Moonset Cabin! a Slice of Heaven on Earth.
- Minimum stay:1-4 nights

- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
When Linda and I first saw Moonset Cabin, we were mesmerized by the way it said, 'come, stay and enjoy'!! Later we were to learn of its history over the past 180 years as it evolved through uses like livery stable, stagecoach stop and home to many families.
You will not find a more relaxing respite from your daily life than Moonset. If you`re looking for manmade excitement, this isn`t Moonset. It's all about relaxation and enjoying the great outdoors here. Whether it's reading a book in the hammock, drinking a cold refreshment in the tree swing, grilling out burgers and roasting marshmallows on the grill and firepit or going for a hike and wading in the crystal clear cold water of the creek.
The cabin itself pre-dates the Civil War and the main room is the one-room cabin with the more 'modern' addition built around it. Enjoy the best of both worlds!
Enjoy the babble of the mountain spring-fed creek meandering through our 8.5 acres. Pet Pat and Jane, the big Red Missouri mules which live across the road. Have a glass of wine by our firepit and gaze into the brightest starlit sky anywhere as crickets and whipoorwills sing their nightsongs. If you are seeking a recharge and need a getaway, come to Moonset ! 'Come, stay and enjoy'...

We stayed on a weekend in April. It was one of the best, most relaxing, weekends we have spent in a long time. The cabin is beautiful, rustic and chic. We enjoyed feeding the mules every evening and every morning. Funny, we bought the treats for the mules, however I think feeding them was more of a treat for us! My friend left a bag at the cabin. Randy contacted the housekeeper and arranged for the shipment of the bag back to us. I cannot say enough about these owners and their cabin. No internet and cell phone was fantastic for a change. We plan on being back in the fall, and we all hope to retire to this community. Thank you again for sharing your home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

"Our Soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence our mind." This is exactly what Moon Set Cabin did for me. and my family. We rediscovered horseshoes can be extremely competetive. Don't go in the kitchen when your sister is practicing her RUStY dart skills. No cell-phone service is a blessing. Moon Set takes away the feelings of "over-whelmed, fed up, and facing obstacles that are stacked against you. Here, you talk to one another, not at one another, both the young and old. You snuggle with your nephew in the hammock, because for once he can't be the GAMER he is at home. You cook, build fires in the pit, sit .... and everyone takes a deep breath and thinks about the good things that are in their lives right now.I RECOMMEND THIS FOR EVERYONE! We only regretted the clouds covered the stars, because from growing up in the country, I know they are amazing when the lights of the city don't haze them. Look out Linda, we are coming back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are always happy when guests feel exactly the way we do about Moonset! So glad you had great family fun! Please do visit again!

This was one of the best vacations I have had with my kids! This place is in the middle of no where. Creek right behind the house with nature everywhere! The house was spotless clean and had lots of luxuries. There was alot of adventure right near by that was inexpensive. This place really catered to family. We loved it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Nice relaxing, serene spot. Had everything that we needed. The only problem was we were told check in was any time after 12:00 Noon. We arrived just before noon and the cleaning lady was still there, and informed us that check in was 4:00 PM. which I think should be posted in the listing.Did you find this review helpful? My family had a really nice time at Moonset Cabin, It is beautiful there, inside and out, quiet, no cell or internet, loved the yard, the hammock, the creek (which is a little hard to find), the house is comfortably furnished and pretty well had what we needed, but it does have it's ups and downs, literally and figuratively. If you have any trouble with steps, this is not the house for you. I found it to be good exercise, but my sister has nerve damage in her leg and a bad back and didn't find it so great. When you come in the front door, you can go right and step up into the MBR (2 steps), go left and step up into the single bathroom, go straight and step up into the kitchen. From the kitchen you can go up 2 steps to the living room/bedroom (the full bed is in the living room) and beyond that is the other bedroom, or you can go left and step down to the sunroom/bedroom. The kitchen is tiny but serviceable. Unfortunately, the microwave was not working while we were there, but it was no big deal, we didn't really need it. Our biggest complaint was that the AC is only two small window units which do not cool the whole house. If you can't tolerate the heat, this house would be best as a spring, fall or winter rental for you. There are a few ceiling fans and also a floor fan as well to help with the heat, but when it's pushing 100 degrees, it just wasn't quite enough. We also really enjoyed the board games that were at the house, and even ended up buying our own "Last Word" game to play at home! And the satellite tv works great! And if you have someone in your party who has bad asthma, this may not be the house for you as there were mouse droppings on the fridge and mold in the shower. My daugther-in-law who is asthmatic and has sever allergies to mold and rodents and wouldn't not have been able to stay there, but it wasn't an issue for us. Just a word of caution. Oh, also, bring the Off or Cutters if you plan to traipse about outdoors, as there are ticks and chiggers, but that's just part of the great outdoors!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Yes, there are ticks and chiggers in this beautiful country setting. We were there 2 days after these guests left and the microwave was working and we have cable tv, not satellite. We also have 4 ceiling fans throughout this small cabin. Our diligent housekeeper has been made aware of any droppings etc. and the shower has been addressed. We appreciate constructive input but this is a rustic pre-civil war cabin. Welcome to Moonset!

Our week long stay was exactly what we expected, wanted and enjoyed. The cabin and property were found to be true to representation as on the rental site. There was plenty of room for our 5 adults, 3 kids and 2 furkids to be comfortable. When Randy says " everything " is included he wasn't kidding, I was amazed. We all enjoyed visiting Pat & Jane, the prettiest mules I've ever seen. The kids and dogs had lots of fun exploring the area, in fact AbbyGirl & Boo-Bandit have been very depressed since our departure, poor babies. Having had family living in town we had our own local tour guide so we visited Cumberland Caverns, Falls Creek Falls State Park, Short Mountain Moonshine Distillery and Jack Daniels Distillery and village, all wonderful experiences. Our downtime spent at the cabin was absolute perfection; morning coffee on the swing, cooking all our meals outside, relaxed reading in the hammock and the nightly gathering around the firepit. Negatives are few and all but one out of the control of Randy & Linda. There was no creek stompin for us as we arrived during a month long dry spell and it was stone dry, maybe next time. Watch out for the large variety of aggressive bees, ouch! Inside of the cabin could have been given a little more attention to cleaning, some "things" had been there awhile. However, coming from a lifetime of camping it really wasn't a big deal. We would liked to have had a waterhose available for use around the firepit if needed, safety first. I can't say enough about our truly wonderful time spent at Moonset Cabin, in fact we hope to make it an annual event for the family. I highly recommend it for absolutely anyone! Thank you so much Randy & Linda and God Bless. Moonset was a piece of heaven for our family. We had such a wonderful time exploring the area around the cabin as well as the Cumberland Caves and Fall Creek Falls State Park. Both parks are a must see if you are staying at Moonset. The cabin itself was perfect for our group - 2 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs. There was plenty of space for all. We had the a/c on at the beginning of the trip and had to turn on the gas fireplace that last day. Just lovely. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows and looking at the stars at night. So quiet out there you could here the owls and the bats. Very cool! We would recommend this cabin to anyone looking to be away from it all. 5 stars from us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family plus chocolate lab stayed at Moonset this past weekend, and we couldn't have asked for more! The cabin is quaint, equipped with everything you need, and was spacious for the 6 of us and our pup. Whether walking by the stream, hanging by the firepit, or playing horseshoes, we were all taken with the charm of Moonset. Actually, my sister's boyfriend thought it was so perfect, he proposed to her! Such a lovely weekend, and we hope to visit again!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

About the owner: Linda retired from teaching special Ed. for 33 years and Randy has been in packaging sales for 40 years. We live in Nashville and visit Moonset as often as possible with our dogs Emily and Jackson! Our Grandson and his parents enjoy spending long weekends at Moonset. We play golf on the mountain course, Collins River, only a few miles away on Hwy 8. Hiking and viewing abundant wildflowers and wildlife are fave pastimes in the area. We also have VRBO#400358 , a brand new studio apartment in Nashville near all the Music City action!
Why the Owner Chose McMinnville:
I fell in love with Warren Co. many years ago. When we first spotted this cabin and acreage a few years ago, we knew it was a special place and wanted to spend lots of time there.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Solitude and Nature are the 2 things which we value most about Moonset. Away from our workaday worlds, this respite at our historic cabin and 8.5 acres will give you a fresh outlook on life. Linda would say keeping the firepit going at all hours is her favorite thing and I might say that she has become quite the firebuilder. We will keep plenty of seasoned firewood for your use and enjoyment. We also hope you enjoy the gas grill and can tell you where the thickest, best steaks can be found in McMinnville!
