The Bonaire House has the original hardwood floors and native unpainted knotty pine walls that add warmth to this unique original Florida home. The Master bedroom has a Queen bed and the second bedroom has 2 twin beds. Some of the original owners dishes, decoration and art work are still displayed, adding much charm to this 'Florida Cracker House'
Watch the abundant wildlife and beautiful sunrises from the back porch or from the dock's deck. There are beautiful cranes that perch on the dock almost daily. Enjoy a cup of coffee or have your breakfast on the back porch which has a great swing and outdoor seating and overlooks the Gulf's eastern bayou. On low tide see the Pink Spoon Bill's snooping around for minnows that were left behind.
Park your boat, catch crabs and catch redfish off your private dock. Or throw a cast net if you have one! Grill your catch of the day and have a picnic or maybe an just have an old fashion weiner roast in the large shaded back yard. Maybe have a game of Horseshoes! In the fall, enjoy an outdoor fire or oyster roast. The new deck addition at end of dock is equipped with a convenient fish cleaning station. Access to the deep water channel #2 is approximately 250 feet away. No need to get in your car...boat rentals and fishing supplies are available across the street at the Cedar Key Marina.
The high school's tennis courts are open to the public, you don't even need a reservation! A basketball court is located at the beach downtown, just go join in a pick up game!
If you are looking for a fancy, high-end house, this isn't the place for you. But if you are looking for a relaxing, fun, interesting, old fashion vacation with your family or friends then Cedar Key and the Bonaire House would be a perfect fit!
The Bonaire House will make your vacation stay in Cedar Key charming in every way.

The Bonaire House was everything we expected...plus more. My boyfriend and I only spent 2 nights there during our week long vacation, but we wish the entire week had been in this Cedar Key house. We were in awe the minute we walked in. The kitchen and bathroom were both fully stocked with every item we could possibly need. The weather was a little chilly during our stay, but we found many options around the house and in Cedar Key to keep us happy. We recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away to a relaxing island with fewer tourists than the Florida Keys, but just as quaint and less expensive. We will definitely be back for a longer stay the next time. :)Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We returned from the Bonaire house tonight after a three day weekend. It was everything the add said and more. It was cute, and cozy and well stocked. We took our kayaks, fished and crabbed off the dock, had a fire in the fire pit, drank our OJ in the swing on the back porch. We visited the shops downtown and are out at Tony's and had their world famous chowder. We bought the best shrimp from just down the road at Southern Cross Seafood. We bought rum cake from the owner's sister right next door. We can't wait to go back when it gets warmer. We had the best quiet relaxing weekend celebrating our anniversary!! We loved it and would highly recommend it!!!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

I just got back from visiting Cedar Key for the first time. What a wonderful place. This home was better than advertised. It was spotlessly clean and the porches, yard, dock and outdoor settings were just unbelievable. We rented boats and went out sight seeing and fishing two days and wanted to do that more but found ourselves hanging out at the house, barbcueing, playing horseshoes, and just enjoying the outdoors. The owners take great pride in making this place a perfect vacation spot. The house was more than fully equipped. I cannot think of anything that we would have wished was different. Thank you so much for letting us live in your paradise for 3 days. Really perfectRecommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: I just showed your review to my son August who is 19 years old....he said that is so cool! When are we going???? When my daughter and her (Texas) 21 year old sorority friends were heading to Disney last summer. I told them to stop by and stay at the Bonaire House. We took them fishing....it was beautiful out on the boat. We caught maybe 90 trout and spanish mackeral....the girls were like "why exactly are we going to Disney World"??? We are coming to Cedar Key next year!

My best friend and I travel all over Florida for fishing, and we are always looking for a relaxing clean cabin to stay in. This one tops the list. This was our first time to Cedar Key, and it was very relaxing. AT the cabin we sat out back and used the fire pit both nights we were there. The cabin was super clean, and well stocked. The two porches, and dock out back gave us plenty places to kick back and relax. We will definitely be back to this cabin. The location was perfect.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: I will be glad for you to come again....hope that ya'll can come and stay longer. Maybe you can bring you kids the next time. Kids love it here and will want to come back year after year. Before you came and stayed at the house....we spoke on the phone....I knew that you and your friend were going to like the house a lot. So I was glad to see your very nice review. Thanks for taking the time to write one. Rosemary

Just wanted to thank You for a New Years that will forever be one of our best. The house is amazing and there is nothing left out everything you would ever need to make your visit a fond memory. The views are outstanding the bike rides around the islands are rewarded with views that artist would paint. Did I mention the Island Girl bakery right next door, the fruit cake is unmatched in my opinion and the rum cake is got to be one of the best we have ever tasted. And to end the evevings with a fire in the backyard firepit with storys of the days adventures and sites could'nt be left out. Thank you for the chance to stay at your house,we will be back. Mark and Michelle V.L.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Oh, two reviews back to back.....what a pleasant surprise. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I am so glad. Your beautiful description of your family's trip to Cedar Key makes me long to be there. Don't tell Jan I told you this....but the rum cake is my recipe:) Hope to see you in the spring or summer. It is really a beautiful time to come. Thanks for the terrific review! Rosemary

My husband and I rented the Bonairre House for a Chrismas vacation on the gulf coast. It was our first time visitng Cedar Key. It was very calm and relaxing. We enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and had every thing we needed for the stay. We toured the key on the golf cart that we rented and enjoyed eating at a couple seafood restaurants. We brought our own fishing boat and journeyed over to snake key andAtsena Otie Key.We walked the walking trail on the Atsena Key and to our surprise there was an old cemetary at the end of the trail. It was very interesting. We did some fishing but didn't have much luck because it was cold and not very sunny. We had a good time anyway.Christmas day we grilled some steaks on the outside grill and ate outside on the back porch. Very nice.I would highly recommend the Bonairre House. We will definately stay here again if we ever get back this way.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: It sounds like you had a good time. I am so glad that you liked the house and that you would come back and stay with us. Sorry that the fishing wasn't better for you. Next time, I will ask around and see if I can find out where the fish are bitting before you come. Thanks for taking the time to do a review( especially in this busy time of the year). Happy New Year! Rosemary

Like returning home after a long time, the Bonaire was a clean, comfortable and homey place. We were immediately comfortable in the house and loved that it felt comfortable and familar and very clean. The pictures are good but the house is even better. We brought our bikes from home which made the distance to the town center even shorter and enjoyed the back porch swing and breezes on a hot July morning. I'd highly recommend the Bonaire for those looking for a comfortable, relaxing vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for such a sweet review. This is going to sound corny....but I tell our future guest that every summer when I walk into the front door of the Bonaire House.......that I fall in love with it all over again! Glad that you liked it too. Hope you get a chance to come again. Rosemary

We rented this wonderful, quaint Florida house to celebrate our daughter's 50th birthday. So Mom, Dad, daughter and son-in law spent 3 short days at Bonaire House. Sadly, the weather was not our FL best but we still were able to fish from the dock---a few little cat fish a great visit from a giant blue heron and a rosette spoonbill plus I saw a HUGE red drum fish--not near my hook, I'm sorry to say. Took 1 day to rent a fishing pontoon but rain brought us in to eat wings and drink beer at the Pickled Pelican!! The house is so close to town, we took time to browse the unique shops and help the economy. Bonaire offers everything you need to cook in or order out to nearby food places. Comfortable furniture and great beds. WIFI is a plus. I wish I could include photos, we all had such a good time in Cedar Key!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

I cannot recommend Bonnaire enough. We have enjoyed the slick, modern accommodations of the Emerald Coast, and were in the mood for a more real and rustic experience in an authentic fishing town. Bonnaire sits in just such a charming place and backs up to a wondrous salt marsh. From the back porch, we witnessed pink spoonbills, pelicans, herons, egrets, dolphins, and even sharks. The back dock made for a fun crabbing spot. The cottage is walkable to town and delightful restaurants. A boat can be rented right across the street! Inside, we were not disappointed either. The home is immaculate with comfy beds and lovely linens. The kitchen has everything you could possible need to cook most anything. If you want an authentic, never-to-be-forgotten memory, stay at Bonnaire. We will never forget our week there and our video game-crazed twelve year old picked up a fishing pole and became a different boy!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Oh...your review makes me want to be there as quickly as possible!! My son and his friends (18 years old) and my daughter and her friends (21 years old) have been coming to Cedar Key and staying at the Bonaire House since they were very small. They always bring their Xbox, computers, etc. Very, very rarely do they even mess with anything hi-tech while they are in Cedar Key. They love all the fun, natural things. Thank you for your lovely review! Rosemary

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1995
About the owner: I was born and raised in Cedar Key, I met Dave there in 1977. We got married in the Cedar Key Episcopal Church in 1989. We reside in Austin Texas, and own and run a automotive repair shop and a body shop. We have two children that are almost adults that love to come to Cedar Key and bring their friends. Their friends usually plan to only stay one week but end up staying 3 or 4 weeks because they are having such a great time!
Why the Owner Chose Cedar Key:
We chose to buy a house in Cedar Key because we love the gulf coast, with all of its wildlife, great fishing, good seafood, and all the wonderful places to go that are nearby. The people there are so friendly. We have a lot of friends and family there. It is so different from our hectic lives in Austin. Once we get to Cedar Key, we turn off the computers, phones and any other high tech gadget we have, and start relaxing and trying to really reconnect with one another. The wonderful thing about being in Cedar Key is the time we really spend together there, the kids walk down to the City Park at the beach at night and play basketball, then come home and play board games for hours...you can hear their laughter next door. We sit out on the back porch and just swing and talk...sometime we build a fire in the fire pit and have a wiener roast. We even catch crabs off the boat dock! Over the years as I have traveled I have met so many people that have been to Cedar Key and fell in love with the area and way of life. Everyone that vacationed in Cedar Key as children told me that their fondest memories of growing up or vacationing were from when they traveled to Cedar Key. We LOVE it too!!! And can't wait to retire in Cedar Key.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It is a short walk to downtown Cedar Key's restaurants, shopping and fishing pier. We are directly across from the Cedar Key Marina where you can get all of your boating and fishing supplies. Enjoy the boat dock behind the house, it has a deck area that is great for watching the eastern sunrises. Bikes, kayaks, golf cart rentals, boat tours are all within walking distant. The fishing is terrific and so is the bird watching!! You can fish right behind our house and catch redfish. It is so beautiful out around the other islands. We go almost every year and tour the Old Lighthouse on Seahorse Key. The pelicans are nesting then and when you go up in the light house you can see hundreds of momma pelicans feeding their babies. We see manatees every year out around North Key, they are fascinating whether its your first time or 10th time to see them. When we are coming in from fishing there are always dozens of porpoises that are feeding we stop and are amazed how close they will come up to the boat. You can almost touch them! You won't find a better place than Cedar Key for spectacular sunsets or sunrises!! Be sure to bring your camera! Also bring your water shoes...during the full moon when there is the Spring tide, the tide goes REALLY low, which make is perfect for walking out on the Sand Spit and collecting sand dollars. (Try not to step on them!) There are so many day trips to take near Cedar Key: Manatee and Fanning Springs, Suwanee River, Ichetucknee Springs, you will be amazed how truly beautiful...so much nature....so inexpensive!
