  My family -- my husband, two children, and mother -- recently stayed in this house while vacationing in DC. The house is lovely, with lots of updates and plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The kid really liked having room for alone time each evening, with flat-screen TVs in every room. The neighborhood is blue collar for sure, but we never felt in the least unsafe. There is a very nice supermarket just a block or two away, and the Rhode Island Metro stop is just a few blocks further. and the neighborhood is on the upswing, with a new block of shops set to open in the next 6 months. A few things did need some attention. The house is due for new bath linens. The towels were tired, and there weren't many of them. Also, the mattress in the bedroom linked to the private bath was worn out and really needs replacing. Other than that, the house was in great shape!

• Great base for exploring DC

  I rented this home for 4 nights in December, sharing it with my two daughters. Other family members decided not to come so we had plenty of room but honesty this place can easily accomodate 8 people, if not more. The neighborhood is kind of generic, working class DC, certainly nothing special, but there is a grocery store and the usual take out places nearby. Seems like a very safe neighborhood. Just don't expect to have nice restaurants within walking distance. The metro station is a 7 minute easy walk and only 5 stops from Metro Center in the heart of downtown DC, so getting into town is easy. The house was very clean, the kitchen is stocked with the necessities to do some basic cooking, there is wifi and TV/DVD with a nice surround system. Parking is off the back, you have to drive around off Rhode Island Ave and turn into a long alley-like road, but we figured this out pretty easily. All in all, I'd definitely stay here again if I return to DC.

  There were 4 of us staying in the house for the week of christmas. It was close to all the amenities and very close to transit. The neighbourhood is mostly good but felt a little bit sketchy at night. We tried to make our christmas dinner with the cooking supplies that were there, but it was limited. Good for any other time than a big dinner. The hot water in the upstairs bathroom hardly exists, but that is really our only major critique.

  We stayed in this home over Thanksgiving weekend 2012 and were very pleased. Home was clean and had modern amenities, such as updated kitchen, plasma tvs and wireless internet. There was no hidden addl cleaning fees and the four bedroom 2 1/2 bath was spacious enough four my parents, husband and I and our three kids (rollaway in closet of room with adjoining bath). Suggestion for owners include having wine classes in stock, having heat looked at (when comfortable on first floor roasting upstairs), and adding an additional coach(livingroom large but inadequate coach space for size home. House does have some neighboring properties that were not nearly as well maintained but this property was in nice condition and only took us 10-15 minutes to get to all attractions from house. It is very close to metro but we were able to drive our car into city and fortunately find parking without problem.

  My family and I spent two weeks at this house in the fall and found it to be the perfect base camp for our explorations of Washington, DC. Our group of four kids and four adults were comfortable in the four bedroom house, which had plenty of space for playing in the open main floor rooms. With the metro just two blocks away, we were able to get downtown to the Mall and Capitol areas very easily; many buses also passed by, which provided another transportation option to Union Station and other areas of the city. The grocery store and CVS also were very convenient, which made cooking in the fully stocked kitchen very straightforward. The place is very clean but the furniture is not quite pristine - perfect for a family looking for a comfortable place from which to see DC. Highly recommended lodging!

  There were 6 of us that stayed for 5 nights. The house was as described, very clean, updated, comfortable beds and affordable. It was nice to come home to a spacious place after a long day seeing the sights and walking all day. It was close to the metro and an easy walk.. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 - more comfortable seating in the living room would have been nice. The house sits on a major street so the front bedrooms are noisy. Overall, we would recommend this house to others.

  We had two couples, each with a teen daughter and stayed 7 days recently. The house was exactly as posted. Nicely updated, comfortable beds. Easy walk to the Metro. While the neighborhood is older, many houses around are being updated along with the new shopping and apt areas near the Metro. Felt safe while walking in a group at night, and alone in the AM to go to the nearby CVS. Calls to manager (Jim) with questions were answered and items taken care of - like how to work the TV/Audio equipment and kitchen dish towels. Rhode Island street has a lot of traffic so it was noisy, especially in the front bedrooms (reason for the 4 and not a 5) -but we still slept. Plenty of space to spread out with 4 bedrooms. More casual seating in the LR would be a nice addition. Giant grocery store is 2 blks.

  My family rented this lovely home for a week's stay in DC. 2 Seniors, 5 adults and a 2 year old. The 4 bedrooms worked perfectly for us. It was nice to each have our own space after a long day of sight seeing. The living space could use more seating for large groups (my reason for a 4 star instead of 5) 1 sofa bed and 1 small piece of a sectional - otherwise had to sit on dining room chairs. But overall it suited our needs and we had a great time. I would recommend this clean and well maintained rental home especially for families.

  The good: 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, laundry facilities, large open living/dining area, grocery and metro nearby, parking area at rear. The bad: "Transitional" neighborhood - seems safe enough during the day. I wouldn't want to walk around at night. Billed as sleeping up to 11, but only had 7 bath towels on arrival. Ink jet printer was out of ink so we couldn't print out discounted bus/trolley tour tickets at internet only price. Dirty floors. Looked "clean" but after walking on the floors for 10 minutes and finding black grime on socks and feet bottoms, it was obvious the floors hadn't been mopped for a long time. Lack of communication. I left several voicemails for the property manager that weren't returned. I confirmed that we would have 2 parking spaces before reserving because I knew we would have 2 cars. On our 2nd day, we returned from a long day of sightseeing to find a car parked in one of the spots. It turns out that the long term renter in the basement parked there. Knocked on the door and asked them to move over a bit. There was space for 3 cars. Still, it was a bit annoying and surprising. They obviously did not alert the renter that we would need 2 parking spaces. Communication issues were perhaps magnified by the recent power outages causing cell towers to be out. Jim did respond to requests of more bath towels and ink jet ink. He also contacted the downstairs renter to alert them to our requirement of 2 parking spaces. However, the floor was supposed to be mopped in our absence Monday, but they were not or were done very poorly as we continued to see black grime on our socks and feet after returning that evening. Overall, my rating would have been 4 1/2 stars were it not for these issues. Some were minor but they added up. The lack of communication was the most concerning issue. Based on other reviews, perhaps this was an anomaly related to the recent power outage.
