Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2001
Carl and Larisa got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. Larisa moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each had prior roots in WV and longed to return. They now live in Elkins just 20 minutes from the "All Get Out" riverside vacation rentals.
Why the Owner Chose Elkins
The location is ideal -- just far enough out to be immersed in the natural surroundings, but only 25 minutes from a full-service grocery store, movie theater, Davis and Elkins College, Randolph County Community Arts Center, antique shopping, and a YMCA. It is an hour from highly-rated golf or skiing. Spring and summer bring wonderful fishing, swimming, floating, and boating in the river; winter is great for cross-country skiing on the property or nearby, and alpine skiing is less than an hour's drive. Fall's foliage is not to be missed as the house is engulfed in trees and adjacent to the 1 million acre Monogahela National Forest, wonderful for hiking right out your door. Don't miss nearby Elkins to dine at a variety of restaurants, enjoy free exhibits at the Community Arts Center, and ride the scenic trains on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad. Davis and Elkins College is just 20 minutes away where you can enjoy live music and Appalachian arts at the internationally renowned 5-week long Augusta Festival. The Forest Festival every fall is a big draw, with carnival rides and almost two weeks of activities.
The Unique Benefits of this House
In 2001 Carl and Larisa were fortunate to have the opportunity to buy this lovely acreage on the banks of the Shavers Fork River from a family friend, just next door to the cabin they've owned since 1995 (VRBO #317752). Since that time they have made several improvements, while keeping the original character that the builder, a mill owner, had created in handmade wormy chestnut kitchen cabinets, exceptional stonework, and plank poplar paneling throughout. You can easily hear the creek flowing behind the house as the summer night breezes keep you cool.

we have stayed at several wkend cabins in WV and none have compared to this one in cabin cleanliness, cabin organization, cabin amenities and on-property scenery. No sneezing or allergic reaction in this cabin at all, not even from beddings, sheets, linings, towels. Very organized house. Very clean not even any other pet's fur despite being a pet friendly cabin. Very safe area with very manageable terrain for both our dogs even the small dog. Property location is prime, beautiful landscape with river behind, land infront, forest to the sides and neighbors far far away. The kitchen is full servicing great for feeling like home away from home, we are very impressed and we will be returning soon for early summer with icebox of nice food for cooking.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the cabin for 3 nights October of this year. The cabin was nice and secluded off the road a ways. There were dear in the front yard every morning. It was very well maintained and clean. New-er LED TV with satellite (though we only used it once since we were out or by the campfire outback), comfy living room, and a kitchen with everything you would need for cooking. It was nice having 2 bathrooms as well. The beds were comfy and clean. And I loved the paintings and pictures, some I think were done by Larisa. We loved being right next to the river and there were some trails near-by that we walked to. It was close to many area attractions (Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob) and less than 10 minutes from Elkins. I think the best part was how Larisa wrote a personal guide to parks, trails, food, etc in the area. We used it every day in helping plan our activities. We spent most of the day out hiking, but it was nice and relaxing coming back to the cabin at night. We had a great time and would stay there again!

Great experience! Property owner was very responsive and accommodating. It was really nice to be able to bring our dogs. They had a great time running in the field in front of the house and playing in the stream behind the house. Everything was neat and clean, beds were comfortable, and kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies.

Spent a wonderful Memorial Day weekend here. Parents plus six "twenty-somethings" immediately felt comfortable upon arrival. Lots of wood & earthtones give it a very warm feeling. Before coming we thought we would take day trips to hike Seneca Rocks and Blackwater Falls, but enjoyed being by the river so much that we never ventured past local trails! Spent the weekend sunning, reading, hiking, innertubing, looking for fossils, making s'mores, star-gazing and just enjoying each other's company. The river was an enjoyable 5 minute walk through the woods. Was possible to wade across with use of innertubes. Would bring our kayaks next time. Plenty of room for all of us and it really is lovier than the photos show. We could have easily added another 2 people. Prepared all meals there; kitchen was fairly well-stocked with equipment/utensils. It was also nice to have laundry facilities on site. Be sure to drive up to nearby Bickles Knob and climb the tower for an amazing panaramic view of the area, and check out local hiking. Larisa was very nice to work with, responding quickly to all our communications. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return ourselves!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.
