Perfect for Weekend Getaway!
Perfect for Weekend Getaway!
This cabin comfortably sleeps 5, and has virtually every amenity needed, from champagne glasses to pots and pans. It has a beautiful patio with gorgeous view, perfect for wine, cheese and red sunsets among the pine trees. The cabin has a large bathroom with shower downstairs and toilet/sink combination for upstairs rooms--only complaint there was I did not find a hair dryer! It is located close to various Fair Play wineries, and not far from Placerville and Plymouth. Next time we come, we will take advantage of the BBQ and fire pit! The owner telephoned upon our arrival to assure everything was OK, and there was even a nice touch of a bottle of wine waiting for us!

Stayed here for two very peaceful and relaxing nights. The cabin was perfect-- clean and comfy, and furnished with just about everything you could ever think you'd need. We arrived at night, and Joyce had left lights on for our arrival. She'd even left the radio on, the fireplace set and eggs in the fridge for breakfast the next day! Very thoughtful and welcoming. Best part was the bed on the porch. We moved it so that we could fall asleep under the stars-- magical. Only hitch was that the propane had run out and there was no heat that night or hot water the next morning for showere. However, Joyce dealt with it right away and we had a new tank in a matter of an hour or two. (Also, it was warm enough that the lack of heat was no big deal, especially with a roaring fire going.) All in all, a fantastic stay in a peaceful, welcoming place.

Cabin is right outside of the town of Fairplay, which is maybe 25 minutes Southeast (off the top of my head) from Placerville. There are a TON of really fun wineries nearby without the stuffiness that I associate with some spots in Napa. Very scenic with tons of trees and a few swimming holes nearby. The cabin is SO CLEAN and pretty much everything we needed was in place (really nice linens, good cooking equipment, lots of books, a few board games). Great view from the HUGE deck. Very private and hardly any cars will pass by despite being only a couple miles from "civilization".

Kid friendly, pet friendly - my daughter wants to come back and husband wishes he could retire here!
My husband, 5 year-old daughter, and two small furbabies (poodle mix and havanese mix) recently stayed one week at this amazing place. Before I even describe the property and our stay, let me tell you how wonderful the owners are! Before renting, we had questions and their response was so quick (both through email and phone), literally within 30 minutes or so. As far as photos go, the only thing we would say is missing is a photo of the enclosed porch - it is beautiful. Located off of the living room, half is covered and half is open, which was perfect for those sunny days as well as for the clear nights where we all stargazed for hours. There was even a twin sized bed out there (beautiful decorative pillows, sheet and comforter), for those who wanted to sleep outside. We spent a few nights eating dinner out there as well as just reading and playing on the ipad out on that deck. The beds were super comfortable - there is an adjustable queen downstairs (not a futon) in the livingroom area. Upstairs are two bedrooms (with a half bath in the middle, separated by doors on both sides)- one with a queen and the other with a twin (in the office/library). I must say that bedding is very nice and on the higher upscale, as is most of the decor in the house. Not like some of the beds you see on VRBO which look like a million people have slept in them. The kitchen had everything you need to cook a good meal, including waffle maker, percolater, wine glasses, gas stove, full sized fridge (not to mention the 2 complimentary bottles of wine). Although the pots and pans served their purpose, I would say they will need to be replaced soon. Kitchen is stocked with spices/herbs, coffee, a ton of tea. There is a really cool shower in the downstairs bathroom as well. A wheel chair would fit in there for anybody with disabilities, and there is a ramp outside for wheelchair access as well. Plenty of towels, regular sized washer and dryer. No a/c but fans and a swamp cooler which was pretty neat. As far as cleanliness, the house was in great shape. Yes there were some cobwebs and some dust, but heck, unless you have a full time maid, most people I know have the same amount of cobwebs in their own homes! And don't forget you are out in a pine forest, not in a city with no trees or plant life. You do have to drive about 15-20 minutes to get anywhere but that didn't bother us. Thank you, we loved our stay!

A Great Escape
A Great Escape
We (family with a 2 and a half year old and two dogs) had a beautiful stay at this cabin. It was a clear calm contrast to life in the city. The peace and calm were restorative and inspiring for our dogs and daughter. The large deck was very child and pet friendly, and yes I enjoyed sleeping under the stars on the amazing and comfortable outside bed. Peter, the manager, was very responsive to any requests about the house and the area. We arranged everything very last minute. Nearby hikes for our dogs and daughter in the national forrest were great. Our first night there, we were to exhausted to cook and did not want to drive and were headed to Placerville reluctantly, when we spotted the all you can eat pizza and lobster night at Mitchell's winery. This was great! There are many activities to discover in this area. This cabin has a wonderfully comfortable vibe. We want to come back!

What a wonderful place to go to get away! Just returned from a one-night stay at this cabin, and I wish I didn't have to get back so soon. Stayed here with a group of 5 humans and 2 dogs in total, and it was a perfect place for us all. The cabin is close to hiking, wineries, and a lovely river that has many options for swimming. It was also a surprisingly easy drive from the Bay Area. Not only is the cabin very nicely situated, but it is also extremely peaceful there. I haven't experienced such quiet and ability to see a sky full of stars in a long time. The house itself is spacious, has a lovely porch (with a bed for outdoor sleeping), and a nice kitchen. The bedrooms upstairs are also quite nice, with a small restroom and additional cooling. I found it to be very clean, charming, and well maintained. I can imagine this place will also be quite lovely in the fall and winter-time. Highly recommended for a group or family trip.

Perfect Romantic Getaway with Dogs
Perfect Romantic Getaway with Dogs
A review prior to this one criticized the house for lack of cleanliness. I had already booked the house, and was a bit concerned that the romantic getaway for my husband's birthday might be compromised by unclean conditions. Whoever wrote that review needs to stay out of the mountains and at the Ritz Carlton. I have rented literally dozens of homes on VRBO, and you must take each in context. The house IS very clean. It is not spotless, nor would one expect that in a mountain house. This is a place where you can feel comfortable, not have to take your shoes off at the door. The bathrooms are very clean, the beds are clean, the kitchen is clean - if you look behind the fridge, you might find some dust, but really??? Okay, moving on. You cannot beat the view from the deck. There are lots of chairs and recliners on the deck, and, most awesomely, a bed complete with down comforter (yes, all clean!). I am a hiker/biker outdoor person, and have to say at the end of the day, lying on the bed, husband next to me in bed, dogs at our side, glass of wine in hand, watching the sun set through the trees - that was heaven. Truly - it is a breathtaking view. I cooked all meals for us while we were there, and found the kitchen had everything I needed to do so. I never do the cooking except for his birthday, so it says something that I wasn't frazzled (the air, the beauty, the well equipped kitchen, the wine? pick your met variable). The house has many interesting pieces of art and nick-knacks about. The previous writer considered it clutter, I considered it fun to look at. My husband ended up finding a book he liked and bringing it home on their borrow policy (send it back when done). The bed was extremely comfortable (did I mention CLEAN?!). We enjoyed wine tasting at many dog friendly wineries around as well. It is nothing like Napa or even Paso. Very much more approachable and GREAT wines and friendly people willing to talk about them. The whole area is very laid back and forces even Type A folks like me into a relaxed state of mind. If you have dogs, they will love it here, and the owners are completely dog friendly with none of the usual "sign 55 places, pay hundreds extra (none here) and we really wish the dogs weren't coming" type of attitude. That means a lot to us - thank you!

Peaceful & Quiet
Peaceful & Quiet
We enjoyed three nights of tranquil relaxation in the wine country. The expansive porch and outdoor bed gave us many an opportunity to watch the trees grow and listen to the woodpeckers do their work. The good part, among many other things, was the lack of a TV. I sat on the porch and read on of the many books that were at the cabin. I can't wait until we have another stay.

Considering the previous positive reviews and owner description, this cabin proved to be a disappointment. We found it to be lacking in cleanliness, (dead insects in the window tracks, food debris in the fridge/on the rolling cart by the stove, dirty table cloth on the deck table, and dirty, grimy window blinds). It also reeked of wood smoke and was overflowing with decorative items and extra furniture. A mop and bucket were at the front door when we arrived and rugs were hanging on the deck railings. The kitchen window cranks were broken and missing. The kitchen had no automatic coffee maker, the cutting knives were dull and chipped, and there was no logical order to where things were kept and no counter/shelf space to put our supplies and food. The fireplace, according to the instructions at the cabin, is essentially inoperable, and one side door had only a small, light weight slide bolt lock, similiar to a bathroom stall lock, even though the instructions mentioned they had had a break in. The only useable bathroom is downstairs but the two bedrooms are upstairs, unless you consider a bed in the corner of the living room to be your master bedroom. There is a tiny 1/2 bath upstairs that is too small for normal size adults. Light switches are hidden in unusual spots making it hard to locate and the cabin is dark downstairs, even in the daytime, so better lighting is needed. The wi fi is slow, at 0.5 mps. There is also a large gap with missing boards in the back flooring of the deck which could be dangerous, especially for children and small dogs. On a positive note, the cabin is situated close to the road, but in a quiet, isolated, and peaceful setting. It has an excellent view, both from the deck and from the cabin interior. The exterior appeared clean and well cared for. The large paned windows and the tall french doors opening to the deck are a very nice touch. There is great potential here if these highlighted issues are addressed.

Owner response: Dear Valued Guest, I was very sorry to read this review. You have raised some valid complaints and I will endeavor to correct everything that I can. I think primarily there was a failing on the part of the management and I have taken steps to fix that problem so that it does not happen again. In addition, there seems to have been a misunderstanding about the layout of the cabin and I am presently having some detailed blueprints commissioned so guests have an accurate idea about the size and capabilities of the cabin before they come. I am sorry you did not have a good experience, and thank you for addressing your concerns with us. The input is appreciated, as we would like our cabin to be comfortable for all.
My husband and I just got back from a one week stay at the cabin with our two yellow labs. We had an amazing time. We experienced every type of weather in that one week - sunshine, non-stop rain, and on our last day snow. Our dogs loved running through the meadow just below the cabin and on one of the sunny days we were able to take them out for a nice hike. The cabin itself is very comfy and cozy. I wish I could have one of the adjustable beds Julie has in the living room. The kitchen had everything we needed to make some truly amazing meals. We were able to do some wine tasting at some of the local vineyards and purchased a few bottles to bring back home. When you come here I highly recommend a bar and grub joint called Bones - great bar and amazing burgers. Two locals recommended it and we left there with very full tummies and big smiles on our faces. We love the cabin and can't wait to come back again. It is the perfect getaway - we didn't see people unless we wanted to see people. You truly feel like you are all alone out there. If you forget something at home run out of some important food itembe prepared for a short drive.

Why the Owner Chose Placerville:
This area is beautiful, cool in summer with mild winters and much less snow than at higher elevations. It is a true alpine environment without the disadvantages of long or severe winters. It is close to many wineries and to skiing but is not in a developed community and so is very private and peaceful. There are no visible neighbors.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin is spacious, with great sunsets and views but completely accessible. The trip to the cabin is spectacular in summer and winter. It is furnished with antiques, art, colorful textiles and down comforters. We want to make our guest completely comfortable. There is a completely equipped gourmet kitchen.
