Secluded Home Down a Country Lane, Near Beaches
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Wheel chair accessible:No
This country cape sits on a 2 ½ acres of land a quarter mile down a private country lane and is surrounded by 20 acres of open conservation land and 100 acres of woods. There are no houses in view offering absolute silence to spot deer and observe birds (hawks, bluebirds, osprey, humming birds, ..). Yet you are one mile from the Town beach and from the Town center. There is a sunny front porch for your morning coffee and a back deck for evening barbeques. We are a young Franco-American couple who enjoys a simple clean-lined aesthetic; we use the house in August. There is a well-equipped kitchen and delight in comfortable bedding all with100% cotton linens, white towels for the bath and plenty of colorful towels for the beach. There is an outdoor shower and a large airy garage with bicycles (and a dollhouse for the little kids to play with on a rainy day.)
Special things about Little Compton: The public beach is 1 mile away and a wonderful, hidden place to view the best surf in southern New England and have a picnic (Town Landing). Get your lobsters at the shop on Sakonnet Point. Best corn in the world at Walker's stand. Variety of churches in town common and old burial ground. Many fairs throughout the season. Back Eddy restaurant on the water in Westport is fabulous. Lots of places for antiques, art, and fun shopping. The best thing about LC is that it is quietly elegant. No tourist rush, although Wilbur's General Store can hop a bit in the morning when the papers come in. Similarly, the Commons Restaurant, specializing in Johnny Cakes for breakfast, gets busy on the weekends. There is a nice library (with Free internet and WIFI access) in the town square as well as an ice cream parlor.
Nearest Airport : Logan Airport, Boston MA at 75 Miles

Little Compton is a beach community without the crowds. It offers a country setting by the ocean. You can visit the winery or local farms or just ride bikes along quiet country roads. Its town beach is the only beach in the state which allows fires on the beach at night. Just stop by town hall for a permit. It is a perfect place to explore. Newport with its mansions is a short ride as well as Providence. Boston is a great day trip it's about 1 1/4 hour away.

We were unable to afford an ocean view rental. After staying here last summer we were more content to spend long days at the beach and retreat back to this house in the country. The photos listed here don't even show my favorite part... the wide open view over several wild fields and a grove of trees. No other lights. No other sounds than crickets and frogs. The house was very well kept and the beds firm. Now if some weeks in August would become available... I'll check back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

The house was perfect for our family of 6. The house was exactly as pictured in photos and described---aesthetically pleasing and ultra-clean and comfortable on the inside and lovely views of a never-ending meadow from the front porch and trees surrounding the back. We were visited by a hawk most days and greeted by bunnies in the lane--very quiet and peaceful. We had sun every day and mostly went to the local beach (just down the road) or enjoyed being lazy and reading on the porch in the afternoons, then a bike ride or walk before dinner. We treated ourselves to lobsters from the local fisherman and bought corn-on-the-cob daily from the vegetable stands. There is one little restaurant in town--the Commons - we discovered Johnny Cakes (a local breakfast pancake made of cornmeal) --the kids wanted to go every morning! An ideal home to experience a true New England summer! We can't wait to go back and make this 'our' second summer home.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
