We stayed at the Secluded Hideaway as 2 adults with one toddler and it met our needs just fine. The description and photos are accurate and represent the unit well. It was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The wifi worked just fine. The large covered deck was nice for those brief Hawaiian rainspells and the private little backyard was a nice safe space for our toddler to run around. Although we could hear the upstairs occupant from time to time, it was not disruptive for us. We were, however, concerned about the noise our child made (especially since we never really adjusted to the time change and woke up quite early) and perhaps a stand alone unit would be more appropriate for children who have a hard time finding their "inside voice." The location is quite lovely; a brief walk to the end of Kailua beach park with a large grassy area and calm beach. Be aware that Kailua is on the windward side of the island so it is often quite windy on the beach. Kalapawai market with coffee, sandwiches and other goodies is about 10min walk away, as is Buzz's steak house which is nice for lunch or dinner. Island snow, about 15min walk, has the best shave ice! Kailua town, about a 5 min drive, has grocery and drug stores, restaurants and places to get take out. Coordinating the rental with Catherine, the owner, was easy and the refund was returned very quickly.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Secluded Hideaway is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Oahu and is an ideal place for a couple that loves the ocean as it is within walking distance of Kailua Beach or Lanikai Beach. On the other hand all facilities such as restaurants and shops in Kailua are only a short drive away. Within half an hour you are in Waikiki/Honolulu. The unit was very clean (no Bugs! Which is not necessarily self-evident in Hawaii) and the bed was comfortable. Evelyn the live-in caretaker of the house was very helpful in every aspect. There were a few things we mentioned to the owner after our stay, such as that there is no phone in the unit. We were not aware of this. This might only be a problem for non-American visitors, who can use their cell. The wifi was weak when we were there, however Catherine (the owner) who is more than helpful promised to look into both problems and try to fix them. As far as the noise from above is concerned (I only mention this because it seemed to be a problem in past reviews) it might be a problem when you are very sensitive in that respect, however one has to consider that the homes on Hawaii are mostly wooden structures. Evelyn who lives above the unit is a quiet, single person who does not produce excessive noise beyond the normal daily way of life. One has to be aware that the unit is in the basement of the house. Light comes in from the front where the Lanai is. As it is a large unit, the far end of it, where the kitchen is located, gets little natural light and you have to use the ceiling lights there. This, however, was not a big deal for us. Attention, this place is NOT suitable for people with disabilities, as you have to climb some stairs to get to it.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I highly recommend this vacation rental! True to description, the property is secluded and accessible from the rear of the property. It was quiet, very clean, had everything we could wish for during our stay, including washing facilities. The housekeeper was extremely helpful and very kind. We plan on staying here again when we visit Honolulu.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The listing is perfect and the photos are accurate. The property was clean and well maintained. The deck was a great place for morning coffee and afternoon breaks. The bed and other furniture was very comfortable. The kitchen was adequately equipped and having the gas grill was great. Off street parking was a plus. This is a great property in a great neighborhood but close to beach and town. Having use of beach towels, chairs and such was wonderful. We were in Suite Spot for one week and moved downstairs to Secluded Hideaway for the next week. The only difference was the view and in this one we could hear a very little noise from the neighbors occasionally. We would definitely rent here again and recommend it to family and friends. Evelyn was helpful when we needed anything. Recommended places: Kailua beach at the bottom of the hill, Bellow's Field Beach, Island Snow for shaved ice, Sweet Home Waimanalo, the Steak and Shrimp Cart and Serg's in Waimanalo; Willow Tree for Thai, Fresh Catch for fish tacos, Uahi Island Grille for garlic chicken, Steak Rave and Island Salads. We'll be back!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Visited some family in Kailua in Oct. Transaction was hassle free. caretaker (Evelyn) who lived upstairs was nice and never disturbed us. 3' walk from Kailua Beach Park, out of the track for traffic and noise. 5' drive from downtime. HUGE Lanai, covered, super clean and super private. Not recommended for those with mobility problems as access is via multiple steps, and if you want to cook, the facilities are limited. But it does have a big frig, coffee maker and a comfy bed. Well lit inside, air cond and a great TV. can't beat the location and privacy. Kailua's bch is not as big as Waikiki, but you don't get the whole bch to yourself for sunrises and walks at sunset on weekdays. Unless you use a walker, want to walk to fine dining or love to people watch, I can't see you being disappointed here.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We knew early on that we didn't want to stay in Honolulu or Waikiki, we were looking for a nice quaint place and focused on Kailua. We came across this property, and it was simply amazing! Look at the pictures, spot on accurate. Super clean, easy to keep clean throughout your stay as well. Big TV (not that you'll need to use it much), books, WIFI, as well as a cute game "Don't Spill the Beans" which our daughter loved. There is plenty of material that you can read about Kailua and attractions around the rest of the island. Parking can be tight, but should be doable for most vehicles. Our issue was only that the upstairs renters sometimes didn't know which side to park on or parked crooked. The driveway is short, so parking and getting the rear of your car out of the alley is important. The laundry was easily accessible, and there was plenty of beach gear to use during our stay. The lanai was terrific and was used on an every day basis for us. There were a few things that we noticed would have been nice to have. There were no measuring cups, only two beach towels, and just a few other basics for the kitchen. You'll have to remember that there is no conventional oven, but it really wasn't anything that we missed while we were there. All in all, it was an amazing place. We would love to stay there again when we come back to Kailua.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My Son and I stayed 5 nights in June and it was a perfect spot for us. We went to Oahu with a list of things we wanted to do around the Island which were all easy to get to from the Hideaway. Kailua and Lanakai Beaches are the BEST and only a few minutes away. We love laid back Kailua town with great eating spots so close by. The Hideaway was VERY comfortable looked exactly like the pictues and had everything we needed including a garage full of beach gear. The outside patio is great spot to relax, have coffee and maybe even a snooze. I only wish we had more time just to hang out at there. Camellia lives on the property and was around if we needed anything, we missed owner Catherine (and from the other reviews her famous mango bread) who was out of town. If we find ourselves on Oahu again, we will definetly give Camelia and Catherine a shout!Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

The rental was in wonderful condition and looks just like the pictures on the site. Catherine was super helpful with info and details as well as loaning out beach gear. The BBQ & lanai made for a perfect evening. The beautiful beach, hikes and activities are all within walking distance. Can't say enough about the wonderful stay and the fantastic rental, would love to stay again. Only thing to keep in mind is that you do hear the noise from the upstairs so if you are not an early riser may find it hard to sleep through (if your'e from the states this wont be a problem because with the time diff. you'll be up by 6 am any way). ;)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback! An important update to share: Beginning May 27, 2012 the four people who lived upstairs move out, and a single person moves in, which will reduce the noise significantly. Everything else remains the same, so future guests will experience the same amenities, just less noise. Mahalo!

From the moment we arrived to the very second we left...and we squeezed every second out our stay was amazing. The suite is very spacious, clean and well planned out. Having the covered patio was like having another room...we spent mornings sipping coffee before our daily adventures. Being the cooks we are, the kitchen was fantastic to have. Besides the accommodations being perfect, Kailua is also a wonderful place and the location is absolutely perfect for getting anywhere on the island and just a short walk to one of the best beaches in the world. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Kailua.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Why the Owner Chose Kailua:
We feel fortunate to have found this home since it is in a great location. It's a quiet, safe neighborhood on a dead end street so there's no through traffic. It sits up on the side of a hill so it catches all the tradewinds and keeps life cool. It's an easy walk to one of the prettiest beaches in all of Hawaii! The park at the bottom of the hill has a nice walking path, big trees for shade and open spaces for volleyball games, etc. Downtown Kailua is about a 20 minute walk from the house, or 5 min drive. The house has 3 stories with this studio located on first floor.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
This property is located in a peaceful neighborhood right by Kailua Beach Park, a great park for BBQ's and big get-togethers with friends and family. There's no traffic like on the other side of the island, and Kailua is a quaint little town with a good variety of restaurants and shopping. For night life, there are fun little bars in Kailua town, or it's a short drive to Waikiki. Of course there are tons of options for activities, no matter what the weather is!
