Stayed last year and just made plans to stay again in 2013- The beach is right in front of the cottage and is fairly private so we could easily keep our beach toys within view. We only used the air conditioning on very hot days because we loved hearing the sounds of the lake (not to forget the lovely clean air from the lake and forest). The two bathrooms and 3 bedrooms made it super easy for us and our children to stay comfortably. Can't wait to use the grill again on the porch- the sunsets were beautiful! The owner has been prompt in responding to our queries. The two nearest cities Grand Haven and Holland were about 15 mins by car and were easy places to spend a day sightseeing, enjoying ice cream cones or buying groceries. We were pleasantly surprised by the cottage's cleanliness and peaceful location.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

Wow. Misleading Review

I have stayed at this rental many times having an enjoyable stay each visit. I find the negative complaints posted here misleading at the least. Stairway railing is and has always been more than secure and steps are just fine. The owner has bent over backwards insuring our stay to be a pleasant one. The only problems with plumbing I have had were caused by previous renters putting things down the drain that do not belong there. That is not the owners fault, yet he pays to correct the problem. I love this place. Large enclosed screened area for dogs to enjoy. Steps to the beach? I've never had a problem with them. I am 60. The walking paths and woods is perfect for ones dogs. I occasionally see deer and vast variety of birds when walking the property. My husband is over 6' and has no problem with the restroom mentioned here. It's a lovely setting and home and encourage those considering a stay here to do so. The conveniences in this rental are plentiful. Most rentals do not have. I feel the negative poster here is either having a bad day or not being forthright/fair. I am returning Summer 2013 and cannot wait!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.
Owner response: This is a fair and forthright review of the property..Thank you

Dangerous Stairs
Dangerous Stairs

The stairs to the lake consisted mainly of cinder block with no railing, which makes the descent very dangerous. Children and seniors would be especially affected. The upstairs bathroom toilet has a separate room from the shower. It is located under the eaves and almost impossible to use if you are a normal height male. The stairs inside the house are very steep, have a very slick surface and have a railing that is attched by a single (loose) screw at the top. This, again, makes it very dangerous for anyone using the upstairs. Upon arrival, the kitchen sink was clogged and a plumber had to be called to fix it. The oven was filthy. Most of the windows had cranks that either did not work or were about to fall apart. There were no curatins or blinds on the downstairs bathroom windows, which are very close to the neighboring cottage. It purports to be "dog friendly' yet there is virtually no place to walk a dog on the property. I would not recommend staying at this property under any circumstances.Owner response: This review was filed following a charge of a cleaning fee to their returned deposit. This was the couple's second time renting the property, so obviously they did not fee it was sub-standard at the time of their return. The property is very well maintained and kept to a very high standard consistently for the 30+ years it has been available as a summer rental. The rate of return renters is very high with a loyal customer base

Our experience with the owners was very pleasant. They promptly responded to our questions while others took days to get back with us. They were flexible and willing to accomodate our requests. I'm sure future renters will likewise be very pleased.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you..

Why the Owner Chose Grand Haven:
I love beachfront living and wooded rolling dunes, this place has both. It was aquired as a summer residence and converted to a year around residence that has been my home for the last 25 years. I move to a boat in the summer season.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The beauty and serenity of your own private beach and woodlands, with easy access to the amenities of a small to medium sized community.
