Welcome to 'RiverWest', a little piece of 'Paradise' on the Russian River. Discover the true meaning of “on the river” with what may be the best combination of panoramic views and easy access to the Russian River. This truly is an idyllic setting! Perfect for a romantic getaway, or vacation for a the whole family.

Location:

In the redwoods, above the wide, lazy curve of water, with the tree-lined ridges fading to the west, our vacation home offers a tranquil and private setting for relaxation and that 'getaway feeling.' The north and west walls are almost entirely glass, which creates a light and open atmosphere, giving you a sense of freedom and flight as you gaze at the the osprey, gull, and heron. Through every moment of your day, you’re surrounded by this expansive view of the river and mountains that few other places have. And, when looking is not enough, step down the stairs to your private dock to use the three kayaks, or row boat to enjoy the wild, scenic lower river, from Duncans Mills to the ocean.

The home is located about a 3/4 mile from Duncans Mills, a quaint little town with coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping for art and collectables. The ocean, and all the great Sonoma Coast Beaches are about seven miles west. On hot summer days, when the rest of California is 100 degrees or more, the soothing ocean breeze cools our place into the 70-80's.

Home:

The two-story home is nested on the side of a hill overlooking the river. The 2nd. floor is 950 sq. ft. with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room and kitchen. One bedroom has a queen bed and a beautiful view of the river and mountain, and has its own 8’X16’ deck with bistro table and chairs. The view is like being on the bow of a ship at sea. The second bedroom has a bunk bed for the kids and also has double doors leading to its sunny morning deck. The bathroom has a Kohler corner shower with curved glass enclosure and a sink from France. The living/dining room is open an airy with large picture windows and doors to the deck. The remodeled kitchen has stainless steel and black granite countertops with new appliances. The 1st floor studio offers 650 sq. ft. with a bedroom, bathroom, and combined living, dining, and kitchen area. There is a comfy queen bed in the spacious bedroom that also has a 8'X16' deck outside the French doors. There is a comfortable double futon in the living room. The beautifully tiled bathroom has a separate tub and shower. The kitchen has new cabinets and appliances, and is equipped with the basic utensils and dishes for preparing your meals.

Together, both floors offer 1600 sq. ft. of living space with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and two kitchens! With the addition of the futon in the lower floor as a double bed, the house will sleep seven or eight. The floors are accessible by two sets of stairs on the outside of the house. There is no stairs inside the building from floor to floor. There are numerous decks and two terraces with patio seating. This makes a perfect setup for vacationing with Mom and Dad, extended families, or friends.
Encircling the home on two levels is 700 sq. ft. of barefoot-friendly Trex decking with bistro table and chairs. Another terrace has a Weber 2 burner gas grill and more patio seating, and a fire pit. All decking, stairs, and patio areas have railing or fencing to safeguard young children. There is no smoking allowed in the home. Sorry, pets are not allowed.

Grounds:

Beyond the decks, we have upper and lower terrace areas surrounded by the natural riparian forest - massive redwoods, maple, river willow and buckeye trees, with ferns, and sorrel beneath. We leave the vegetation in its natural state to support the redwood's ecosystem and the great variety of animal life that abounds in the area. We have no neighbors downstream; we look into the river forest as it continues to the west. Upstream, are two undeveloped lots filled with forest; so, we have great privacy and seclusion. And new for 2013, a newly installed river-rock beach, making it easy to get in and out of the kayaks for young and old.

We rented both units for a women's getaway and all six of us were very comfortable. The river had recently been very high so we didn't attempt the slide down to the dock however are definitely planning a different season stay in the future. The closeness of the ocean, restaurants, redwood parks, shopping and wine tasting made me glad we had a full week. We sat on the sofas and viewed several otter, a seal, egrets, herons, a bald eagle and numerous ducks. The units were both very clean.

Owner response: Gaylin, I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves at my place. Yes, looking out the window is almost like being in a wildlife sanctuary. And, yes, the Russian River is lazy and fun to play in during the summer, but when the river rains come, its best just to look at it from afar. Do come back from April-Nov. when the river is fine for kayaking, swimming etc.

The beauty, serenity and breath taking views of this home are impossible to capture in photos. I spent an amazing weekend here with my dear friend and our 17 yr old sons to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of their Senior year of High School. We all can't wait to return. Kayaking early mornings and evenings on the beautiful river was food for our souls. Our sons enjoyed fishing from the row boat as well. Art & Wine Festival in Bodega Bay, gorgeous sunset & cocktails at Rivers End in Jenner and shopping in charming Duncan Mills. So many more wonderful activities just a short drive away that we decided we need to stay at least a week when we return. I must say the highlight was sitting on the decks, gazing at the river with coffee or wine in hand, pure bliss... The home is immaculate, well appointed and has a very livable lay out. As a very critical house guest, I promise you will be as delighted as we were to find such a treasure. Next trip will include our whole family, as the home can easily accomadate 8 adults. Thank you Cameron for sharing your little piece of Heaven with us! Kimberly, Jody, Nick & Miko

This really is the perfect house in the perfect location. The house is immaculately maintained and equipped with everything you could want, including two kitchens (if you take both floors, which we did). The view over the river is breathtaking. The house is minutes from the nearby Duncans Mills, and a short drive from Guerneville for supermarket shopping and a few local restaurants and the beach towns of Jenner and Bodega Bay. The real attractions are a little further (Armstrong Woods, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, etc.) but still not very long drives and near enough for short half day trips. The house itself is a great attraction, with kayaks and river access that invite you to stay at home and enjoy nature. River access is a little cumbersome, but if your kids are old enough, it's not too much of a problem. We took the kayaks down river, and swam off some of the beaches there. The river is completely calm, so it's wonderful for a quiet paddle and swim. The outside space is great for BBQs and sun downers on the deck as the sun sets. I recommend visits to the wineries for some good wine purchases that can be enjoyed from Riverwest's several decks overlooking the river. The only possible down side of this house is that if you're taking both floors, make sure that your family will be able to handle not having any inside stairs. With the upstairs accommodating 4 and the downstairs 2-3, this can be a little tricky, but we worked it out. Overall, a great place for a relaxing time at the river. Highly recommended.

Beautiful house, great views, great location. The living room upstairs is the perfect place for the family to hang out, and with the really nicely set up kitchen right there, everyone's together. A few things one needs to know are: the two levels re really separate. No interior stairs or anything , so if you have small kids, might not work. But teenagers will love it! The beds are ok, a little soft ,but some people like that.. Really nice to have the kayaks as part of the deal, they're lot of fun. The only real drawback is the beach or rather, complete lack of one. There is a dock, but it is high off the water, and getting into the water isn't easy. Small kids, forget it, the stones and rocks are tough to handle. The other side is total mud, very slippery... A ladder would solve the problem, and the owner told me he is working on the water access, maybe a small beach, etc. Bathrooms are fine, lots of towels, nice and clean, etc. A nice house; the beach/ dock is really the only negative. PS. as of this writing, no wifi and no TV.... PPS. Bring bikes, it's a long (2 mile) though v pleasant walk or ride to Monte Rio

Great location on the river. Very entertaining just sitting on the deck watching the river wildlife float and fly by. A few minutes down the road are Guernville , wine country, and Armstrong Redwoods.

Amazing accomodations. Period. Under the canopy of giant redwoods, overlooking the river, watching the fog lift slowly as the sun warmed it. The entertainment and fascination of watching a seal hunting for its food was over the top. Hopefully we can find time in the schedule to get back into probably the best destination along the Sonoma Costal region. Thanks again Cameron for sharing your little piece of heaven.

I stayed here for 3 days with my best friend from England and it could not have been more perfect. First the house is immaculate, tasteful and clean. Second, Cameron the host is not only the nicest guy but an excellent tour guide. We came up last minute and from the coast to the redwoods to the top of the glorious hills he patiently explained where everything was, how to get there and what were the best places to go to see what we had come looking for. He also clued us in to the best spots to eat at. I will be back here again and again.
