Private Homes cottage description
The cottage is located right on the ocean. You will have direct access to the beach. Sitting on the deck, watching the shrimp boats in the evening and the sunrise in the morning while you enjoy breakfast in the screened-in porch on the deck; it doesn't get any better than this. The house is within walking distance of the Main Beach, putt putt golf, basketball courts, a skateboard park, a very nice public swimming pool with an entertaining kiddie pool and Fort Clinch State Park. There is a Kwik Mart/gas station down the road for those last minute supplies. Across the road is a surf shop for those of you who want to try surfing. There is a restaurant within walking distance.

This was such a perfect little cottage to get away with! My wife and I were celebrating our 2 year anniversary and we could have not picked a better place. I don't often write reviews, but I felt this place was so good that I had to. It was right on the beach. There's a nice little path that is right behind the house and goes right to it. In the morning we got up early to catch the sunrise and had a perfect view sitting on the back porch. Everything is close by from restaurants, Publix, to miniature golf it's alright there. Anyone that is looking to get away for the weekend or even the week I would definitely recommend this place! We will be coming back!

Owner response: We are SO glad that you and your wife enjoyed your time there. It is the perfect place to watch the sunrise over the ocean. Thank you for the review and please do think of Beachy Keen for future stays at the beach!
Casual beach lifestyle captures our spring break!
Casual beach lifestyle captures our spring break!
Shells line windowsills, suggesting a camaraderie of beach goers. Happy art adorns walls in comfy rooms. Pink sunrises draw us through glass sliding doors to a wide deck where we spend time in PJs or swimsuits with coffee or snacks. A near-empty beach, even at spring break, is just steps away, laced with shells and inviting smooth long walks or a dip in ocean waves. A vacation at this peaceful, cozy beach cottage is exactly what we needed! Close to a lovely historic downtown and to our Cumberland Island Park destination, yet far from bustle and tourism. Thank you, pleasant owners! We are still smiling!

Owner response: Thank you for the wonderful response. It is a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy on the beach. We feel good that you share our love and appreciation of the ocean. But, you also live on one of the Great Lakes...the magic of water :)
Enjoyable to be right on the beach and very handy by car to old Fernadina restaurants and shops. Very clean, comfortable and nice inside so don't let modest looking exterior give you concern. Entrance is from deck which reqires steps to upper level but deck has nice view of the water and looks secure for small children. We liked our visit and would rate at 4.5 out of 5. Hope to return in the future for a longer stay.

What a charming place! We saw the dolphins, met Charlie, endured a storm, hunted for and found sharks teeth, and joined a search w the Amelia Island Sea turtle watchers for misdirected baby turtles! Felt at home immediately and enjoyed the view. The storm knocked over the bloom stalk of the century plant, that I wish I could have seen in its prime.

We loved the place, i will come back, and there is a great moment on that proch that i will never forget, after ten long years with my boyfriend he actually asked me to marry him on that beautiful porch overlooking the ocean! The one thing i would want to see change is the beds are a little harder than i excepted and the ac in the living room needs to be bigger to help cool the hole house, our guest that was with us stayed rather warm the entire time bc he couldnt feel the ac in the twin room!!! WE HAD A BLAST AND LOVED THE LOCATION, right off of Main Beach and in walking distance to whatever we needed gas station, resturant and surf shop! we had the neighbor get mad at us and rude bc we parked on the far side of where the parking was by the beach instead of blocking them in and he didnt like it and TOLD us we could park there so we parked right beside the front steps and then he was kinda blocked in. We meet Charlie on the beach he was a hoot! glad to know there are such friendly people on the island we even had fun with alot of the locals on our visit ,so anyone wishing to go on vaca there dont be a prude, try to be friendly they are all so very nice there! Thanks guys for having us and we would love to come back next year, hope to see you soon!

We really had a wonderful time at Beachy Keen it was perfect for us. We had a family gathering at and the hugh deck was ideal. The property was clean and well maintained. The location was perfect the local Restaurants was a short distance away. The sunrise from the deck was incredible while we sat there and on the screened in section drinking our coffee. The owners are very pleasant and answered all of questions. The description is accurate and you count on us renting Beachy Keen again.

Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: My time is spent as a home remodeling contractor. And I am busy all the time with that job. My spare time is spent at the island. We love to come here with our new grandchildren, who are just discovering playing in the sand.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We came to Amelia Island for a realtor friend that needed help on their condo. We loved it here and realized that Amelia Island is truly 'Florida's Best Kept Secret'. There are no crowds and it is a short distance from Jacksonville Airport and the culture that Jacksonville offers if that is your choice. We enjoy long walks on the beach and going for a swim if we feel like it.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Watching the sun rise from the deck, watching the dolphins jump and dance, seeing the shrimp boats bring in their catch, pelicans flying in formation over the deck, the unique character of downtown Fernandina Beach, wonderful restaurants all with their own charm, friendly people everyplace you go, walking on the beach and finding cool shells. These are but a few of the benefits to staying on the beach.
