Chicxulub condo description
Beautiful and spacious three bedroom condo located directly on a long, peaceful and white sand beach. Our second floor unit will welcome you with a large balcony where you can have your morning coffee, while staring at the enchanting turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Later in the day, you can have a delightful swim, and let the children play in safe, shallow and warm water, or you can lounge by the pool, with a glass of wine. The residents of the condo complex (both Mexican and North Americans) will be happy to engage you in a friendly conversation. Our complex is small and very quiet, and a caretaker and his family are always on the grounds and will assist you with any of your needs.
The condo is comfortable and airy and offers the perfect setting for the relaxing beach vacation you are after. The bedrooms all have deluxe king size beds and the floors are made of terra cotta, in true Mexican fashion. Each bedroom even has hammock hooks on the walls.

We were apprehensive about this property because of the last review. However upon arrival we found it was fine. The bedrooms are not dark and dingy, the closets are open but not dusty. There are now plenty of hangers. The beach is great, some seaweed but who cares it isn't smelly or offensive. It is a great condo and we plan on enjoying every minute of the next 5 months living in it. Susan responds very quickly to any inquiries. The pool is great, we have used it everyday and it is very safe to swim in the gulf (also very warm). I will write another review at the end of our stay but wanted to assure anyone thinking of renting this condo that it is great!

One Of The Worst Places We Have Ever Stayed In
One Of The Worst Places We Have Ever Stayed In
Firstly, the pictures bear very little resemblance to the reality of this property. The photographs shown are not even the block where the apartment is and were taken a long while ago. It is NOT a small complex and there are 6 blocks with 4 floors each. All served by a very small saltwater pool with almost no space for sun chairs etc and a tiny beach area which is covered in dirty old smelly seaweed - a VERY big problem around this area. The grounds are very tatty with any grass that was there now brown and dead. The apartment is spacious and the sitting room is airy but the sofas in the photograph are now very old, saggy and uncomfortable with nasty feeling covers on them. There is a DVD but be prepared to bring some with you as the owners have not bothered to supply any and there are no Blockbuster style rental shops in Progresso of any type. When we arrived there was not even a connected aerial for the TV to watch anything at all! That took over a week to arrange but we then had 3 Mexican channels. The bedrooms are dark and dingy with no wardrobes or drawer space, just open rails and a few dust gathering shelves. There were a total of 4 plastic hangars out of the 3 bedrooms. The bed was comfortable and looked fairly new, but, the towels and sheets were threadbare and appeared very old. Only 1 bedside lamp, we had to retrieve the only other lamp from the other bedroom and fix it with sellotape as it was broken. The 2 bathrooms were shabby and paint was peeling off the shower ceiling in one of them. BE WARNED, there is NO hot water in the kitchen for washing up dishes. We were told that is normal for the Yucatan -although we know that is not the case from previous stays- and were advised to 'fetch hot water from the bathroom for washing up'! On arrival there was NO washer/dryer and we told that it had been 'broken for months'. A new machine appeared 3 days before our departure and we had unfortunately been there for a month paying for our laundry to be washed in the town. I emailed the owners to enquire about the washing machine didn't get a reply. The agent Susan was helpful, but it was one of the worst places we have ever had the misfortune of staying in and we have traveled the world for the last 20 odd years staying in both high and low end places.

About the owner: We are a family of 4, from Canada, and have enjoyed over 20 years of wonderful trips to the Yucatan. Every time we go back, it feels like coming home to us.
Why the Owner Chose Chicxulub:
We fell in love with the Yucatan peninsula and its people, the Mayans. There is no other people as friendly, honest and welcoming as the Mayan people. Family values (your children will be warmly welcomed here), hard working, proud of their culture and fun loving, the Mayans will be happy to explain to you their ancient history. It is a truly magical place, with a truly kind people.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Peace, relaxation, beauty, nature. These are a few words that best describe the location of our condo. If you want to wake up to the sound of the waves, smell the sea, hear birds feeding over the water, and sit in the shade of our palm trees, this is the place for you. All this and more, thanks to the proximity of Merida, the capital of the Yucatan. A uniquely rich city, filled with architectural beauty and endless museums and restaurants.
