This week was my third time staying at Ella's, first time writing a review. Ella's is an extraordinay place to stay. It is always sparkling clean and comfortable. The new tv is great. As always, Lori and Terry are great people and make the stay extra special. You two really go the extra mile to make Ella's special. On my business travels to Grand Marais, I am always hoping that Ella's will have a vacancy. It is better than any hotel or motel that I have ever stayed at. You can't beat the price or the accomodations. I recommend any business travelers, couples, or large groups to stay here when hunting for a place to stay in Grand Marais. Everytime you walk in it is like stepping into a home away from home. It is within walking distance to everything in Grand Marais. Waking up there I feel calm and relaxed with a great nights sleep.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. We try to accommodate both business travelers and vacationers. Our goal is to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. Hope to see you again on another trip to Grand Marais.

We stayed at Ella's with 5 other couples on the first night of our tour around Lake Superior and it was awesome! Very clean, great location to walk right downtown and easy to find when we got there. We had plenty of space for all of us and they let us park our motorcycles in the back alley to get them off the street. We walked to town to pick up groceries, came back to the house, lit the grill and hung out around the firepit the rest of the evening while the guys grilled our dinner. It was so relaxing and enjoyable!!! The house is clean and the owners were great!!! You will love this place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so very glad you enjoyed your time in Grand Marais at our inn and had a wonderful trip. We welcome bikers and do our best to accommodate any special requests. We love sharing our town with those that have never been here before! It means a lot to us that guests take the time to submit a review. Thank you and safe travels, Lori and Terry

Sorry this took so long, Lori....I would like everyone thinking about going to Grand Marais to look in at Ella's Cottage. It is close,to everything. Walking distance to the North House, Angry Trout and Java Moose. We were five girls out for a girlfriends outing and we are all still raving about the accommodations and the friendly owners. Everyone had their own room and there were three bathrooms...enough for all to share without squabbling....giggle. I am already getting pressure to return to Ella's Cottage next year. Thanks again..Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Sandi, We appreciate you taking the time to do a review. Terry and I always say that when we hear laughter and giggles, we know the guests are having a good time and feel at home during their stay. I could tell your group was having a good time. No pressure from us to return, but we would love to have you! Thanks again and hope to see you again next year. Lori & Terry

Owner info
About the owner: Owners Terry and Lori Backlund have been married since August 2007. Both have had long family histories that tie them to Grand Marais. Terry is co-founder of Sven and Ole's and current owner/broker of Backlund Realty. After a long career with General Motors, Lori finally made her move to Grand Marais. We both enjoy skiing, tennis, golf and most of all, riding our Harleys.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Marais:
Grand Marais has a unique vibe rarely found in a town of this size. Grand Marais places a premium on culture. The community's Arrowhead Center for the Arts hosts performances ranging from locally produced plays to national recording artists. The renowned North House Folk School attracts students from across the country with its curriculum of folk arts and crafts and construction skills. Founded in 1947, the Grand Marais Art Colony is the oldest art colony in the state. The Johnson Heritage post has continuous showings of works by local and regional artists.
Ella's Inn is only two to four blocks from most attractions including great dining, shopping and picturesque harbor views.
The historical significance paired with the location makes Ella's Inn the perfect place to call home while in Grand Marais.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The guests at Ella's Inn have access to all amenities of the home. A fully equipped kitchen allows guests to dine in or enjoy fresh morning coffee. Relax and share stories of the day's adventures around the outdoor fire ring while toasting marshmallows.
