Missoula cottage description
The Chestnut Street Cottage is a historic home, tucked within one of Missoula’s loveliest down town neighborhoods. It is within 50 feet of the River Trail system which connects much of Missoula to the Downtown community, and the Univ. of Montana campus. Whether you bike or hike, the town is yours for the taking. The Cottage is stylishly furnished for comfort. The kitchen is roomy and well equipped. The back yard, or the front porch, is set up for relaxation. Our guests include business professionals, fly fisherman, new grandparents, and University Guests. Come see for yourself, and enjoy a respite in the heart of our town.
This historic home was built in 1910 for railroad workers when they got off duty. Railroad tracks that used to run by the Clark Fork River near the Cottage, have since been removed. This home was renovated inside in the late 1990's and my husband and I lived in this house making it as comfortable as possible for use as a future guest home. I hope you enjoy staying in a piece of Missoula history!

Convenient & super clean, with a few caveats
Convenient & super clean, with a few caveats
This is a charming little house, but the pics don't convey that it backs up to a somewhat grim, alley/commercial area--we did not use the backyard at all, it just looks crummy and dusty back there. Front porch has nice wicker furniture, but gets full sun, so too warm to sit our mornings when the temps are still cool. House is super clean and well outfitted--the kitchen is gigantic and very thoughtfully equipped, nothing to lack for. Bath is small and quaint (clawfoot tub with shower) and TV has a zillion channels and a comfy loveseat to watch from, in it's own separate room. What my caveats are: 1) the windows do not open in the house. Thank god there was a window AC in the bedroom, b'c it was 97 degrees during our stay, and open doors are only means of getting air circulation. Front room heats up due to no shade on the half-glass front door. 2) the king bed is nice in the bedroom, but there is very little room to sit a suitcase and maneuver around the bed. We appreciated being allowed to check in early, and found everything in tip top cleanliness, and a little bowl of chocolates to greet us. The living room furniture is a little 90s, and a few too many geegaws around, but a comfy place. You are ten steps from the river trail.

We were traveling with our children 15 and 20. This house is spotless and in a perfect area to explore Missoula. You can walk, run or bike on the trail just a few steps out the front door it follows along the beautiful river. You are close to explore the shops and restaurants. The porches are perfect for morning coffee (with something yummy from Bernice's Bakery just a couple blocks away) or reading in the evening. The house is equipped with everything you need. Our children loved having a central location where we could all do our thing and not get in the car!
