa had a grill so we took advantage and grilled out a few nights during our stay and ate on the porch. The deck was the best part of our villa - we stayed with another couple and while the girls wanted to lay in the sun, the guys wanted to stay in the shade - the deck was conducive to both. I will say that the area the villas are located in is not the safest. We never once felt threatened, however, there are at least four locks you have to lock and unlock when entering and exiting the villas. We were told not to walk on "Back Street" after dark, and not to wear gold or expensive looking jewelry if we walked on the boardwalk at night. Again no one approached us but the town shuts down once the cruise ships leave around 5pm so Philipsburg does have a deserted feeling with bars and steel doors on the shops and stray dogs on the beach close to the dock (not the beach the villas are on). This didn't take away from our experience one bit but just something to be warned about. Overall we had a fabulous stay at the Villas on Great Bay and would definitely recommend staying there to our friends and family.

  Owner response: Hello Mike, thanks for your nice review! We're in a residential quite area, absolutely safe and owners and guests never suffered any kind of issues in over 30 years of activity. Me and my wife always walk downtown for late dinner (we're italians) and come back on the beach boardwalk without any threat feeling. Exiting the villa we ask to use locks as a complex policy because renters cannot share responsibilities on owner private property. Regarding gold and jewelry it's always better not to wear in the Caribbean. You don't need it! See you soon in Villa#9.

  My husband and I had an amazing vacation on the beautiful island of St. Maarten and the Villas at Great Bay! We were looking for 9 days of relaxation and that's exactly what we found! The location of the villas is perfect...the best of both worlds! You can relax on either one of your beachfront patios watching the cruise ships coming in and out of port, sunbathe on the beautiful uncrowded beach in front of the villas and within minutes you can be right in the centre of all the action that downtown Phillipsburg has to offer! We spent a fantastic day touring the island and St. Maarten has many beautiful beaches but we were quite content spending most of our time on the beach of Great Bay. Everything you need is close by...casinos, restaurants, grocery/convenience stores and the shopping is incredible! Therefore you do not need to rent a vehicle if you wish not to. The villa is the absolute best for beach lovers like us...you cannot be any closer to the white sand & crystal clear waters of Great Bay...exactly as described! The owner Luca was wonderful, he answered any questions we had very promptly and shared information via email regarding restaurants, beaches, etc which was very helpful and much appreciated! His villa, as well as the whole property is very clean and well maintained. Best of all, the property managers Jim and Gina are what makes this place feel like home! They are so welcoming and go above and beyond to make sure all guests are comfortable and enjoying their stay. We love to travel and don't often return to the same place but we will definitely go back to St. Maarten and this villa! Thank you Luca for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

  The Villas on Great Bay are a treasure in Phillipsburg! From the moment we entered the complex and were greeted by Jim and Gina, we knew we made the right choice. Villa 9 was a dream come true. Comfortable and spacious for the two of us, and plenty of room for more guests. This condo is perfectly located on the beach for all times of day, with sun, shade, privacy and people watching, all available, depending on where you want to lounge. We decided that this was the best spot in all of Phillipsburg. We slept well, ate like royalty, and played happily. Jim and Gina were perfect hosts, and gave us excellent advice about where to visit and what to do. Our rental car came in handy because we wanted to explore other beaches, and restaurants on the French side. But for those hours that we chose to stay at the villa, the beach and the pool were perfect. We had a magical week, loved the island, and met many happy friendly people. We hope to return as soon as possible, and would stay at villa 9 again in a heart beat.

  My husband, three children and myself stayed at The Villas for four nights and had a wonderful time! Our accomodations were very nice and casual, perfect for our family to relax and unwind. It was incredible to be right on the beach and also to have access to a lovely pool area! Two of the highlights for our family were the outdoor shower and the comfy beds! The living room area was spacious for our family of five. Lastly, the proximity to Front Street and the restaurants was convent and fun.

  I recently returned from a 7 day stay in Villa 9 of the Villas on Great Bay. There were 4 of us in our party. We had a wonderful time! This was the most relaxing vacation I've ever had and the Villa 9 was just perfect. The accomodations are roomy and very clean. The pictures are just as you will experience. The convenience of the Villas to the action on the Boardwalk in Phillipsburg means you don't need to rent a car as you can walk to restaurants and shopping. Bus rides on the island are very reasonable so you can ride to Marigot on the French side for $2.00 one way. However, the Villas are far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk to give you the most relaxing days at the pool or on the beach. Management and owners were very helpful and you can tell they want to give their guests a first class experience. We definitely want to return again. Thanks so much Jim, Gina, and Luca.

  We had a wonderful time while staying at Villa. First I have to say that Luca the owner was so helpful in answering any questions I had via email before we left on our trip. He always got back to me right away, usually within a few hours. He also sent a whole file of information from his stays on the island with everything from favorite beaches to restaurants, and even parking and drink specials! We really used the information he sent, and it saved us a lot of time researching on line. The managers Jim and Gina were equally helpful with anything we needed and Jim also got back to me right away with emails before we left. Jim led us in the right direction when we rented a car, as we had heard stories of where "not" to rent before we got there. The villa was so pretty, and the setting looking out at the ocean was beautiful with the cruise ships coming in and out. You can swim practically right out your door or take a short walk down the beach to Phillipsburg which we always enjoy. The villa was also very clean and well kept. It had everything you would need. Jim and Gina even had a nice bottle of wine, water, and cheese and crackers in a basket for us in the fridge once we got there which was perfect to get you by until the next day after arrival. With so many beautiful beaches in St Marrten it is hard to pick a favorite. We were glad to have rented a car as we got to see the majority of them. Driving around can be a little challenging, but you get used to it. All in all we had an awesome time and would definately recommed this villa. We would stay here again when we go back. There is much to do if you want to, and if not, you have a beautiful patio to relax on and enjoy the surroundings. Luca was wonderful, as were the managers Jim and Gina. Our thanks go out to each of them. We loved your place!!!

  Had a great vacation in villa 9, Its a lovely place the views are great and the poeple very friendly. Luca the owner, Gina and Jim the villa management where very friendly and helpfull.   Reviewed December 5, 2012 My wife and I stayed at the Villas on great bay unit 9 from the 16-22 nov. 2012 . The unit was extreamly clean and well kept. The managers Jim and Gina are the best on the island. They were very friendly and helpful with every from renting a car to giving us sugestions and directions on places to see and eat. The view from the upstairs balcony was great and so relaxing that we fell asleep out there one night. The Villa is close to a nice little corner store and short walk to the board walk and downtown Philipsburg. The beach is very quiet and wasn't crowded at all. We had a wonderfull time sitting on the deck (that is directly on the beach) jet sking, horseback riding, swimming, site seeing and slew of other stuff. When we go back to the island we will stay at the Villas.

  My husband and I recently stayed in Villa #9. We were warmly welcomed by Jim & Gina, the property managers. They were fantastic in recommending transportation, activities and dining options. Car rental is not necessary, but we did rent a car for one day to explore the island. The villa was beautiful and as described by the owner. We found the unit very clean upon arrival. The bedding and towels were in great condition. We particularly enjoyed relaxing on the upstairs balcony, enjoying the water view and lights at night. The swimming at the beach was excellent. We would stay here again.

  We had a wonderful 2 week stay "The Villas on Great Bay". The villa location is right on Front street with great access to shopping, restaurants and Great Bay beach. The complex has direct access to the beach, car rental parking, laundry and a lovely pool area. Being on Great was a perfect location, what an awesome way to wake up in the morning sitting on your deck overlooking Great Bay watching the cruise ships pull into port. The property managers, Frank and Sandy are great people...friendly, informative and available for anything. We were met by Frank with a bottle of wine, cheese in the fridge and the air conditioning turned on! The property was well maintained, easy to find located right in the heart of where you want to be. We felt it very easy to book from VRBO through the owner and the property managers. This is definitely the way to go for a hassle free, home away from home vacation. I will use VRBO again and stay at The villas on Great Bay again....it was a great vacation! Thank you, Heather

Additional information about rental rates

Our minimum stay period is 3 nights.

The maximum that our villas will accommodate is 6 persons including children. Our rates are quoted on a maximum of 4 persons, with an additional charge of $25.00 per night, per person, for additional guests, unless authorized by management.

In order to confirm your reservation, we require a deposit of 50% of your total rental fee. Upon arrival, we also ask for a credit card imprint for miscellaneous charges such as telephone, laundry, and as a security deposit.

Full refund for cancellations 45 days prior to arrival (minus credit card, bank fees).

Additional Fees and Taxes:

+ 10% tax.

Final cleaning is free. During your vacation you can have full cleaning for $40.
