Sweet Success is a classic duplex-style beach cottage just steps from the ocean, with a private path winding through sea oats, grasses, and beautuful sand dunes. Each side rents separately , or you can rent both sides when available.
You can bring 'man's best friend' along on vacation to this pet-friendly cottage, complete with 'doggie' gates on the ocean-side deck (great for little children too!). You can relax and enjoy the ocean breezes on the beach-side deck, or the view of our quiet neighborhood from the street-side deck (both furnished). Dine 'al fresco' at the picnic table oceanside. Relax in a hammock in the shade under the house! A gas grill is provided for your cooking pleasure, as well as a fully equiped kitchen (complete with microwave and toaster-oven for quick meals).

The master bedroom (street-side) has a private bath, and the second queen-sized-bed is oceanfront, with a beautiful view of the waves. A twin bunk-bed room separates these two bedrooms, with a hall bath just steps away. Sunsets and sunrises are both equally amazing from this south-facing beach. Stargazing is incredible from the ocean deck, and moonlight over the ocean is SO romantic!
This cottage is located in a uniquely low-traffic area, with no through traffic along Ocean Drive. The neighborhood is largely owner-occupied, with a limited number of rental houses. The new Emerald Isle bike path system connects our neighborhood with the shopping district. The washer/dryer is shared betweeen the west and east sides. Linens are not provided, but can be rented on the island if you choose not to bring your own.
If you are lucky, you may be here when a sea turtle nest is laid (May through August) or witness a 'boil' when a nest hatches (July -October). In 2012 we had two nests within 1/2 mile of Sweet Success. The 2013 nesting season has started, with FIVE nests in Emerald Isle as of 6/14/2013. Two lucky sunrise walkers found mamas still on the beach at 6 AM, covering their nests and crawling back to the ocean! Love those sunrise walks!
When you've had enough fun in the sun, there are many local attractions to help make your vacation memorable. The North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores is a must-see! Come learn all about sea turtles and their rehabilitation in a new exhibit at a 'sea turtle rescue hospital'. Other area attractions include a maritime museum and boat-building facitlty in Beaufort, a Civil War era fort in a state park at the east end of the island, and the Tryon Palace/history museum in New Bern. Free outdoor concerts are heald throughout the summer in Emerald Isle, Swansboro, and at Fort Macon.

While the view was amazing and the location perfect, that does not compensate for the mold on the shower curtain, hair on the bathroom floor upon arrival,mold on the doors, obvious water damage on thmultiple walls, the wall paper in the bathroom is being held up by pushpins, as well as roaches and spiders in the house. The kitchen was not clean either the turntable on the microwave is dirty , and the sink and the dish drainer was dirty also, the stove burners did not work properly. This was our first visit to Emerald Isle. Have rented from VRBO in the past and was very satisified.Furniture needs updating and to be more comfortable.Owner response: We are sorry that one of our guests was not delighted with their stay, and wish that they had notified us of their concerns prior to their departure. We are very lucky to have a wonderful property management team available in town for any issues. They would have been happy to send their team back for additional cleaning or repairs. With the busy rental season in full swing it is entirely possible that situations occur that we just aren't aware of. Our goal is always to be responsive to guest's needs, and hope to provide a relaxing, enjoyable beach experience!

I don't really want to share the secret of just how great this place is because I want it to always be available! This beach house is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the ocean far away from the overcrowded beaches of the OBX, but with the same breathtaking views and local entertainment/food. The owners have always gone to great lengths to insure that we are happy and comfortable, while also providing privacy that everyone craves when vacationing. My two Boston terriers also love coming here as well! The gate for the deck is secure and provides a nice place to hang outside with the furry family members. the grounds surrounding is also non-busy and safe for walking the dogs at night. If you love the beach and don't want to pay for all the extra gadgets in larger beach houses designed to distract you from nature, then this is the perfect getaway! It's a home away from home!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Yesterday a.m. was rainy so we went to the acquarium. I loved the turtles there, and Hannah too. She'll be thrilled if we can see a nesting area. Looks like the weather for the rest of our stay is going to be beautiful. We are having a wonderful time, the house and location are perfect for us. Olivia came and plopped on my lap with your photo album, so we read all about the hurricanes and rebuilding the dunes. Hi Sharon - I just wanted to thank you for having us rent your Sweet Success West over Memorial Day weekend. It was such a cute cottage and in the perfect location! We very much enjoyed it and so did the dogs! They enjoyed the porch with the doggie gates and also hanging out on the beach. We may just have to do this again! About: We live 'full-time' in Emerald Isle, and are retired (mostly). We enjoy spending time with family and friends both here at the beach and at our 'other' home in the Finger Lakes district of NY. We both volunteer for Emerald Isle's sea turtle protection program, and walk the beach as often as we can in search of nests (we are the two in yellow with our daughter and grandkids at last year's Nest 2 excavation). Sharon volunteer's at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores where we have a family membership. We spend many happy hours there with all our grandchildren! We are dog-lovers, who always enjoyed travelling with our chocolate lab, Rudy (we miss her very much). We enjoy biking on EI's new bike paths, golfing, swimming, fishing (Howard), photography (Sharon). We've spent the past 13 years 'growing sand' on our frontal dunes, which we are very proud of!
Why Emerald Isle:
Emerald Isle is such a family-friendly town, with gorgeous white sandy beaches. It sits on Bogue Banks, which runs east/west, making for a very stable beach as well as fabulous sunrises and sunsets!

The easy access onto the beach is one of our primary benefits. We love cocktails on the deck watching the sunset, as well as quiet dinners watching the ocean. Our grandkids especially love the new hot/cold outdoor shower under the house.
