Gloria & Hector!!!!! How we miss you! Words cannot express how amazing it was to meet you and to stay in your cozy home. I made my reservation for this B&B in June, 2012. Since then, I had been in contact with Gloria via email for several months before our stay. We hit it off and I looked forward to the start of our Patagonian vacation in Valparaiso with this truly wonderful pair. The overall experience was magnificent. They picked us up in Santiago and provided a tour of the city highlights. Gloria and Hector provided local insight to delicious cuisine, history and unforgettable sights. During our stay, they also took us to tour several wineries (Viva Coyam!!!) and surrounding towns such as Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. Their haven is truly a home away from home. The house is comfortable, cozy and private. From the landscape, to the decor, fruit trees, flowers, yummy delights prepared by Gloria and Hector and two of Chile's kindest and biggest hearts, you will not be dissapointed. I felt like family and Gloria & Hector will forever be in our minds, hearts and prayers! Thank you for the memories and I hope that those considering a stay here will do it and make memories that matter! ;-)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: What can we say, dear Javier and Zory...THANKS SO MUCH! Our home and hearts will be always opened for you. Your kind memories made absolutely worthwhile our "job" and for sure we'll continue doing our best to make all of our passengers feel comfortable and relax at La Retuca. Blessings, Gloria & Hector

My husband, our two daughters and I had the great fortune of choosing Hector and Gloria's B&B for three wonderful nights during our trip to Chile. From the moment we step out of our car into their backyard we felt so comfortable in their home that it really almost felt like being "at home"! Hector and Gloria are such wonderful hosts and beautiful people that you really cannot help but immediately feel close to them. Our two daughters loved spending time with Hector and Gloria and they loved the accommodations as did we. Hector and Gloria were very helpful in giving us tips when visiting Valparaiso and there are beautiful walking trails just out their door for guests to explore. The meals we had were absolutely delicious and healthy. Our girls are not ones to usually ask for seconds but they did with Hector's cooking! We would truly recommend this B&B and we are most certainly going to be back when we return to Chile !! Thank you so much for everything Hector and Gloria. The girls miss Canela!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We miss you all! It's so good to have had such a nice family at home... Hector just loved to cook for you and for sure he'll continue preparing our typical recipes. It's a real challenge for him to figure out new dishes for our guests... Canela waves her tail to the girls and their lovely hand made card will be for ever and ever on our fridge.. You'll be very welcome anytime!

If you are looking for a place to start your Chilean vacation this is it. Gloria and Hector were great tour guides taking us to wineries in the Casablanca valley. They gave us great ideas for planning the rest of our vacation in Chile. We felt very comfortable not only with them but they gave us the confidence that we could comfortably travel the country without being able to speak the language. There is great hiking in the hills close to their home where you can see stunning views of the valley below.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much Shelley and Mike! We are always looking for good tips and directions that allow our guests to wander around on their own not only in our Valparaiso region but all over our country. We also do our best to help them in their plan travels to Mendoza and Buenos Aires - Argentina.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

Hector and Gloria were wonderful hosts. We were met at the cruise terminal and that started an insider's tour of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. They took us to a great place for empanadas. The next day they took us on a tour of great wineries in the region. They did all the driving and arranging making it very low stress on us. Their home is very interesting and surrounded by an orchard. The bed and bath were very quiet, clean and comfortable. The private patio off of our room was delightful. The food was good and they easily accomodated a food allergy.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much ! We really enjoy having you at home and tour you around... We love to offer our visitors our personalized cares and figure out with them the best tour options. The idea is just to be relaxed and optimize your time around our region.

My wife and I travel extensively and use vrbo frequently. Gloria and Hector fit a category "well above and beyond the norm." They are more than willing to be your personal delightful tour guides plus cheefully prepare breakfast and dinner. Whether it's the wine country or the seacoast, they are insider tour guides that you can't get through a travel agency. They couldn't be more gracious in opening their home to you and if you're lucky, Hector will bake some of his great bread. Take time to smell the roses and visit them! My husband and I stayed here a couple nights before boarding a cruise ship in Valparaiso. The owners picked us up early morning at the airport, took us home with them, giving us a little tour on the way to Valle Central (where the vinyards are), they fed us dinner, then breakfast the next morning before taking us on wine-tasting tour. The last day, they took us for a tour of Valparaiso & Vina del Mar before taking us to board the ship. It felt like staying with friends. We are not big city folks and dreaded trying to rent a car & find our way around in Santiago. This is a great option for folks like us. It was one of the highlights of the trip to actually stay in a home instead of an impersonal hotel!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We just love to figured out with our visitors their best tour options. The idea is optimize their time and that everyone of us have the opportunity to enjoy and be relaxed... Thanks so much for this warm feedback!

This place is incredible because of its wonderful owners Gloria and Hector. We felt like cherished family members rather than guests. They are both so kind, passionate and helpful in every way. We laughed more than we have in a long time which is the best recipe for a perfect vacation. We got to visit a number of wineries, and other great places in and around Valpo, and enjoyed just hanging out in their lovely yard. We miss you already Gloria, Hecotr and Canela. We hope to see you again either in Chile or San Francisco.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Gloria and Hector are the nicest people we have ever encountered in all our travels. From our initial conversations booking, our introduction upon pick-up and two days we spent with them friendly, hospitable, endearing can only start to cover it. Upon our pick up from Santiago, we were given a tour of the areas we had not seen yet. Upon leaving Santiago we departed to Casablanca where we were shown the best of the best in Chilean wines, views of the countryside and mountains. Gloria had everything organized from vineyards to snacks and lunch in between. We then arrived at their charming rustic country home (built with pride by Hector), where we were welcomed with Pisco Sours, homemade bread, and snacks. Later that evening we were delighted with a wonderful handmade dinner by Hector, wine, fantastic conversation and music. The next morning after breakfast by Gloria we were off to tour Valpariso and Vina del Mar. We were shown the best of the cities, leading way to great picture opportunities. We were then treated to a great drive of the coast and a stop for empanadas for lunch along with a local beer. Laughter, stories and hugs were shared and memories created. Friends made for a lifetime and we can only hope to see them again in the future. Thanks so much Gloria and Hector for a unforgetable trip in Chile!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

THE PLACE IS VERY CHARMING, LOCATED IN A LOVELY AREA VERY CLODE TO THE WINE COUNTRY AND VALPARAISO. THE OWNERS ARE A LOVELY COUPLE THAR CATER TO YOU ,AND WANT YOU TO FILL AT HOME. THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT . WHAT IS GREAT ; IS THAT YOU MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE . I WOULD RECOMEND THIS PLACE TO ALL MY FRIENDS THAT WANT TO HAVE THE PLEASURE OF SHARING THE LIFE AND CULTURE OF A CHILEAN FAMILYRecommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: We enjoyed very much Ceci's company. We are absolutely grateful to her friendship and hope she'll visit us in the next future. Now an early Springtime has arrived, our almonds trees surprisingly bloomed and the big "Pinguera de los Andes" a unique hummingbird from SouthAmerica, appeared in front of our window to share the feeder with the little ones.

Why the Owner Chose Valparaiso:
