Michel's place was great for us. We were a party of 4 adults, 2 in one bedroom (a low-lying double futon) and the other two in separate bedrooms (twins). It was so great to have that privacy for all and be able to keep different hours without disturbing one another. The upstairs bathroom had a bath/shower and worked well if you aren't too tall. The ceiling slopes over the shower. It has a huge skylight so lots of light! It also has a washer/dryer which worked perfectly. The downstairs bathroom had a small shower, toilet, sink, and the water heater. That shower worked wonderfully when we remembered to use the switch to keep the water hot - you must remember to do that or you run out of hot water quickly :) The only issue we had with the kitchen was the microwave/convection oven. Just could not get it to cook well. We improvised with the stovetop and had wonderful meals. (The oven and the futon - which was pretty hard - were the only reasons I gave this a 4-star rating rather than a 5-star rating). The living space was fabulous, the elevator worked perfectly, the location - one block from Rue Mouffetard, 2 blocks to the metro, walking distance to many sights - was really ideal for us. We were there in the winter and the radiator kept us warm. There are about 65 steps to the front door so you should be in shape but you can use the lift for luggage, etc. Honestly, it was a wonderful trip for us and we would stay there again! Michel was very straight-forward in the business aspects of the rental and our deposit was returned almost immediately. He helped me out with using PayPal and met us a few days in advance of our stay to show us his home and how everything worked. Highly recommended!

Michel's description of his property as an "oasis of calm and charm" is spot-on: this is an extremely quiet, serene apartment with lots of character. We loved the wood and tile floors, the light-filled space, and the attractive furnishings. The apartment is also very spacious, with a bonus of 2 full baths. You will definitely feel that you're in someone's home, not an impersonal rental unit. Lots of Michel's belongings are around, including a guitar & keyboard that we were welcome to use, and a terrific collection of English-language books. The place does have idiosyncracies, though. The staircase from the main living level to the bedrooms upstairs is narrow and creaky--not good for someone with mobility issues. The master bedroom features an extremely firm futon mattress on a wooden platform very low to the floor. We slept surprisingly well, but the bed might not be comfortable for all. The kitchen appliances weren't easy to use--the housekeeper (English-speaking and very kind) who showed us how to turn on the stove had trouble with it herself, and the microwave was also tricky to operate. The downstairs shower stall is very narrow and doesn't drain well, and for our first few days, until we learned that we could adjust the temperature setting on the nearby hot-water heater, the water was tepid. As for the upstairs shower, we could never get it to work. There was a switch to redirect the water flow from the tub faucet to the shower nozzle, but I guess we didn't have the magic touch. Might have been just as well, as we were instructed to use that shower either sitting down or kneeling, to avoid flooding the bathroom. We also had trouble using the iMac and the phone (when Michel gave us the phone number, he did not explain that the first two digits were the country code, which need to be dropped when making local calls, and that you need to add a 0 before dialing the rest of the number). I believe that Michel usually welcomes guests in person, and if that had been the case with us, perhaps we could have gotten clearer instructions from the outset. As it was, we did not even get clear directions to the apartment, and when we first arrived, workers on the ground level tried to shoo us away, insisting that no one lived on the upper floors! If you don't mind some quirks, you will have a comfortable stay in lovely, peaceful surroundings in a convenient location. And Michel will do his best to be helpful--he was very pleasant to deal with.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We've just returned from a 10 day stay in this wonderful apartment on a quiet side street in the bustling fifth arrondissement. It was a wonderful vacation spot for the four of us--two adults and two young adult children. The esthetics of the apartment are wonderful--it is beautifully and artfully decorated. The layout is a bit quirky as it is a converted artist's workshop but it is very livable. The kitchen is well-stocked and fitted with modern appliances and all remodeled nicely (i.e. the refrigerator is paneled to match the cabinetry). There is a washer and dryer in the upstairs bathroom. The Wi-Fi network worked very well and there is a very large Mac desktop provided. In addition there is a telephone with VOIP for free international phone calls. There is a tiny (two person) elevator in the building or else you can climb the 63 steps to get up to the top floor where the apartment is located. The apartment is bright and airy and there is a great deal of light from sky lights and huge windows opening onto the rooftops of neighboring buildings. The building itself is set back from the street in a very quiet, gated private courtyard and the small street itself is tranquil and just a few steps away from a very busy neighborhood. There are countless restaurants (of varying quality) and good grocery shopping options very close by. The metro is only about three short blocks away. The Pantheon, the Grand Mosque of Paris (with incredibly good pastry in the tea salon and delicious food in the restaurant), the beautiful Jardin des Plantes, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Roman ruins at the Arenes Lutece are all within short walks and the Seine and Notre Dame are just a bit further--maybe fifteen or twenty minutes by foot. Michel, the owner, was congenial, trustworthy, helpful and speaks perfect English. All in all this a terrific vacation apartment!
