Location: Gort, County Galway, Ireland, Europe (Situated between Galway City and Ennis)
Accommodations: Home, 4 Bedrooms + Den, 4 Baths (Sleeps 2-8)
New home, just outside Gort, with view of Burren mountains. Intimate enough for just two, it's comfortable for parties up to eight, private, but not isolated. Designed with the view in mind, it offers fantastic vistas from every window.
The sitting room and dining room have french doors that overlook a sloping hillside. The full kitchen is open plan, and offers complete comfort for cooking while you enjoy company. All bedrooms are fully furnished, with room for two in each. All bathrooms are fully tiled, and the one on the ground floor is wheelchair accessible.
The Burren is right before you, with hiking and pony trekking, as well as sight seeing. There are seven golf courses within an hour's drive, as well as the new Gort Golf course, less than three miles away. For those interested in history and literature, the Coole Heritage Center is just outside Gort, and Thoor Ballylee, home of W.B. Yeats, is also minutes away.
Gort, a typical small town, offers a variety of restaurants, including Italian, Chinese, and great Irish meals at the Blackthorn Restaurant. Every weekend, a farmer's market sets up in the town square, and there is a fabulous bakery for pastries and coffee or tea. There is a supermarket at the edge of town, perfect for picking up last minute groceries.
Galway and Ennis are each about half an hour's drive in either direction, with all the amenities they offer. Most major cities, including Limerick and Cork, are close enough to spend a day, then travel home before nightfall. If it's countryside you're looking for, the Coast Road and the Burren offer spectacular views for scenic drives. Fishing and boating along the Shannon River are also nearby. Kinvara is near, great for watersports! All in all, Casa Ballyhugh is the ideal starting place for vacationing in the West of Ireland.

Consider an alternative experience when you visit Ireland... You can know a lot of places just a little, or you can know one place well. Ireland is a place to fall into easy rhythmns, to get to know the stonework on walls and to recognize a neighbor's apple tart by the pie crust. My home is central to all the sights in the West. Enjoy them for the day, but come back at night to relax!
