R'HOME SWEET R'HOME: Stay in a fabulous apartment in one of Rome’s oldest neighborhoods, a few steps from St. Peter’s Basilica!
This accommodation combines the best that Rome has to offer: a recently renovated, light and comfortable apartment located in one of the city’s most historic quarters. The neighborhood, Rione Borgo, has cobblestone streets, artisans' workshops, neighborhood cafés and local trattorie.
It is within walking distance of the city’s major attractions, including the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, Castel Sant’Angelo, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza Campo de’ Fiori.
This ground-floor apartment is typical of this ancient district of Rome and it is elegantly furnished with modern fixtures. It has its own entry-way, a spacious living room with chimney (including a twin-size sofa bed and an ottoman bed), a kitchenette, a well-appointed bathroom and a master bedroom with original, Renaissance-era brick work.
The thick, Renaissance-era masonry provides cool relief from the summer heat.
Additional details: fully fitted kitchen with fridge, microwave oven and kettle; bathroom with bath tub/shower, dryer; TV; washing machine; boiler for independent heating; crib and high chair for younger children; Internet Wi-Fi; DVD reader and Video Library of 30 movies in English.
The apartment is easily accessible with public transportation, including tram, subway and bus. There are several nearby taxi stands and bicycles and scooters are available for rent. The nearby San Pietro train station has regular service to the Fiumicino airport and to the beach. There is even a taxi-boat service along the Tiber.
Guided tours available on request.
We would be happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

A Little Gem in Roma

We were very fortunate to have found this little gem on VRBO. We were impressed by the positive feedback and thought that the reviewers must be exaggerating. However, we could see on Google maps that the location was close to the Vatican and just a few blocks from the Metro, which would allow us to quickly and inexpensively visit the other famous landmarks in Rome. The calendar showed it was available for the three days in early May that we would be there so we emailed the owners, Roberta and Alessandro (Alex), and that was the beginning of the most amazing experience travelers could hope for. Talk about efficient! Roberta and Alex responded quickly and answered all our questions. We sent our deposit via Paypal and soon received a welcoming email with a wealth of information about Rome including tips on places to eat shop, etc.. Alex suggested that we have a driver pick us up at the airport and take us to the apartment, we agreed and he made the arrangements. Upon our arrival at the airport, the driver picked us up and drove us to the apartment where Alex was waiting to greet us. What a charming and friendly young man! The apartment is just the right size for two or three guests, newly renovated in a modern style, well stocked, and immaculately maintained, yet still retains many features of its centuries old heritage. The perfect combination! Alex is a history and architect buff and his pride in the apartment is palpable, and rightly so. He's an enthusiastic promoter of Rome. He provided a list of his favorite restaurants in the area, and even rated them. He also provided insight on what he believes to be the "best" Italian ice cream place. We couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations, the location, or our hosts. But that's not all! Because we had not decided upon an itinerary for a week or so of our trip, a few days after we left Rome we emailed Alex and asked if he could suggest a few places for us to visit. We emailed each other a few times, Alex always responding quickly and with lots of information. What a great ambassador for Italy! Alex even assisted us by arranging for a car with driver for our return trip to the airport (even though we were staying in a different VRBO offered apartment since his wasn't available our end of trip dates). We cannot say enough good things about the apartment, its location, and especially the owners, Roberta and Alessandro. They made our stay in Rome & Italy a wonderful and memorable experience!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We wanted to be close to St Peter's and the Vatican. This apartment was perfect. From the information on Roman history prior to our arrival, to our excellent driver from the airport, to the beautiful flowers in the apartment as well as the water and cakes, to purchasing additional souvenirs after our return home Alex and Roberta were very accomodating and gracious. Their apartment is absolutely wonderful, totally clean and well maintained with all the conveniences of home and more. The pictures of the apartment is exactly what you will have when you get there. The bed is so comfortable. The compact kitchen is good for morning meals and evening snacks. Lots of restaurants in the area which are good. St. Peter's Square is five minutes away. The bus, taxi and metro are very close by to get you to any part of Rome. Great place for two people but can accomodate more. I will recommend this apartment to my family and friends and hope to be back in the near future.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The location was great. Very close to St. Peter's Square (as in, one block away) and a 5-7 minute walk from the metro station that we used to connect to tourist spots like the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. The neighborhood was safe and very charming, especially at night, with lots of shops and restaurants and no traffic on Borgo Pio. The apartment has a historic charm. The bedroom has a beautiful exposed brick wall and two racks to hang up clothing during your stay (and a bed that was more comfortable than any of the others we had during our time in Italy). The kitchen nook isn't big, but it had everything we needed to cook a few meals during our stay. There are a few markets nearby, but I'd recommend the Despar grocery store that was located two blocks or so south of the apartment. The bathroom was very spacious and included plenty of towels and a hairdryer, among other amenities. The washing machine worked just fine, allowing us to pack lighter for the trip. Working with Alex and Roberta was easy. They were always quick to respond to any emails, offering helpful advice for our stay. We stayed in three different apartments in Italy over our holiday and this one was the most user-friendly. Alex told us everything we needed to know. Check in and check out were simple. Absolutely no problems or surprises. Overall, we had a great time in this apartment and would recommend it to anyone.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

It's that easy... The apartment is located in the heart of Rome, close to the Vatican and everything. We spent the week-end at Alessandro's apartment and honestly, I have stayed at many apartment all around the world, but this one was special. Alessandro and his wife are 2 sweet hearts. They will do anything to make sure you have a nice stay in Rome. The apartment was clean and just perfect. Thanks again Alessandro !!! The owners, Alex & Roberta, were absolutely wonderful! The apartment is in a very safe neighborhood right near the Vatican wall. Rome is VERY walkable so we didn't need to take any public transportation the entire time we were there. Alex is a history expert on Rome and can tell you anything you want to know! The restaurants he pointed us to did NOT disappoint - so try them out. Roberta & Alex were also very very helpful prior to our arrival - helping and answering questions about our trip - they even gave us tips AFTER we left via email when we were traveling in Tuscany. The apartment is clean, the bed is very comfortable and they filled the fridge with water and a sweet treat for our arrival. We would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Roma - a true gem.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The apartment was beautiful, and the location was excellent - extremely convenient. Close to St. Peter's Square, the Vatican, Castel St. Angelo, as well as a supermarket and a metro station, which made it very convenient to explore Rome. The Pope was our neighbor, and we loved taking our evening strolls to St. Peter's. Even better than the accommodations were Roberta and Alessandro, who provided us with in depth information about the history of Rome and were there for anything we needed, even after we left the apartment. This made us feel as if we had good friends who could help us out if we needed them in a foreign country. They were wonderful.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Dear unknown friend, We (two adults and two kids) spent amazing time in Rome and in this apartment. I absolutely agree with all previous reviews and would like to stress the most important (for us) points: 1. Communication with Alessandro was perfect. He answers e-mails almost immediately. 2. The final payment was without unpleasant surprises. 3. There is a real connection to the history in this apartment and via its design you feel like you are back in time. It’s needless to say that its location is very convenient. 4. The apartment was renovated, amazingly well maintained, very clean and extremely well equipped. Moreover, there are basic food items like tea, coffee, bread, butter, milk, jam….. . 5. Welcome service was just outstanding. Taking into the consideration that we arrived late, Alessandro prepared some breakfast food for us. This and other “small”, but important details immediately make you feel like at home. 6. Alessandro answered all our questions during planning phase and recommended many places. 7. Moreover, he helped us to solve a problem two weeks after we left this apartment. To finalize my recommendations: rent this apartment and you will not feel sorry.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We couldn't have gotten luckier with the location and quality of this rental, not to mention the incredible hospitality of the owners. Staying here made our honeymoon very special. It's a very romantic apartment tucked in a quiet neighborhood. They are not lying when they say 100 steps from St. Peter. We loved everything about our stay here, and will definately be coming back. Thanks guys! :)Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We spent 19 days in this wonderful apartment in the fall of 2011. Alessandro and Roberta are beyond accommodating, like friends we just hadn't met yet! The apartment is a perfect blend of the old and the new, beautifully decorated and furnished. The neighborhood is safe and comfortable with lots of charming shops and restaurants and only a minutes walk from St. Peter's and the Vatican. Public transportation is nearby, but many of Rome's best sites are within walking distance. This is the best value in Roma. We'd never think of staying anywhere else. Thank you Alessandro and Roberta.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
