Location: Newport, Central Coast, Oregon, USA View Map

Accommodations:  2 Beach Cottages (Duplex), 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

AFFORDABLE Private Beach Access, beautifully appointed, single story cottage located among just seven cottages with private beach access! Once a part of an historical vacation site 'Anchorage Cottages Resort', this cottage was a highly desired destination by writers and artists seeking inspiration. Now updated and remodeled...our cottage is ideal for young couples starting out and seniors on fixed incomes.

The PRIVATE TRAIL to the beach is fairly steep with natural erosions, and not a state park or hotel trail, and is not recommended for anyone not physically fit. However, access to a 'viewing seat' half way down the trail is an easy walk for anyone who would just like to watch the waves and enjoy the sunset. Maybe glimpse a gray whale or American bald eagle flying overhead.

Our cottages are located on a narrow strand between Highway 101 and the Pacific Ocean, near mile marker 136 in the less congested area of northern Newport. If you are sensitive to either road or ocean surf noise our cottages may not be for you due to their proximity to both.

From your private beach, view the Yaquina Head Lighthouse still guiding our local and active Fishing Fleet into safe Bay harbor. Because private direct beach 'access' is not easily available for most lodging options in Newport, our private beach is pristine, offers active tidepools and is 'perfect' for photo opportunities if you are up to a trail less traveled and non-commercial.

Only two cottages of seven are allowed to be rented in this small, peaceful courtyard.

Marvel when you spot one of our year round 450 resident gray whales blowing in the distance. Witness the awesome power of our Northwest Pacific Storms in winter months for a humbling lifetime experience. Put yourself into the history of two Lighthouses open to the public in Newport. Visit the Bay Front or Nye Beach for grumbling sea lions, shopping botiques and amazing art galleries. Newport is home to many incredible local artists!

After a busy day, come home to your little "home away from home" you'll enjoy "coastal living" much like the many famous artists and writers who came before you. Dine out, or prepare your 'catch of the day' your way in our full kitchen or outside bar be que! You'll often find local Fishermen selling their 'catch' off the Docks on the Bayfront.YOU can go crabbing for your own catch of the day. We have a crab net on site for your use! Fly a KITE! We've made a kite available on site too and use our beach toys for the kids!

Comb the beaches, collect agates, take photos like a pro...take a tour of the Marine Hatfield Science Center, one of the Top ten Ocean/Climate Research Centers in the World and access to current explorations at the visitors center is interesting AND free! Visit our old fashioned Saturday Market for fresh veggies, fruit and goodies! Live entertainment abounds!

It's an experience of self reliance, self responsibility and old fashioned courtesy for the next guest sustained by an honor system no one else offers anywhere anymore.

If you love the mountains and big trees AND the sea shore...and you would like to experience them without the herded masses...you will love picture postcard Newport!

Our CLEANING POLICY is 'simple'. Please leave the cottage as you found it. Until recently, we never had a problem with our guests understanding and complying with this courtesy! We have embraced an "honor system" for our guests care of the cottage that we hope is still alive in our world. It is extremely important to us that your lodging cost in Newport is kept LOW so fewer families are excluded from the Newport vacation experience.

A LOWER COST vacation opportunity in exchange for guests willing to clean up behind themselves is a win win in our book!

If you wish to forego your cleaning deposit, we will be happy to accomodate you, but we still don't anticipate anyone leaving an awful mess or smoking inside our cottages. The cost to cure these events well exceeds the cleaning deposit we ask and we surely do not want to raise our rates and/or deposits for everyone else because of the lack of courtesy from the very few. Smoking outside the cottage is allowed and a small outside deck with chairs is available for your use too.

Our cottages offer extraordinary VALUE for the dollar, and keeping it that way for our guests and their children and families is our primary goal. If you have special needs, let us know...often we can accomodate them with no additional cost to you.

We want you and your family to have the best vacation ever, and still have a few dollars left over for all the amazing activities you may want to enjoy instead of paying a lot of money for lodging and eating out at every meal.

We only have one beach cottage, we are not running a business or property management organization or five star hotel with room service and instant reservations. There are many of them available in Newport if that is more of what you are seeking.

We welcome you to a a clean, comfortable, beautifully appointed and well stocked cottage...with private beach access.

From our 'family' to yours...

WELCOME TO NEWPORT!

Private Beach Access - Newport, Oregon Cottage

Year Purchased: 2002

Why the Owner Chose Newport

Newport is a vacation destination for more than 3.5 million visitors a year, and for good reason. It is rich in cultural and visual arts, and stil boasts a wealth of local artists. We love seafood and Newport still has an active fishing fleet so seafood from the 'wild' is still available here. In Newport, one can be as active and busy as they want, or just kick back and relax. It also offers close proximity to shopping and excellent medical resources. Of course, the pristine beaches and parks and wonderful, friendly people give us great cause for thanks too.

The Unique Benefits at this 2 Beach Cottages (Duplex)

Private Beach access, and our tidepools, even if only suitable for the more athletic (the trail to the beach is steep and natural, not like a State park!) is hard to come by anywhere near this price, a full cooking kitchenm inside laundry and cable television is great for families on a budget. We also have an honor system with our guests that has worked for us and our guests for many years. We have only been disappointed twice in nearly four years! Welcome to Newport.."the Friendliest"!

Owner's Map of Newport

The beach house was our 'second home' until we made Newport our permanent home. When we found our ranch nearby we kept the beach house so our friends, adult children and grandchildren could visit more often. As we made friends in our area, we offered the beach house for the most affordable price we could for their friends and family. We had many appreciative guests and decided to open up our cottage so others could enjoy a vacation without breaking the bank. The full kitchen offers the option of eating in and with affordable lodging, people have more money to spend having fun.
It makes us happy to provide this little 'home away from home' for others.

    • This was the Best place to stay, with kids. Wendy was so helpful and even provided us with crabbing pots! What motel does that!!! the Cottage was perfect, everything one would need was stocked. Just fantastic!!!! Wendy was such a Happy person, and gave us pointers on fun things to do. We stayed in August of 2008, and always before would stay at a motel on the Beach. We've stayed at Lincoln City for the last 20 Years, ans this was by far the most peaceful and friendly area. And Linda Palmer was a SAINT, all the questions she answered before we arrived. Thanks again The Wades

    • Hello Palmer family, My dear friends Todd and Cheryl Telow turned me on to your place. My girlfriend and I came up there and found the place to be a wonderful suprise. We were told that it was a great place but was not sure what we would find as we had never been to the Oregon coast. Your accomadations were just what we needed for a weekend away. The kitchen came in really handy as we did not have a lot of money to spend. Everything was there that we needed and Wendy was just a phone call away. So I just wanted to say thank you and see you again soon. Josh Shur Post Falls, ID

    • Dearest, Linda, Allen & Wendy My world is pleasently busy and our home is occuplied by many visitors, family and friends. There are times, that our home just is'nt big enough for everyone. Therefore, because of the low rate and wonderful setting, we have been able to obtain a night or two at the beach house. All of our guest have enjoyed their stay and the kindness of the owners. One of the more difficult choices of travel is finding a place that is clean, comfortable and peaceful. Your beach house, is just that for us and our guest. Our family gathered there for dinner, music and laughter. The traffic noice is at minimum to the point where you we could still hear the waves below. When we laughed outloud, we did not have to worry about upsetting anyone. It was so nice to be away from home and yet feel that we never left. I truly thank you for your kindness, generosity and that at home feeling that we get each time we have guest who need a GREAT place to stay in Newport. Love and Respect Christine Lawrence

    • I have stayed in both of these beach houses and I loved them both. They were cozy and comfortable, with all the things you would need. I love being close enough to walk to the ocean and enjoy the sounds of the waves, but I also like having quick easy access to the highway to go into Newport or any other attraction the Oregon coast has to offer. If you are looking for a cute cozy affordable spot to stay this is perfect for you.

    • I have stayed at this Ocean Front cottage on several occasions over the years. My most recent stay of in July of this year. I always look forward to the experience. I love the décor, the views, the comfort, and the sense of peace I feel when I am there. I understand some people have recently felt they were mislead or otherwise did not have a good experience at Linda’s cottage. I feel that is very unfortunate, because I have always had a great experience while staying there. The location of the cottage is very convenient. If you are traveling to or through Newport Oregon, you will notice there are many wonderful sites, parks, beaches, ocean research centers and on and on, to explore and experience. Linda’s rental is very close to all of these great sites of interest. This is a privately owned ocean view rental. The owners are not hotel owners; they do not have cleaning personnel on staff. Part of the rental agreement is that you clean up after yourself. It is conceivable, that some past guest’s did not think to clean the lint trap of the dryer. Unfortunate, maybe inconvenient, but certainly not a show stopping event in my view. The beach access trail is fun to venture down but is a bit of a challenge. I have never really been bothered by the road noise myself. It just sounded like a low and distant background muffle from time to time. But enough of this talk regarding unhappy travelers. As a former Federal Agent, I have traveled throughout this country many times over and have stayed at literally hundreds of hotels over the years. Dollar for dollar, I truly believe this rental to be of Great Value. It’s fun and can house several people. I believe this makes it especially fun and convenient for couples and those traveling with children. You can cook your own meals our just drive down the street and eat at a wonderful restaurant. I would strongly encourage anyone who is visiting Newport Oregon, people who like to find great deals, those of us who enjoy a nice and peaceful atmosphere, to contact Linda Palmer and stay at her wonderful rental.

    • Linda & Allen, thank you so much for renting the Beach Cabin to us for our "newley wed's" to Honeymoon at. They were totally suprised and so greatful to have such a wonderful place to be, and to begin their new life togeather. They have wonderful pictures on them on the private beach, them "hiking" and helping each other down to the beach (kids can do anything). They loved evenings sitting on the bench viewing the ocean. They enjoyed all the movies, the cooking facilities, and the cozy cabin. They are looking forward to returning for a stay on their aniversary. Thank you for helping them make such a wonderful start to their new life. What a wonderful "gift" you gave all of us. It was more wonderful than I could have hoped for. You and the "cabin" will be remembered always. God Bless you, for your caring and kindness for others. We would never had been able to provide this suprise honeymoon for our kids withour your generosity. V.Lander

    • Had a wonderful time at the cottage. The walk to the beach was filled with the aroma of berries and other wonderful and interesting vegetation. The beach was truly an isolated and private piece of heaven along the Oregon Coast. We saw a couple of other folks hiking the beach, but other than that, it was secluded. The sunsets from the bench and the views from the crest of the hill are truly memorable. Thanks for a great place to stay.

    • My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages two summers ago and truly enjoyed it. We found it not only accessible to the beach, but easily accessible to the highway for travel to any of the many interesting points of interest in the area, Honestly, we did not experience traffic noise at all, but perhaps we are heavier sleepers than most. The truth is that after the full days we put in there, we were probably dead tired when bed time finally arrived. As far as the cleanliness/tidiness of the cottage, you couldn't have asked for better. There was even food in the freezer and the cupboards! Of course we replaced everything we ate, but we did take the liberty of eating a few thing (LOL)! As we would if we were visiting personal friends, we found it no trouble at all to wash our dishes, linens, etc., and make sure it was swept and as tidy as it was when we arrived. All in all, we have absolutely no complaints. The beach may not have been as accessible as in other locations, but we took our beach walks at the "other locations"! It worked out beautifully! Thank you Linda and Allen! Hope you keep the place long enough for us to enjoy another visit. Patti and Bruce Hughes

    • My wife and I have stayed at the beach house a couple times now in the past but failed to take time to leave any feedback in the past. We do, however, check periodically to see what, if anything, is new or changed with the beach "getaway" and couldn't help but notice a couple negatives recently. We understand what it takes to keep up something as this nature for others to be able to use and enjoy. Therefore, we felt it only right to leave a little feedback of our own since we have surely earned the right and would like to share our own view a little. You're at the coast,,,,,,it isn't expected, to us, to have a paved way to where ever you decide to trek or explore. To me, that includes checking out the beach. The owners can't predict what mother nature might do or change to the surroundings and that includes the path to the beach. Yes, when we were there the steps still existed (somewhat). But, the typical coast weather decided it shouldn't be there so, gone. And, with the abundance of other amentities the cabin offers, it seems to me that the steps/access just isn't really important. But, we didn't expect an escalator. What you do have, reguardless, is an awesome view of the sunsets and the ocean/beach below when standing and looking out. Easy access to town and many other shops, etc. And the facilities? Sure, there is a little clean up at the end but if you take care of the place while there as you would undoubtly your own home then it should be minimal. And just try to find the amenities this cabin offers for even close to what the nightly cost is here. Not going to happen. When you use the dryer, check the lint trap as you would your own at home. When you take a shower, be careful as you would at home. The traffic noise is certainly not "unbearable". You expect, when away from your daily habitat, that anything out of the "norm" is going to catch your attention. It's human nature. The beach/ocean noise? My gosh, isn't that part of what one goes to the coast for? Anyhow, for what it's worth, that is our take and not sure if it would be considered "positive" or what but since it surely isn't negative then I am marking positive. Thanks so much Linda and Allen for all the good times at the beach and, we WILL be back.

    • I have stayed at the cottage in April 2008. As a writer, this is a great environment to just take the elements in...the mist, smell of the sea and all the romantic air of staying at a cozy cottage. For some people, all they see is what's missing; as an artist, I see the special Oregon palette - what Newport is well known for. I loved my stay, especially the wonderful bed. I thought cleaning after yourself is a given, aren't we all taught that when we were young? If you want 5 star service, please pay the 5 star hotel price.
