Awesome holiday in Bobs Ranch. Bob couldn't have been more accommodating, if we had a query or request he sorted efficiently and promptly. The Ranch is spacious and has all the facilities you'd need. There was only 7 of us so we could have a choice of rooms per night if we wanted. Pool and spa were a good size and really easy to use and adjust. The Ranch is on multiple levels and is very spacious. My daughter took full advantage of the horse riding while she was there, and Bob graciously took here on a couple of trail rides to know where to go and see. Sum up, awesome place and we wish we could have stayed longer.

In August 2012, our family of 18 ( 2Grandparents, 4 children with spouses, 8 grandchildren) rented both the Ranch by the Sea and the adjacent Tennis Estate by the Sea. It worked out best that the 4 younger children (1 to 4) and parents stayed in the Tennis Estate and the older children (5 to 8) stayed in the Ranch Estate. However, there was easy movement between the two houses, so that all were able to enjoy all the benefits of both. Both pools were delightful. We used the pool at the Ranch (and its adjacent hot tub) mostly because it was slightly bigger and had more seating. The ranch had a smaller playhouse in the back. The Tennis Estate had an excellently-equipped lighted tennis court, along with trampoline and large children’s playhouse. At our request, Bob, the owner, graciously purchased a case of tennis balls and cart, and he had enough tennis racquets for all of the children and adults who wanted to play. On several days we brought in a tennis pro who gave lessons to both children and adults. The adjacent pool was especially handy on those days. Each house is extremely well equipped with cooking utensils and equipment. We ate dinner mainly at the Ranch because the new grill was larger and seating outdoors could accommodate all of us. Breakfast and sometimes lunch were split between the two. The Tennis estate had a widescreen TV as part of the very large kitchen and eat-in area (which also was equipped with toys of all types for the younger children). The Ranch had a pool table (and widescreen TV) and several video and real pinball machines, which provided hours of fun for the older children and adults. On top of all that, bob provided a horseback riding experience for all of the children and some adults. The facilities are outstanding, and we would have used it more, but the weather was unusually hot during most days. Under most conditions, the riding opportunities are unique and valuable for those who wish to partake. All in all, our family had a great time staying in the two houses, and we thank Bob for his gracious hospitality that provided us fun time and many memories.

Thanks to Bob for his amazing hospitality during our family reunion at his Sea Ranch House. We had an international crowd vacationing together after our son's wedding in Mission Bay. The house was perfect for us - plenty of room to mingle, relax, play and eat together in the evenings. There was plenty to do for all ages at the house - even the teenagers were happy! The views are beautiful, the location convenient for San Diego's attractions, and the house is clean and very comfortable. We cannot compliment Bob's favorite chef Alfonso enough, for his amazing Fajita Fiesta made to order for our wedding guests on Sunday. We would definitely recommend Bob's house for a large gathering.

My family is spread out across the country so we get together once a year for vacation. This year we decided to go to the west coast. We have a decent sized group that attends these vacations so we were looking for a larger house that could accommodate us comfortably and make sure everyone had enough space to breath. Boy did we find it with Ranch By The Sea. We had 6 adults and 6 children (ranging from 2 months to 6 years). Every family had a wing of the house and we still had 2 rooms left open. We could not have asked for a better location. It was 10-15 mins to the beach and close to Legoland for the kids. But to be honest we hardly left the ranch as the kids loved the pool, feeding the horses, and just running around the property. If you like getting away from it all then this place is for you. The property is quiet and all you hear is the occasional horse. Better yet I did not even realize that we had not watched a second of TV the whole week until I was on the flight home. Last but not least the owner Bob is everything everyone in the other reviews claims. He could not have been more helpful. He was there when we checked in to show us around the place. Anytime we needed something we would text him and he would be there in 10 mins. Bob and his daughter, Victoria, gave the kids horse rides which they are still talking about. Throughout the whole process he was beyond helpful. Notes -The view is spectacular and the kids loved watching the hot air balloons on the horizon at dinner every evening. -The fire pit and heaters on the patio were perfect. We spent every evening and sometimes well into the night out there. -Perfect for kids as they have plenty of space to run and games to play. -The kitchen is fully stocked. Although some of the appliances could use an update, it is a fully functional kitchen. Better yet the pantry and wine rack are stocked so you can cook just about anything without having to worry about buying spices, etc at the store. -The house's personal chef (Alfonzo) came to the house one evening and cooked for everyone. It was delicious and reasonably priced (less than going out to dinner). I highly recommend this feature as well as the personal massage therapist. -There is no need to plan outings to every theme park in San Diego. Just hang out at The Ranch and you will have a blast.

I must start with this place is is breathtaking. The estate is amazing and the pictures don't even do it justice. It is on the hill overlooking San Diego. Every night we had dinner and drinks on the patio to watch the sunset and the hot air balloons. I rented this property for a family reunion. This house has something for everyone no matter what your age. The pool and hot tub are amazing. It has plenty of seating for everyone if you want to be pool side. Also even if you don't want to be pool side you still feel like your apart of whats happening. There is a huge patio above the pool that you can easily look down to keep close eye on your kids in pool and activities. There are many games to keep the kids and who am I kidding the grown ups entertained as well. There is foosball, pool, basketball, pinball, arcade games, and more. There are many large flat screen tvs in this estate as well. To be honest there is so much to do the only time we turned the tv on was to find a music channel to play through the surround sound that goes outside on patio and swimming pool as well. I grew up in the country and now live in Los Angeles. Just another reason I love this place. You really feel like your in the country. There are horses on property with large riding arena. Bob and his daughters gave my family riding lessons. The horses are well trained and gentle. He has both ponies and horses. You can ride even if you have never ridden before or if your a trained horseback rider. If you haven ridden horse before and feel comfortable. I would suggest taking a trail ride. There has to be about 200 acres of trails that surround this amazing estate. Bob took us on a trail ride that I will never forget. We went behind the house farther up on the hill. It was one of the most amazing views I ever experienced. It was a clear day and we had panoramic views of the ocean seeing Catalina Island all the way to San Diego. It was simply breath taking. Another reason I really liked this Estate is I also love the city and everything that is has to offer. We took the kids to Legoland only 10 min drive away in Carlsbad. There are numerous beaches to experience that are very close only 10-20 min drive depending on what beaches you would like to go to. There was also plenty of shopping and places to eat in the nearby area as well. I must say I've never been somewhere where the owner is so helpful, polite, funny, and accommodating. If there was anything we needed I just text

Our family reunion at the Ranch by the Sea was a smashing success. We made many requests of the owner to accommodate our large family and on the day of our arrival every room was fresh and inviting with beds for everyone. The pool was our greatest enjoyment from dawn till dusk with kids and adults lining up for their turn at the diving board and in the evening, many enjoyed relaxing in the warmth of the jacuzzi. Horseback riding was a dream come true for kids and adults. The owner gave special attention to each rider to ensure safety and enjoyment. And there was never a dull moment in and around the house with the pool table, pin ball machine, table tennis and much more. In the evening, we would gather on the terrace for dinner taking in the magnificent view in the distant hills. As it became cooler, we enjoyed sitting and visiting by the outdoor fireplace..a perfect ending to the day. We were sorry to leave this lovely place and know that other families in the future will have the same wonderful experience. Many thanks, A happy and satisfied family

My wife and I and our friends had the pleasure of spending a weekend at The Ranch. It is a peaceful oasis seemingly far from the hustle and bustle of southern California. The property is located on a beautiful hillside, very secluded, and has a fantastic view (you can see downtown San Diego in the distance in one direction and the ocean in another). There are fruit and avocado trees, horses, and every amenity you would want. We spent time in the jacuzzi, picking and eating fruit, feeding oranges to the horses, and bbqing. Mostly we just found it a very relaxing and beautiful place to hang out with friends. But we could see it would be great for families as well. The house is large, spread out, pin ball games, ping pong, pool table, music system, fully stocked bar . . . I couldn't think of anything that was missing. Upon arrival we found all kinds of food and wine waiting for us, and the host went out of his way to show us around and explain all the features of the house. As we left my wife said, "He couldn't have been any more welcoming."

Our family of seven stayed at the Ranch by the Sea for a week in March. It was such a wonderful experience for us from our youngest guest (2) to our oldest guest (75). The property is beautiful with an amazing view to enjoy. The location of the home is so private that you really feel away from the Southern California hustle and bustle. However, you are close enough to enjoy the many attractions located in that area. We really enjoyed cooking our own meals in the gourmet kitchen. A brand new BBQ was on the property for our use as well. Our kids loved the video arcade and pinball machine. And the adults had some fun games of billards on the gorgeous pool table. Evenings were spent on the lovely outdoor deck area. The fire pit was a gathering place to relax and tell stories. What a wonderful way to wrap up our fun filled days. Many hours were enjoyed at the pool. It is a perfect spot for swimming or reading a book in the sun. There is a nice table with an umbrella to get out of the sun for lunch or a quick snack. There are also horses on the property. The owner, Bob, was so kind to take our kids riding several times during our stay. This vacation home made us feel both comfortable and pampered at the same time. My review would not be complete without huge praise for the owner, Bob. He was so accommodating at all times during our stay. He really went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right for us. If we needed information about a local attraction, he was a quick phone call or text away. Anytime we had a request, he responded right away. Bob made our vacation a most memorable experience. I highly recommend this property if you are traveling to Southern California. You and your guests will enjoy everything about this wonderful home.

I live in the US and work out of LA a large (and uncomfortable) amount of the time. I have several homes and businesses here and abroad. I may be considered a "regular guest" at the Ranch By The Sea as I have stayed in this property twice... and will return, I'm certain. My family and I have stayed all over the world in exclusive properties, some of which include private homes. I can honestly say that this particular vacation spot is one of the most comfortable and relaxing times with my family we have experienced. The accommodations were near everything we were told and met our expectations. The home itself was set up perfectly for my family. We were able to have privacy when necessary and congregate when planned. I may add that the outdoor value was important to us as we enjoy the escape from the cities we have to spend so much time in. The horse back riding, which is offered by the owner, is a fun experience for all of us and the terrain, although hilly, is quite a thrill. The weather apparently is fairly dependable and steady year round in this region. We have only had a cloudy morning or two the times we have stayed. The air is fresh and the view is a scene that matches the Italian or Grecian landscapes. The owner has a small elite cafe within a mile distance and serviced our catering to perfection. The beach is very close and a comfortable distance from the crowds. We seriously feel at home here and will be back. - Samuel Musso

The owner of the property told me our stay would be a 5 star experiance. I must say that it was closer to a 2 star. He over sold the view of the pacific ocean, which was non existant, and the condition of the home. It is very large and interesting but has a lot of deffered maintance. The heated pool was heated by a spa heater and could never get to a comfortable temperature. He charged us for the propane useage for the week we which was over more than a normal home would use in 3 months.. The home is getting run down and patched back together. It is not what the pictures show. The rent for this level of property with all of its flaws should be much lower. The worst part was the night time when we went to bed, the owner lives next door and has several large dogs that bark most of the night. Didnt get much sleep. I would not recommend this property to anyone at the current condition and level of rent.

Owner response: Normally I Don't Respond to guest reviews But I felt that I must respond as This is Obviously A Very Unhappy Person Trying To Just Hurt Our business and this review Reflects Very Poorly on Me and Our Estate. When I saw this review I called the guest and said I was Very Surprised as we had spoken 3 or 4 times while he and his family were at the estate and they hadn't mentioned Anything. I then asked him to go over his complaints. He was Very Unhappy with The $450 pool heat charge even though it is listed and we discussed this as an extra charge of $600 if pool heat is requested in winter because of nights cold temps 30s--40s degrees. He was unhappy with the built in microwave not working even though there was a big microwave on counter. He was unhappy trash compactor wasn't working. He said paint was peeling on retaining wall by pool. He told me a little gate needed a new latch and said there was paint peeling on outside door by pool. As Minor as these flaws were they have all been repainted and fixed. About The Ocean View Comment guest made, There is a View of the Ocean and Catalina Island When its Clear and not foggy, Not a Huge View, But A Good view of ocean. The Spectacular Panoramic Ocean View I Mentioned to The Guest is a 5 minute hike up the mountain behind The estates by foot or horse which the Rest of his Group Actually Saw. The Ranch Is In Very Good Shape but is A Working Ranch and things need to be taken care of regularly and We Do That. The Pictures on web site are January 2012 and represent what estate looks like. The Pool is Huge And Deep and Is heated by BIG Pool Heater Not Spa Heater. BUT when 30-40 degrees outside the Pool Water Cools off. The Jacuzzi heats to 98-102 degrees in 10 mins which I discussed with the guest a couple times during his stay. I checked pool temp on check in and twice during his stay and it was 75 degrees. As for The dogs barking we are in a Rural Country Area and from time to time dogs bark which actually works as a Great security system. In future We will put dogs in at night when we guests are at The Estate. I'm sorry about That and Would Have Taken care of it Immediately with a text or call from The Guest. We Really Do work Very Hard To Make Sure Every Guest has One Of Their Best Times Ever When Staying at Our Estate. Bob

We stayed at the house for our wedding weekend with 5 other close friend/family couples that attended the wedding (we were married at Cordiano Winery in Escondido). The house became our “wedding headquarters”. The beds are very comfortable and, we laugh, as it will take you longer than normal to figure out all the fun lights. We hosted a cocktail party at the house on Friday, catered by Bob’s restaurant Peppertree Hills, and it was the hang-out for all on the wedding day and after the wedding. The house is close to San Marcos…so it was a quick drive to Peppertree Hills Eatery and other quaint restaurants and near a grocery store. Bob was extremely helpful! For any need/question that came up, Bob was able to help us out (speaker system questions, hot tub questions, providing an iron, etc.). The house was great…it offered enough space to maintain privacy while maintaining an intimate “family” environment (some went for hikes, some sat in the hot tub, some worked out, and some watched football). The massive master suite provided a perfect location to get ready for the wedding with all the girls! Our favorite part of the weekend was the Friday night cocktail party. The Peppertree provided amazing food and service! It was relaxing not worrying about cooking or cleaning up! The house is made for entertaining with the fire pit, the gas heat lamps on the patio, pool/hot tub, and the pool table and pinball machines! Only a few items come to mind that could have made the stay ever better…some of us had issues with cell service in this area (Verizon was spotty here) and it would have been fun to have a family room where we could all sit on the couch and watch a movie or football game (granted, instead we sat in the hot tub and listened to the game over the speaker system :-) ). Overall, we had a wonderful experience here, created happy memories, and would recommend staying at this house.

Let me start with Bob, the owner. The most amazing, accommodating, easy-going concierge we've ever met! And we do travel a lot. If you're looking for a nice quiet place in a beautiful, calm, and secluded part near the Elfin Forest, if you're looking for a beautifully decorated and charming family friendly house, and if you want the best nights rest you ever got, then "Ranch-By-The-Sea" is the place to be!!! My friends and I spent most of our time outside, by the pool with trampoline, jacuzzi and fireplace at night. And to make things easier, Bob was also serving us very affordable breakfast, lunch and dinner from his nearby cafe. Love, love, love the place! Definitely coming back! P.S. And if you happen to play ping pong (which this house has, along with regulation size pool table, Star Wars pinball machine, old-school Arcade games machine, b-ball shooting game, table hockey, etc) then ask Bob to play a game or two, he is pretty darn good!

Our group of 16 needed room to spread out and we got everything we hoped for at the "ranch by the sea" and then some. Everything about the place worked for us: great private location, spacious grounds and pool, lots of room and ready access to all the local attractions. It was all very nice, but still felt comfortable and homey. As it turns out, as great as all of that is, the most amazing part of the whole experience had to do with the extra level of service provided by Bob, the owner and his family. Somehow he managed to go the extra mile without being intrusive. We had a great time with his horses not to mention his restaurant. Actually, its hard to think of much that could have improved the whole experience.

Let the party begin!!!!! “The Ranch by the Sea” provided our family (big in numbers) a most entertaining, comfortable & spacious home to begin celebrating one of the most memorable days of our life – OUR WEDDING 7/23/11. From the pool, to all pinball machines& video arcade games, ping pong table to billiard table every kid young and old, was entertained - we did not leave the house, except for our wedding ceremony. The patio was the ultimate gathering area in the house with a gorgeous view, comfortable seating & tables, shading, fire pit and heaters to enjoy the daytime or evenings outdoors. We held our rehearsal dinner at the house & our guests were in awe with the home as well as the food which we ordered from Bob’s café – The Pepper tree Hills Cafe. Bob made it happen. He is the Hostess with the ‘mostess’. Bob accommodated all our sleeping needs, and was prompt in all our requests personal or house-related. Bob presented us with an awesome wedding gift which added such a personal touch. When we decided not to cook, the café menu satisfied everyone’s appetite and their staff was amazing and so friendly. The café menu was delicious, especially the fish tacos, & located just down the street. The Ranch” is the home away from home for a memorable vacation, family reunion or just a getaway. Bob, thank you so much for adding more wonderful memories to our wedding weekend. You are a great host. Joseph & Nora

I never write reviews. Mainly because, I feel, If you pay good money for something, you pretty much get what you expect. Good service, nice surroundings etc. What compels me to write this review is, beyond receiving what my friends and I expected over the July 4th weekend was, more than any of us could of ever imagined. I invited about ten close friends down to the "Ranch by the sea", having never been there, i had no idea what to expect. The owner 'Bob' along with an incredible house, with incredible views and an incredible pool, made this into one of the most enjoyable experiences I can remember. You could be a group that just wants peace and quite or a family with children or a retired group of life long friends. Bob will personally tailor it to your needs. For us, he had delicious meals catered from his restaurant everyday, horseback riding, ATV rides and more ideas of things for us to do than i could've ever dreamt up. By the end, I feel like I made a new friend that i've known for years. Go see it for yourselves, relax, don't worry about anything, Bob will take care of it. Steve G.

This is my first official review......and I can't wait to gush about how wonderful this property is!! My family has stayed at this property a few times as it is the perfect home away from home.....with activities and amenities galore. The house itself is breathtaking, comfortable, very clean and well kept. This property is tucked away in the rolling hills of San Diego county, which gets us away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. But all of your needs are a short drive away. And one of the best parts....the owner (Bob) has his own restaurant in the quaint town of San Marcos just minutes away. We had several of our meals delivered to the house so that we wouldn't have to go anywhere....and the food was excellent. The owners are super guest friendly and during all of our stays have gone out of their way to make sure we had everything that we needed and wanted. We spent our days lounging by the pool, enjoying the magnificent views and going horse back riding right on the property. Our 2 kids would probably say that the horses were there favorite part!!! Bob is like the "Horse Whisperer" and is so fabulous with animals and the kids. The kids got to interact with the horses while Bob got them ready to ride...the whole time learning about all of the gear and why each step was important. The kids rode in the arena first and then Bob took them on a wonderful trail ride....the kids still talk about it! Aside from the horses and the pool the house is filled with so many other great activities..... Pool Table, Video Arcade Games, Foosball, Air Hockey.....it was plenty to keep our whole family entertained. And if you feel the need to go to the beach...it's only a short drive away. We haven't yet taken up Bob on his offer to drive his luxury motor home bus to the beach and park it for the day....but what an amazing offer.....one we are sure to experience in the future! At night our favorite thing to do was sit out on the wonderful deck and just take in the breathtaking view while sitting by the fire and having great conversation. This property has such a warm and welcoming energy about it...it will not be our last visit....we plan on going again in the near future and bringing some friends to enjoy what we keep bragging about!!! Thanks Bob, for all of the wonderful memories and stellar hospitality!! You are much appreciated.

Where do I begin my review of fantastic stay at the Ranch by the sea ? There is so much that makes this a perfect vacation destination. From its location in the beautiful San Eilijo Hills . Where you constantly feel the ocean breeze and are able to see Hot Air balloons gliding across the evening sky and then fall asleep under the gorgeous canopy of stars in the night sky. To being able to make your stay absolutely anything you want. As active as Horse back riding on the trails surrounding the property or in the arena the professional arena connected to the stables. Or maybe head to one of the beautiful beaches only minutes away and spend the day surfing or just sunbathing by the pool at the house. That's just for starters as the property is not far from San Diego itself and tons of shopping along with Sea World. the San Diego Zoo and more too. But the greatest thing I and my wife have found staying at the property several times is that no matter what it is you want to do from all of the above to absolutely nothing but laze around and relax Bob can and does make it happen. Whenever we have stayed at the property Bob has made it feel more like it was our home than a vacation property. Our stays have been the few times when we have returned home from a trip actually feeling better for going. I can not recommend this property or Bob and his amazing hospitality enough to anyone who truly wants to have an enjoyable and unforgettable vacation. From Retiree's to families of any size or couples looking for a romantic place this is it. I promise you go once you will be hooked and will be going back all the time .

We spent a week in this spectacular home in mid May. The house is spacious and open. Huge family room with views of the mountains, gourmet kitchen and comfortable bedrooms make it a pleasure to stay in. It is walking distance to hiking trails and a mile into the center of town. The unique surroundings offer lots of activities for children and adults. I would highly recommend this property whether its business or a romantic escape.

I have stayed at this property on two separate occasions. Once with my immediate family of 4 and another time for a family reunion. Let me start by saying that Bob, the owner, is great. He is very accommodating and can bring the property itself to another level of offering. The first time I rented the property I wanted to show my family a fun and relaxing time but didn't have a lot of activities planned, which I mentioned to Bob. He followed by offering to take us on his regular horseback ride through the beautiful California hills and also offered to park his luxury bus by the beach for a day. We took him up on both offers and everyone in my family had such enjoyable experiences that it has become our favorite vacation so far. The second time I rented the property was for a family reunion. We all stayed busy visiting and relaxing and enjoyed having a large house to accommodate everyone in the family. There are definitely many perks to the property itself. It has a way about feeling homey and peaceful but also offers so many games and activities that it's impossible to be bored. There is a great pool and spa for the whole family to enjoy and so many games I can't even remember them all. The games I do remember are arcade games, air hockey, ping pong, pool, pinball and foosball. The house also has plasma tv's, dvd players, satellite tv and wireless internet which makes it nice and versatile enough to entertain everyone. If you are into horses you will be in heaven. There is an arena on the property with beautiful horses and an amazing outdoor space with a fire pit and propane heaters if the night gets chilly. There is a fully equipped kitchen in the house and a grocery store only 1 mile down the street. Bob also owns a restaurant close by that can cater any event or simply prepare your food and drinks for any meal of any day which is an amazing luxury as well. I truly can't say enough about this property and the accommodations that come with it. I'm sure I will rent it for the 3rd time in the near future. Thanks Bob!
