Wonderful home on Washington Pond
Wonderful home on Washington Pond

This is an absolutely wonderful place. It sits right on the water, and given the absence of nearby neighbors, it affords considerable privacy. The house has been completely rebuilt, giving it all of the comforts of home. With a screened-in porch overlooking the water and windows in virtually every wall, the house has a lot of natural light and one is never far from a beautiful view. The place was large (with a very open design), spotless and very user friendly. We really liked Washington Pond, as it is large enough to offer various places to explore by canoe and kayak (the latter we borrowed from friends) but not so large as to attract big boats. On several kayak outlings, we came across an adult loon followed by offspring, and on one outing an eagle. Also, the water quality is very high. For a change of pace, we did a three-hour hike on Ragged Mountain. The trail head is on Rte. 17 (there is a sign for the "hikers' parking lot") in the direction of Rockland, and after the hike one can have a very nice meal in Camden. We would also recommend (mostly for the drive and the view) the Anchor Inn in Round Pond (ask for a table on the screened-in porch) and John's in Liberty for terrific ice cream. As is probably obvious, we highly recommend this place.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

About the owner: This property has been in the family since 1940. We grew up spending every summer here on the water's edge and love the pristine, private setting. This spring we completely renovated and expanded, preserving the light-filled charm and openness of the original cabin while creating an immaculate modern interior perfect for couples and families.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Water's edge location means a peaceful swim or canoe ride is just steps away from the house. Modern, private house plus nearby coastal attractions provide a memorable setting for family get togethers and vacations with friends.
