Our first time to Long Island so we will be back! Our hosts in the main house next door were amazingly accommodating. Our trip was fortunate to coincide with their Cinco de Mayo party so we were able to meet some amazing locals as well as US ex-pats who have houses on the island. We found in our well-stocked kitchen fresh tomatoes and bell peppers from the on-site garden, as well as a dozen eggs and butter in the refrigerator, and plenty of condiments and spices. The king-size bed was very comfortable and with all the windows opened we did not use the AC. And at night on the front porch, the starry skies were a sight! And the dead quiet of the island at night - no motors of any kind in the distance save the rare vehicle on the Queen's Highway passing a half-mile away. My wife and I rent a rugged car and drive down almost all trails to all Atlantic beaches, and for the most part we were the only people on the beach. Ever. Lots of shells and sea glass. Then around lunch we would find the nearest local eatery for some great Bahamian food. We would generally be home at night for our meal, then take a dip in the warm water of the quiet-side beach a short walk from the house. There can be no more relaxing vacation than the Out Islands. The relatively central location of the Cottage at Palmirage made this trip possible. The fact that the owners literally constructed this house themselves assured attention to detail and great maintenance. And the wifi was strong due to a new signal booster, so we could keep up with home.

We would recommend this little cottage to any couple looking for an off-the-beaten-path getaway. It is perfect in every way ... well built, comfortable, and a five minute walk to a great beach. Sara and Dan can offer all sorts of advice about where to explore on the island, but if you are looking to relax, you won't have to leave their little street. The bikes, snorkeling gear, beach chairs and sea kayak are huge bonuses. We look forward to returning again and again.

This is really an ideal place from which to explore this rustic and remote island, since it is located right in the middle point of the long highway that connects the north to the south. It is also merely a short walk from a beautiful sandy beach with tranquil waters. The house is equipped with everything one might need, and it is attractively arranged. What's more, our hostess Sara was so proactive in making arrangements for airport pick-up, car rental, and scuba diving all in advance for us. She and her husband are very personable and even invited us to tag along to one of their favorite seaside restaurants, where we had the opportunity to meet and mingle with so many friendly locals. They also allowed us access to many of their own resources: bikes, wetsuits, snorkeling gear, beach chairs, and so on. They really treated us as friends. All told, their guest house and everything that comes with it adds up to a terrific value and a great experience!

Owner response: It was so great having you here too! We already felt like you were friends coming to visit by the time you arrived, thank you for taking the time before your trip to chat about what you were interested in, as I really enjoyed helping to make sure your trip was all you were hoping it would be!! Looking forward to having you back again! -Sara, Dan and Bambi!

I just spent a week at the cottage @ Palmirage and have nothing but positive things to say! The owners Dan and Sara made sure that we had everything we needed. They even went grocery shopping for us because we arrived on the island on a Sunday when all the stores were closed. Sara was also very helpful in arranging a car rental as well. The cottage and grounds were immaculately kept and there was nothing we needed that wasn't already there, they truly have thought of everything! We had friends staying at another location 5 minutes down the road and they had to check out after 3 days because they were getting eaten alive by bugs infiltrating their living space, we did not have any such problem and were very thankful for it. If you are looking for a great place to stay while on Long Island, look no further!

came down to relax after a hectic summer in which summer vacation got shortened and to look for a potentail vacation property to buy for ourselves. Sarah was so helpful in arranging a car, telling us where to shop, directions, introducing us to some other expats to really get a feel for what "retirement" living would be like down there - we really appreciated her efforts and Dan her husband makes a mean margherita ( I can never spell that - even before I've had a few). The cottage itself was perfect - clean, well equipped, a comfy bed, and a quick walk to the beach - what more could you ask for? This is the perfect rental for a couple looking to looking to totally relax and unplug. thanks so much, we'll be back

Owner response: Thank you Cathy! It was a pleasure to have you here!! And we are so glad you fell in love with the island too. We are looking forward to seeing you both again, and helping you move in!

Great vacation. This is the place to unwind. There are virtually no day to day worries except which beach to go to; and there are plenty of them. All the restaurants cook the same foods but they each have a different slant making going to each a differet experience. Avoid Chez Pierre. It is a strange experience. It was a one-man show. The owner is the waiter, cook and bottle washer. Roxy's was the best with all local ingredients and real Bahamian charm.

Our hosts Sara and Dan were most gracious and welcoming. The cottage is tucked in a quiet and tropical setting that is well kept and inviting. Our accommodations were very clean and spacious. The kitchen was well equiped, and a washer and dryer in the unit was very convenient. Sara and Dan are very familiar with the Islands attractions and can assist with planning your adventure by providing suggestions and guidance. We were within a short walking distance to the beach, where we felt as if it was our very own private paradise. You can walk for hours without seeing another person - where else would that be possible? I would highly encourage everyone to experience the quiet beauty of this island - it was beyond our expectations and we plan return again soon!

I was fortunate to spend 10 days at the Palmirage in October of 2011. I arrived at a tiny airport where I was greeted with a cold beer and no security!! Once here, be prepared to leave the rules of mainland life behind for your stay. A short distance from the airport along the main road that runs through the island, you will find small settlements and conch shacks where island delicacies are prepared to order, but don't be in a hurry! Conch salad, fritters, fried fish, fine barbecue and even goat is commonly found on the menu! The Queens Highway is well maintained and as friendly as a road gets. With a 30mph speed limit you have plenty of time to wave to passing vehicles, but you don't want to go so fast you miss the unspoiled scenery or can get slowed down in time for the roaming herds of wild goats that appear anytime out of the dense bush. The Palmrage property is a short distance off the main road, tucked back into a lush natural setting a short walk from the beach. The architecture, decorative theme and landscaping is appropriately island influenced and a compliment to the natural surroundings. The area is quiet and undeveloped, so do not expect to hear any noise. Just the sound of the afternoon breeze rustling the leaves or Bambi, the family dog, announcing the arrival of happy hour guests. Inside the guest house the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Light fills the room, yet is airy to capture the cooling breezes. The fixtures and appliances are modern and the house is kept immaculately. The bed is comfy and you are set for a great night of deep sleep after a day of fun at the beach. Just a 5 minute walk down the road leads you to a long beach with much to offer. Sandy, rocks in some spots, but great for a long walk, shell collecting, snorkeling, lobstering and spearfishing. I had no trouble bringing back something for lunch or dinner from the crystal clear waters that see few people. The character of the island is historical, quaint and scenic. The people are welcoming and friendly and take pride in their communities and way of life. The local eateries offer a wide variety of island and American foods. Happy hour is a social sport and there are plenty of great places to meet some characters, share conch fritters and watch the sun sink into the ocean. The beaches and waters from North to South each offer different views and treasures. This is the ultimate getaway to celebrate your love of the sun, beach and ocean!

STAYED AT PALMIRAGE FOR A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AND HAD THE MOST FANTASTIC TIME. THE LANDSCAPING WAS VERY TROPICAL AND THE GUEST HOUSE WAS NEW AND VERY WELL BUILT WITH PRIVACY. NO LOUD NOISES FROM THE NEXT ROOM AS YOU WOULD FIND IN HOTELS. THE BEACH HAD CLEAR, BLUE WARM WATER WITH NO PEDDLERS BOTHERING YOU AND THE MOST GORGEOUS SUNSETS. THE OWNERS WERE MOST ACCOMMODATING. I WOULD COME BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SHANGRA LA TO EVERYONE.

We've stayed at The Cottage at Palmirage and would love to again. The accommodations are funky and fabulous...everything you need for a most relaxing time. You're only steps to a most fabulous beach, but there is total relaxation right out front, too. Shops are convenient, as are restaurants and bars, if you don't feel like cooking in the wonderful kitchen. Your hosts, Sara and Dan, are very accommodating and do all they can to make your stay a real visit to Paradise!

Just flying into a small airport from a large airport in Florida was exciting as the weather was outstanding and the view from up high was totaly great. Sara and Dan welcomed us to Long Island with Bambi the beach dog for a great ride to the property. The house was better then home and there is to much to see and do for one visit even though we were there for two weeks. Along with Sara and Dan we met people that have lived on the island for all their life and had very interesting stories to tell. The guest house is just the beginning of the great time we had. The sights, sounds and smells of this island can not be described. Next time I will go fishing there, photograph more and can't wait for a chance to get back. Our hosts were like family, ask them............ PS I can not say enough of the food that was available and so many places that served conch in so many ways.

my husband and I had the opportunity to rent this quaint cottage in Oct 2009 and loved it so much stayed for 2- 6 month winters! The short walk to the white sand 3+mile private beach allowed for many awesome sunsets. Many beautiful other beaches are just 10+ minutes drive away! The cottage is nicely furnished for a cozy vacation with everything you need to relax and enjoy the island life. Dan and Sara are close by in the main house however the "beach" in between the 2 houses give a cute privacy area. AND WHAT NEIGHBORS/LANDLORDS TO HAVE!!!!! Long Island is a wonderful island and living in this cottage makes it all complete!

Sara and Dan are a pleasure to have as neighbors. We had fresh baked bagels and muffins waiting. The cottage is clean, cozy and we liked being included, when we wanted to be, in the island life. Such a variety of beaches on the island, to walk, swim and treasure hunt. So nice to shop in the family businesses. I have stayed there twice and look forward to return trips.
