This place was great! My family and I stayed here over New Years in 2012/2013 and it was perfect. A few blocks away from the subway, we walked back to the apartment late at night and never felt unsafe. Plenty of places to eat and get groceries around too. The owner was responsive to any inquiries. We had a slight noise issue with the bedroom heater the first night but it was resolved immediately. We have no hesitation to recommend this place! Would love to stay here again.

My daughter and I just returned from a stay in this wonderful brownstone in Hamilton Heights. Cannot tell you how much we enjoyed it, although our time there was limited - we were on the go most every minute of the day. However, it was a wonderful place to come home to each night and relive our day and get ready for our next day's adventure. We utilized the #1 subway for all our travels and couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. There were great coffee shops in the area, great little restaurants, and convenient shops for whatever we needed. We already know we will come back to New York and we WILL stay in this brownstone again. Just a fabulous experience.......Thanks, Joe!

My family was amazed at this adorable apartment and the location. It was perfect for our family of 3, one being a teen who slept on the living room sofa bed. It's nicely decorated with what looks like original art and as Joe mentions the original details. It was so nice to stay somewhere authentic to where we were rather than a hotel. There was ample space for us all. Furniture was appropriate for the space, meaning we still had room to unpack & leave some items out. The bedroom boasts delightful morning light. The bathroom is for one at a time use, but that worked out fine since we wake at different times. We so appreciated the kitchen! We would use leftovers with scrambled eggs - a cheap breakfast. But cafes are close by: one right on Broadway (I left menu) south of the apt, Cafe One near college & another on 145th going east. Not all are on google maps. Of course there's all the little convenience stores. We didn't explore too much right around the apt. since we were here to see shows & the downtown, however our walks to breakfast showed us more brownstones, folks busy on their way, and a cat we'd routinely stop to pet (corner of 142nd & Broadway). We felt very safe. Someone else mentioned ease of obtaining, so easy! Joe makes it quick to check-in (get the keys) and easy to check-out - probably easier than a hotel....no lines at front desk! AND I loved the sincerity of our house cleaner who said to be sure to call her if we needed anything. We did need a an ironing board at last moment, but improvised with the marble topped roll away island. There probably is one since the iron box is accessible, but didn't see. What more can we say.....We will be back!

My wife and I stayed here during a long weekend trip to NYC. The booking and check-in process was easy and Joe was friendly to deal with, although we never met him. We had lots of room for the 2 of us and the apartment, and especially the kitchen, had everything that we needed to make our stay comfortable. The location is great, in a very nice residential neighborhood. 2 subway stations were just a few blocks away, but we took bus #5 into downtown several times and enjoyed the sightseeing. Locals who were riding the bus with us were happy to explain the various sites, parks and monuments to us. The bus stop is 1/2 block away on Broadway, along with some small grocery stores and a few quaint restaurants. We highly recommend this apartment.

I recently rented this place with my parents and sister and we had a great experience. The rental process could not have been easier and the apartment had everything we needed. Staying here reminded us of the Cosby Show house. Best part about this place was the location. Most new people to NYC want to stay midtown, but honestly, it is crowded, loud, and pricey. I love the hustle and bustle but everyone needs their rest a the end of the day, this place gave us that. It was a short walk to the 1 subway so 15-20 min to Columbus Circle. The neighborhood is mostly Dominican, which is great since Domincans are very community oriented and are always singing and dancing. the Picante Restaurant is down the street and has the best Mexican Food in NYC. The apartment was also HUGE for NYC standards and was clean, updated, and had great taste. I will would love to stay here in the future.

This was my first VRBO experience and I couldn't have been more pleased. Working with the owner was very straightforward. The unit was clean, exactly as pictured and the quality of the furnishings was nicer than I expected. The bedroom is spacious--better than most Manhattan hotels at twice the price. The rest of the unit is compact though well laid out. We hosted a home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner for 8 there and it was cozy but fun. We did have to improvise--using a wine bottle for a rolling pin to make pies--but otherwise the kitchen was very well equipped. Getting around was easy as the apartment was close to the #1 line an within an easy walk to the A,B,C, and D lines. An acquaintance warned us against walking alone at night in this area so we were careful but never felt uncomfortable. This was really an excellent find.

I stayed here in June 2011. I loved the super high ceilings, decor, and the two original fireplaces. It was very clean and homey and the owners did a good job of supplying everything that I needed. I also appreciated having the laundry available to use in the building. I was a little concerned that I would be removed from all the 'action' like Times Square, Central Park, and the museums, but was pleased to find that the subway is only 2-3 short blocks away and cabs are also running up and down Broadway non-stop. I also found the neighborhood to be very safe and interesting. Tip: if you come, try to fly in/out of LaGuardia- it is only a 20 minute cab ride from this apartment!

We just stayed at the apartment during Hurricane Irene. We were bringing our son to start his freshman year at Columbia. It was extremely comfortable for all three of us while we waited out the storm. The owner was flexible allowing us in a little early because we arrived the same day that officials closed the airport at noon. The apartment was perfect for our needs, extremely close to line 1 that took us right to Columbia University. It was also clean and neat. Everyone in the building and neighborhood were very friendly. We thought the bed was the most comfortable bed we had ever stayed in away from home. Another great part was that we didn't lose power or cable while riding out the storm, being from South Florida and having experienced many storms that was a big deal to us. I highly recommend this apartment especially if you want a real NYC experience.
