I arrived ready for a vacation and this was just the spot. The house welcomes you and comforts you all at once. The wide expansive open feeling of the house magnifies the views of the Caribbean Sea. The house wraps around the pool and patio area - perfect for sun and shade lovers. I enjoyed the outdoor speakers for the music and the comfortable seating areas for sunset views. The caretakers in residence in neighboring quarters gave me a sense of security and were enormously helpful. There is a gated driveway which also adds to the security. The location is ideal for many good restauirants right in Simpson Bay. Don't miss the French Bakeries too. I will definatly be back to continue my vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

This is the most wonderful place I have ever stayed at! It was our first time booking with VRBO.com, and I must say that this villa exceeded my expectations. We were greeted upon our arrival by Corinne and Bruno who are the caretakers. They are very warm and lovely people whom we became friends with over the week. They are extremely helpful and friendly and take great pride in caring for La Calanthe (which means Ocean Flower). We entered into the home and were greeted with the most welcoming view of the ocean. The living room opens fully to the out of doors where there is a large eating table, wet bar and various areas of seating and lounging. The pool is gorgeous and very well maintainted and it sits right against the ocean. All 3 bedrooms open onto the pool area as well. All bedrooms, bathrooms, and general rooms are very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils and whatever you think you might need. There are bath towels and beach towels provided that are changed every 2 days, linens are changed once a week. You need to bring your own soap and shampoo along with a hairdryer. If you need more housekeeping than offered, you only need ask. Also, there is a washer and dryer but it is not in the Villa. Just ask Corinne or Bruno and you may use it. The location of the villa is great as well. it is a 10 minute drive from the airport and easy to find. The little village in Simpson Bay is a short 5 minute walk where you will find a small grocery store (Peli Deli) and many restaurants. We ate a lot at Bon Appetit and enjoyed a few nights at the Red Piano. It is perfectly safe to walk around day or night. The road is not in great shape so I would avoid high heels if you are walking into town. Also, if you head down to the beach, there is a fun beach bar there with cheap drinks. Also beside the Peli Deli, there is an ATM machine. There are a number of places that do not accept credit cards so you will need to have some cash on hand. The Peli Deli carries everything including booze and it is open late. We rented a car for only 2 days. We were able to walk most places, even to the Sunset Grill which is at the base of the airport-great place to watch the planes land and take off. You can actually walk there from the beach. Go over the bridge in Simpson Bay and make your way to the beach. Follow it all the way to the end (you will come across a fun bar called Karakter which has been made from an olRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We have just returned from La Calanthe Villa in St. Maarten for a week and felt compelled to offer this review. We, along with another couple, chose La Calanthe (ocean flower) after much Villa research . When we first saw the ocean terrace, we were wowed by the stunning, panoramic view. The pictures looked very appealing and, in fact, truly understate the beauty of this roomy, immaculately kept up residence with the fresh water pool overlooking the ocean. The sandy beaches at La Vista and Buccaneer is a short walk. There are great views of the passing cruise ships when they come into Phillipsburg. We rented a car and toured the Island most days, but there is no reason to go anywhere. It is within a short walk to a nice selection of restaurants, casual beach bars, and the Hollywood Casino. (The Buccaneer beach bar has great ribs), There are 2 markets near by, the larger of the 2 probably a short drive instead of a walk, maybe 1 1/4 miles away. Across the street and near this market is Jimbo's, among others, which has an awesome happy hour. I'm only mentioning this because there is enough to do within walking distance, unlike other areas where you would have to take a car to get somewhere. You could very comfortably load up with groceries for the week and relax in the sun by the pool. The view is really beautiful, and relaxing. The gas grill was convenient as we had a cookout at sunset one evening with fresh Wahoo steaks we bought from the open air market in Marigot, open on Saturdays. It just doesn't get better than this. Corinne and Bruno, the very friendly resident caretakers next door, keep everything in top shape. We made arrangements, through the owner, to have Corinne prepare a full breakfast on the terrace for the 4 of us on the first morning as we wouldn't have been to the market yet. The entire breakfast was very fairly priced, and a great start to the week. You have many choices in Villa's in St. Maarten here. We would highly recommend La Calanthe for a quiet, relaxing getaway where you are surrounded by nature and the surf against the coral rocks directly below. You are dealing with honest people that you can trust to make this a very memorable experience. If you are looking for a spotless, quiet, oceanfront villa in a great, central location, with all the comforts of home, this is it. You will not be disappointed.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

La Calanthe Villa, located in the beautiful Pelican Key area, was certainly one of the highlights of our family’s St. Martin vacation during March 2012! The villa was perfect in every respect for our family of five (parents, 17 yo, 18 yo and 24 yo) and, undoubtedly, we will return there! This wonderful villa sits directly on the ocean and has incredible outdoor entertainment areas --- views, pool, gardens and direct access to the sea. The villa’s indoor accommodations offers first-class amenities and comfort in every room. We were also very fortunate to have become friends with our wonderful hosts, Corinne and Bruno, who focused behind-the-scenes on ensuring that our stay at La Calanthe was flawless! St. Martin fans all have their own special moments each visit and our family just cannot get enough of the island’s sunsets. Our ritual is to return from the beach, shower and then enjoy each evening’s setting sun from our villa, usually with a pinot grigio and appetizers in-hand. This vacation was no different and the daily sunsets from La Calanthe villa were just spectacular! Our 2012 St. Martin trip will be forever remembered for our family’s gatherings to watch these amazing sunsets from La Calanthe’s balcony! La Calanthe is certainly the best villa we have experienced during our eight trips to St. Martin and we will book the villa again on future trips. Please feel free to reach-out to us if you seek additional information about our La Calanthe experience.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Truly a unique place, just you, the ocean and lots of sun. We enjoyed having a private access to the sea, it's like an aquarium right below the house. Bruno and Corinne the caretakers live next door and organized a great fishing trip to dog island. No worries just fun and relaxation. BTW the house is 10min from the airport! I would recommend this place right away! S.FRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: So glad you enjoyed your stay in paradise! Olivier
