This home is the Historic Gate House of the William Rett Plantation in Annsonboro. We are located just off Meeting Street. There are many excellent restaurants less than one block from the house. The Gate House is located in a beautiful garden which is often on the Charleston Garden Tours. You are shaded by ancient live oak trees with Spanish moss. You can walk to anywhere downtown.
History: The Gate House is part of the William Rett Plantation. The main house is considered by many to be the oldest house in Charleston. The market area is two blocks away. Carriage tours pass the house throughout the day.
Home Tours: This is the perfect location for the spring and fall Charleston Tours of Historic Homes. We are often on the tour. The garden outside the gate house surrounding a pond with water lilies, Koi fish and our fountain is one of the few gardens in Charleston visible from the street.

We LOVED this place. Our time there was an experience we will not forget. It could not have been a better location to be on foot. the free trolley was one block away, grocery store 3 blocks and 5 star restaurant literally across the street with many others a block or tow away. The Gate House had everything we needed for our stay.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This rental is in an excellent location. You can walk anywhere you want to go and there are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. The property itself, however, is not in the best state of cleanliness or repair. In that respect, we were disappointed. Also, the owners are not very communicative. We never received acknowledgment of our deposit, nor instructions for finalizing the transaction. Emails regarding how to access the property went unanswered . It took two telephone calls to get that information. All in all, not a top rating from us.Owner response: We are very sorry this group was not pleased. The property is over 200 years old and kept as original as possible. It has not been overly restored. We follow the Historic Charleston motto of "Gut Fish Not Houses". For groups who want accommodations in "better" condition we recommend three luxury hotels with simulated historical features within one block. We have not had any prior complaints with monthly rentals for over 10 years. We did have a death in the family near the time of this visit and may not have been able to respond as promptly as they would like.

This property is ideally located in the heart of historic downtown Charleston. Easy walking distance to all restuarants, shopping (fashion and grocery) and everything else Charleston has to offer. The accomodation is perfect for one couple with seperate upstairs bedroom and full bath and living and kitchen downstairs. The garden is fabulous and the owners are very friencldy and full of local information yet very discreet letting us feel like the place was our own. Full kitchen facilities including a washer and dryer made it perfect for an active vacation of cycling and running.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
