STYLISH AND ROMANTIC--GREAT LOCATION! Staying in this Frank Lloyd Wright style home will make you feel you are living your getaway in special style. Designed and built by a man who used to push off the Firefall in Yosemite, the Mountain House is a wonderful blend of simplicity and artistic style, with rock, glass and wood to set the mood. Those who love Yosemite and the mountains will love this small and unique house.
Although located near the heart of Oakhurst, the setbacks, size and location of the property make it feel remote and private, with towering trees, a seasonal creek and wildlife and birds to entertain you out the dramatic windows. Yosemite National Park entrance is only 16 miles away, so you can enjoy it's wonders during the day and return to Oakhurst to sample the variety of restaurants (ranging from 5 star to pizza), enjoy the wineries and art galleries, shopping, zip line, golf courses, historic attractions or gambling at nearby Chukchansi Casino. Bass Lake and Sierra National Forest also offer a wide range of water sports, hiking, picnicing and other recreational opportunities, and are less than 10 miles from the house.
Simple in construction and design, the house has a peaceful and unique feel that will make your stay extra special. Large windows cover one entire wall, looking out over towering oak trees and the creek. An indoor garden graces the hallway, and a rock fireplace enhances the living room. Lighting fixtures accent the rock and fine art on the walls. Natural and open, this house surprises and pleases those who spend time here.
A small but fully functional kitchen is partially open to the dining room and living room, making food preparation easy if you decide not to use one of Oakhurst's many restaurants. The master bedroom has a wonderful king sized Temperpedic bed, lovely windows and nice wooden furniture including a desk. The (very) small second bedroom has a fold out couch to make a double bed and a nice big window to let the sun shine in. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo, and is equipped with handrails for safety and ease. Wifi, 42' TV with cable reception, dvd/vcr players, games, guide books, herbs and spices, nice linens, and a new air conditioner are among the amenities here.
This house was built by a long term Yosemite National Park resident and it has stayed in the Yosemite family for 40 years. Art and photography by Yosemite artists hang on the walls, and a fabulous binder filled with local knowledge about the park and surroundings will be available to help enhance your visit.
This house is wonderful for two people, although it can sleep another couple or child in the fold out double bed in the very small second bedroom. The house is not appropriate for young children.

My family stayed for the weekend, we relaxed, watched birds from the large window of walls in the morning and enjoyed our evenings out on patio. Very peaceful and cozy, the home offered everything we needed. We also took day trip to Bass Lake, as my husband loves to fish and my son loves water...it was a short trip and look forward to staying here again!! Thanks you for opening your home to our family!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This wonderful small home was a perfect location to access Yosemite & the surrounding area while being away from the crowds. A great change of pace from staying in the valley. The house is beautiful yet simple, with all the amenities one could want. Artistic touches abound. It sits in a sweet natural environment, always with an array of birds, (especially darling quail skittering around) and deer passing just feet away, in the yard which overlooks wildflowers & oaks & a stream below. Good bed, a small but well stocked kitchen and it was so lovely looking out the huge windows to the natural garden. It's in a little "neighborhood, but it is very private and quiet. Very nearby is Bass Lake, and if it's your gig, you could even hit the casino not far away. Oakhurst is a small town, but there is exploring to be done. I would stay her again for sure. It's a perfect place for a couple!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner info
About the owner: This house was designed and built by my father, who started working in Yosemite when he was 17. My mother also worked in the park while in college, and returned with my father to have two of their three children born in the park. I have continued to live in the Park, but I inherited the house in 2010, and my husband and I have worked on it the last three years to update and recondition it. My husband Darell and I have lived and worked in Yosemite a combined total of over 70 years, so coupled with my parents, the essence of Yosemite runs deep in this house.
Why the Owner Chose Yosemite National Park:
The location of this house is a wonderful balance--in town, but quiet; near the park, but with the amenities of a city; closer to services, but with wilderness just a short distance away.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This house will provide a memorable setting for a trip to the park and foothill towns and amenities nearby. Every day is beautiful here, and all four seasons are classically represented. There is something for everyone to do here or nearby. It is near the heart of a modest town, on the edge of a forest, on the boundary of one of the greatest parks in the world. What a great location!
