My wife and I have been renting this home for two weeks each year, for about the past 8 years. Each time we pack up, I hate to leave and I spend the rest of the year dreaming about going back. I can think of nothing more relaxing than having dinner on the deck, watching the sun set over Katama Bay, while listening to the birds and the crickets. This is a very, very peaceful part of the island. I've spent many hours in that kitchen, looking out over Katama Bay as I cook. Another great memory for me is using the outdoor shower, as it catches the morning sun. It is a very peaceful way to wake up. Bring your binoculars or a spotting scope -- we've seen herons, egrets, ospreys, deer, and thousands of tree swallows from that deck. Over the years, the owners have updated the bathrooms, the stove, and most recently the deck (which is fabulous). Bring your 4 wheel drive truck and drive out across the sand to Cape Poge Gut at night to fish for striped bass and watch the sunrise over Cape Poge Bay -- to my mind, there is no better place to be.

Our family stayed in this wonderful home in August 2012. Cynthia was kind enough to arrange for our ferry tickets in advance, which saved us much worry. We had visited Chappy last year during our trip to MV, and decide that we would try a week there. We were definitely off the beaten path with this house, and were admittedly a little nervous when the pavement ended and we had to drive on a dirt road. We were so pleased when we saw the house! It is very spacious and the view is spectacular- just like the pictures! The deck was beautiful! Everything was perfect and clean. The owner, Cynthia, helped us figure out an issue we had with the DirecTV immediately. The beach is just a short walk or even shorter bike ride from the house. Wasque Beach (closed when we were there due to erosion) and East Beach are also just a bike ride (or short car ride) away. We loved the remoteness of the home, yet the proximity to Edgartown provided us with everything we needed. We also took advantage of the offerings at the Chappaquiddick Community Center- my husband and I took a yoga class, and my kids took sailing and tennis lessons. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great place on MV.

We appreciate the kind words of our guest. They rented for the first week in July as a family vacation. We are so lucky to share our home with such wonderful people. The new deck was a huge hit since it provides an unobstructive water view, complete privacy and total peace. Sitting on the deck at sunset is a treat. The best part of the vacation is the beauty that Chappaquiddick Island offers all those who are fortunate enough to spend time there.

The house has beautiful ocean views from the upstairs spacious lounge areas and the attached deck. We could lounge on the sofas or deck chairs and just read our books, look up and see the ocean! The sunsets from the deck and the nearby walkable smaller beach area were gorgeous. The long East beach is 3 miles away, uncrowded and feels like your own very private beach, because Chappy is very private! The 3 bedrooms downstairs are comfortable and the house has very much a family home feel to it. A car is recommended. The owner was always available and very responsive via phone or email during our planning and while we were at the house. Thank you for sharing your home with us and for a wonderful time. We hope to be back!

This home is definitely a five-star all the way! The photos of this home and the views cannot capture the beauty and serenity of the location. This has to be the best place to rent on the islands. It is secluded enough for peace and quiet, but easy enough to access for you to be at the best restaurants and Edgartown in minutes. The Chappy ferry is very easy to use, and I recommend buying a discount ticket book on the ferry. East Beach at the end of Dike Road is a breathtaking spot for kayaking, birdwatching, swimming and sunbathing. You will not have to fight crowds on this beach. The water is the clearest on the islands. Waves and beach are suitable for even the youngest of children. The bike paths on Chappy are pristine, and not terribly difficult. Because of the reduced traffic on Chappy, I felt at ease allowing my three daughters to freely ride their bicycles around the island without my supervision. My daughters actually put down their iPods for once in a very long time. For days when the weather is not so cooperative, it is an easy trip into Edgartown to the cinema for a first-run film or some shopping. This home is very convenient yet private. I also recommend horseback trail riding with Esperanza Riding Company, which just opened for business this year. With regard to rental specifics, Cynthia is very easy to work with. Everything happened without a hitch. She has Steamship Authority tickets for your vehicle (at your expense) which cuts out that hassle. The property is well maintained. The deck overlooking the bay and ocean is in very nice shape, unlike many other rental properties. We enjoyed spending most evenings out there watching the sunset. We cooked at the home have the time, and went out the other evenings. All of the Oak Bluffs, Tisbury and Edgartown restaurants were super. It is hard to pick one better than the others. However, I did not enjoy Henry's Water Street at the Harborview. Over-priced and bland, but an excellent wine list.

There is a ritual that started several years ago for Christmas, and that is, I have to have a copy of a lease for Bayview on Chappy in my son's Christmas stocking. I don't believe I ever told Ms. Lally this, but it is the only gift he wants or needs, and I have to keep up the tradition, for it's THE GIFT that brings joy. Now he is married and the story remains the same. So the good news is, once again I was able to secure a week in June 2013, and now we wait and count the days--the excitement building. For him it's all about the fishing on Chappy. You can't find a gift this fabulous at Bloomingdale's. That's my short holiday story! Karen Barbieri

Owner response: Karen and her family have stayed in our Chappy home many times. Her comments are very caring. We are always happy to have people like her and her family come back each year. Our renters are all special to us and we appreciate Karen's kind words. We want the time each renter spends in our home and on Chappaquiddick to form life long good memories.

The view is great is the only positive thing I can say about this rental. We rented the propertyfor a week in May 2012 with two other couples and only stayed a few hours before we left. The house and furnishings are very dated and if you have allergies to mold and mildew you do not want to stay here. We contacted the Owner and she said she would send her cleaning person back and also returned our cleaning fee . It would have taken more than just a few hours cleaning to get the rental ready for guests so we left and found another VRBO rental that was beautiful, updated, no broken toilets seats, no mold and mildew, no broken fireplace, and comfortable bedding.

Owner response: I was sad to read Gwen's sudden write up after so much has passed since her rental date. It's not clear why she wrote what she did but if readers look at all the current reviews which are so different from this one, perhaps they will judge the property as it should be judged. It is beautifully furnished and well maintained. This person arrived at 9:30 at night and complained that there was 'no view'. The house had been cleaned and was lovely. Our feelings were, at the time, that these folks were not happy with the Island of Chappaquiddick. Chappy is an island off an island. It is peaceful, and quiet. All we can offer is miles of beaches with few people on this 6 1/2 miles paradise.

My family has been coming to Chappaquiddick annually since 1990. We have rented several houses near the Wasque Reservation, but none better than this house. When you first walk in the house the feeling of the house is one of openness and light. All of the bedrooms are on the ground floor (where you enter the house), including a large master bedroom which, through a window at one end, gives you a hint of the great views that you get from the second floor. When you go up the stairs to the large open concept living space you are struck by the tremendous view of the salt marsh below, and then Katama Bay and the ocean and Martha’s Vineyard beyond. This spacious open living area is filled with light coming in through the large windows which line two sides of the house. If you want to get an even better view (and some sun), then you can step outside and relax on the large deck. My family likes to watch birds—this is a perfect spot to do so. We get to see ocean birds, shore birds and forest birds, all in one setting. We also are within walking distance of Wasque Reservation and the beaches of Katama Bay. We also go kayaking and windsurfing on Katama Bay. In short, this place can’t be beat. We can’t wait to go back!

My husband and I were looking for a rental which would offer us the chance of a few days of peace to unwind and de-stress and we could not have found somewhere more perfect. From first contact Cynthia's email responses were quick and informative. As we are from the UK, phone contact was impractical, and the quick replies made the booking process very easy. The directions to the house were clear and accurate which is important on the island as the roads are not always obvious. As we headed closer and closer to the water on arrival we were doubting either ourselves or the instructions but sure enough a narrow road led us to the house. We were glad we were arriving in daylight! When we arrived the house was exactly as described, very clean and well maintained. The light streaming into the living area coupled with the stunning views was immediately relaxing. We had one small problem with the TV reception which I only mention for the quick way it was resolved after an email. We spent hours exploring the area, walking, for what seemed like miles, along empty beaches feeling like the only people in the world but within a few minutes drive and ferry could be enjoying great food in Edgartown. We followed Cynthia's restaurant recommendations for Newes of America, great pub food, and Chesca's which was perfect for a special meal on Easter Sunday. We also enjoyed lunch at Among the Flowers, which served the best clam chowder I have ever tasted. The only slight problem we had with visiting off season were that the ferry times were occasionally a little constricting when planning our evening meals but it was easily worked around. I would recommend the property offseason to anyone looking for the perfect place to relax and escape from the real world for a few days. We look forward to visiting again ourselves during summer months to see the difference.

We just returned home from our long planned week vacation. The home was perfect. The sun was shining everyday and we especially loved being in such a beautiful area. Having such a great home makes us willing to reserve it again for the same time next year.

Bayview is the quintessential vacation hideaway for all those who lust for the sea. If you want to slip away from all life's stresses with your family, or even find solitude, this is your dream destination. Bayview is magnifificently structured with every luxury, so that all you desire is right there for the taking. When you come upstairs for your morning coffee (for me on the deck) you are greeted with the splendor of the ocean, and you will not want to leave this comfort zone for anything except perhaps the boutiques of Edgartown. You are drawn into the landscape as if it was your own paradise, and savor every minute dreading the moment when you will leave. Because of Bayview on Chappy, I can bear the humdrum of winter in anticipation of each June at the house.
