The recently restored historic Washington Melson House, located at 206 Locust St. is a recently restored 2 bedroom vacation cottage that is a short walk from all museums, parks, restaurants, churches and shops in St. Michaels!

The house was built around 1840 by Washington Melson, a sailor, believed to be one of two individuals who voted for Abraham Lincoln in the presidential election of 1860. The house was originally built at only 16 feet wide but enlarged to the current width soon thereafter.

The first floor of the original portion of the Melson House includes a living room and a dining room. To the rear of the original house on the first floor is a kitchen area which opens up by French doors to an outdoor patio. Also connected to the kitchen is a large family room with a queen sleep sofa. There is a half bath off the family room.

The second floor of the original portion of the Melson house is a large bedroom having two twin beds. The second floor to the rear of the house (accessed by a different staircase than that in the original portion), contains the master bedroom having a queen size bed. There is a full bathroom off this bedroom.

We are planning to relocate to St. Michael's and needed a place to rent for a month to reacclimate ourselves to this area. The Melson House was the perfect place. We rarely used our car because of the convenient proximity to Talbot St. (main st). With beautiful sunsets on the Harbor and church bells on the hour we enjoyed our stay immensely. The accomodations were adequate in every respect. We will return.

Three of us stayed here in October and the cottage is lovely, with lots of character details. The older part of the house where you can eat breakfast or other meals, is authentic and very charming. We felt lucky to have foind a place like this! The kitchen has new appliances and is adequately stocked for vacation cooking. We liked how the house is divided in two halves, with a comfortable living room and the large master bedroom and bath on one side, and the older part with twin bedroom upstairs. We were with my father in law, and this gave us privacy, which would also be great fro 2 couples or a family. We took our own linens but the bed linens are all newer and fresh and very nice, so we won't take bed linens next time. .The location can't be beat, 1/2 block to the park at the harbor, and a few shirt blocks to museum area and shopping street. Because it was off season, we were able to do a weekend stay, and that was great. We would definitely stay here again.

One of the most relaxing and enjoyable times we have had! The cottage is unbelievalbly quiet, comfortable and cozy. It is beautiful inside and out, its charm hangs on you like a favorite sweater. Once we parked after arriving we never drove again until we were leaving St. Michaels. We walked to dinner and shopping and bicycled around. We enjoyed great dinners, friendly shop owners and locals. The value compared to a hotel room is beyond belief, why stay in a room when you can have an entire cottage to yourself? Well worth the money and will be returning.

This cottage is the perfect great escape. Conveniently located in the middle of quaint St Michael's close to the harbor, restaurants, and shops. The property is clean and well-maintained with beautiful landscaping. The building has been lovingly restored keeping to the historical accuracy, yet well placed modern conveniences make the stay even more enjoyable. I have visited this cottage several times and will continue to do so! A great place to gather with family and friends or a quick weekend escape to enjoy life on the shore.

We loved our stay here! My husband says it is like a diamond...the 3 C's(Clean,Convenient, and Comfortable!!) We would not hesitate to stay here again. We loved the convenience to town(no car needed), we loved the space in the house and the wonderful well equipped kitchen, and the comfort of the home. It is a real winner! We would recommend this property to anyone who has a desire to step back into time. The home is decorated in a loving way showing many colonial details. Thank you again for sharing your home with us. Right from the start you will walk into a well loved and comfortably appointed home! Ready to receive all who enter! The period antiques and amenities are well balanced, and pretty, allowing for your eye to enjoy the scenery. You will be glad to call this lovely house your home away from home! Natural light adds to the joyous feel thru-out! We are a family who loves to cook and we had such fun in this kitchen! Spent lots of time on the outside porch listening to the birds chirp! Everything is at your fingertips, but still so quiet and peaceful! We sipped coffee early each morning on a bench in the neighboring park on the corner watching the sun come up over the water, and sailboats on the bay.... enjoyed a free concert just a few steps away, walked or bicycled everywhere we wanted! Location is tops!! Everyone we met was so friendly we are planning on returning many times over! Too much to discover in just one trip. The owner was very nice to deal with, attentive to our wishes and very timely in response! The Mar-i-time museum was such a delight! Very well done!! Bicycling thru the white picket fence community with its historic homes, all very well taken care of, with mature tree lined streets, its quaint shops, and fine array of different types of restaurants, all made for a memorable time of refreshment, pleasure and relaxation.

This property is in the perfect location to explore the town and its surrounds. Walking distance to stores, shops, bars, restaurants and of course the wonderful museum. You can see the waterfront from the yard and the dock walk that takes you to some nice restaurants, bars and views is literally steps away. There is a farmers market on the corner in the park over the weekends and when we were there (June) they had Friday music in the park which was wonderful. The house is generous in size and a good layout for families or groups of friends. We used all beds and the pull out sofa and never felt crowded. There is a 1/2 bath downs stairs and 1 full shower/bath upstairs in the master bedroom which needs to be shared. There is a washer and dryer in the house, full size refrigerator and kitchen ammenities. There also is a Weber Charcol grill that is available for use. As I said above you can walk everywhere from this location including the grocery store. St Micheals is a great town, and this property is in an ideal location to explore it.

As soon as you cross into St. Michaels, roll down your windows, and begin to transition into vacation-mode, you are about to embark on a stay at a true gem of a home. Turn slowly down Willow, take in the lovely park and view of the water, at the end of the street turn onto Locust, and hear that pleasant "crunch-crunch" as your tires make first contact with the gravel drive of this delightful home in the heart of St. Michaels. Your vacation begins here. The owner of this home took great care to make this the vacation destination you will always remember. The house is comfortably decorated in keeping with the historic nature of the house. The layout of the house is ideal, thoughtfully appointed, complete with a nicely laid out kitchen containing everything you will need for your own crab-boil, right down to the crab crackers and tableware. If you don't feel like cooking, the house is so close to the town center, your steamed crabs won't be cold by the time you walk them back. This house is conveniently located steps from the center of town and the water. The entire time we were there we did not need our car. The coffee shop, library, winery, grocery store, restaurants, museums and even a bicycle rental outlet are all within a short walk. The house is clean, bright and welcoming. The owner is easy to work with and takes pride in his properties. We will definitely be booking this property again.
