A quaint townhouse - Huntley Lodge is part of an original firehouse dating from 1812 - adjacent to Lodge Alley - a narrow cobblestone alley that connects historic East Bay Street and State Street that is reportedly the site of as many as 50 duels.
Enjoy your own private courtyard (walled and gated). This small private courtyard is adjacent to the large courtyard with gaslights and a large fountain which is part of the Historic Lodge Alley Inn "home away from home" for many celebrities that visit Charleston - Two blocks from Waterfront Park on the Charleston Harbor - steps away from most of Charleston's premier restaurants, one block from the Old Market, and an easy stroll to The Battery.
The townhouse has original wide plank heart pine floors upstairs and down. Two bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen bed and a king-size bed in the master; both bedrooms have private baths, and master bedroom has a small balcony overlooking the courtyard. There is a queen sleeper sofa downstairs in the main living area facing the gas log fireplace and has access to a half bath. This home is ideal for two couples, or a couple with children.

Lodge Alley : in the Heart of Charleston's French Quarter
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Charleston
We are in the real estate and interior design business in Charleston and Hilton Head. There is a limited amount of property like "Huntley Lodge" in the historic French Quarter area of downtown Charleston and we found this opportunity irresistable. The location is second to none...you can park your car and never get back in it if shopping in a multitude of stores and dining in first class restaurants is your goal. The ambiance and history is palpable !
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome
You can enjoy a vast array of art galleries, antique shops and historic venues within a few minutes of your private , gated courtyard and the luxury of the townhome itself is evident from the moment you step inside. Flickering gaslight lanterns and the centerpiece water fountain add a special feel to the larger gated courtyard available when more space is desired.
Owner's Map of Charleston
Sonny and Dean Huntley , along with Sonny's sister Beth , purchased "Huntley Lodge" because they love downtown Charleston . The native South Carolinians have visited the area all of their lives and decided to get a piece of history for themselves. They wanted a place to visit with friends and family while having some income to offset the costs. It has worked very well , except they cannot spend nearly as much time there as they would like.Even though Beth lives in the area and Sonny and Dean live in Hilton Head , visiting the property has been limited. They hope to change this in the future and gather for the many fun and interesting things the "Holy City " has to offer!

We stayed at Huntley Lodge October 2011. We have nothing but wonderful memories. The lodge is located central to all activities, well maintained, comfortable, cozy and an ambience of true Charleston charm. Additionally, the manager of the property was very accomodating and efficent. We hope to return to Huntley Lodge.

We just returned from a 2 day 2 night vacation to Charleston. This Town Home is everything it claims to be and more. We met friends there and felt like we were in a home. It was wonderful to be able to walk all over the historic district. We enjoyed the neighborhoods, historic homes, walking along the bay and Battery, restaurants, and shops. It was warm enough to enjoy coffee in the courtyard the first evening, and we were so glad to come in the enjoy the cozy fireplace after our explorations the second day. The beds are extremely comfy and the water instantly hot in the showers. We would recommend this to anyone who wants to explore Charleston from a lovely, quiet home away from home.

We rented this house to stay at in Charleston while there for our wedding. We wanted something close to everything that would also be a wonderful place to get ready at and this was everything we wanted and more! Everything was wonderful and comfortable and it was so close to everything! It was such a great location because our reception location was literally a minute's walk away. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this townhouse to everyone!

My husband, son and I stayed here for our fall break vacation and we totally loved everything about this beautiful townhome. Perfect location....we didn't even rent a car...walked or rode trolley to each location. Absolutely loved the private patio each morning!! This is my third trip to Charleston and I would definately chose to stay at this wonderful townhome again. Pam was wonderful to work with and was very accomodating.

Our experience at Lodge Alley was great! The house provided everything we needed and was clean and lovely. We grilled three times on the cute pig grill! The location is absolutely the best - close to all of the beautiful historic sights and great restaurants. Thanks for a great vacation!

I traveled to Charleston for a girl's weekend with 5 friends. We loved this home! It was beautifully decorated, clean, and close to everything we wanted to do for the 3 nights we visited. Pam was very accomodating & even helped me sneak a gift down so it was waiting for my friends upon their arrival. We loved every minute of our trip & would definitely stay here again!

What a wonderful way to celebrate our 40th anniversary! Huntley Lodge was a beautiful place to stay. It was very clean and felt like home away from home. The location was perfect. We walked everywhere. We are hoping to return next year.

The Huntley Lodge is absolutely the best place we have ever stayed in Downtown Charleston. The location is perfect - we just parked our car in the garage (a block away) and kept it there all weekend. Everything was within walking distance - the Market, the Waterfront Park, and all of the beautiful historic homes to walk around. Some of the best restaurants in Charleston are just steps away (SNOB, High Cotton and Blossom are all excellent and within a block) and the beautifully restored Dock Street Theatre is only 2 blocks away. The townhome is spacious and features a brick fireplace and beautiful old wide-plank floors. Having a private courtyard in the heart of downtown was also a fantastic amenity. Everything was privided for a comfortable stay and the owners were teriffic to work with. We have never stayed anywhere in Charleston quite so quiet either - the townhome has a private walled courtyard that opens onto a larger open courtyard - unlike some other places we have stayed downtown, there is no road noise here! Stay here and you will not be disappointed ... we have stayed a number of places in Charleston and it is not possible to find a better value or a more convenient location than the Huntley Lodge.
