I was looking for a nice, comfortable B&B for me and my girl friend (we're in our late 40-50s) in the area of Falling Waters. My search came up with dozens in the area. Some looked like Amish nightmares, others like my grandma's place, i.e. not updated since 1952, while others seemed to be just a room-for-rent and not a professionally managed B&B. I also wanted a place close to Falling Waters (35 minutes) and not too far from Swallow Falls State Park (60 min.) where we were coming from. As a former professional travel writer and photographer, I have seen my share of both great and horrible B&B's. Luckily, I found the Awakenings Guest House website. It's a beautifully restored farm house on a horse farm, so the feeling is "out in the country". Their website room photos simply don't do the place justice. When we arrived we met the house manager, who showed us around, gave us a bit of the farm's history, and gave us a bottle of wine compliments of the owners. Since I think we were the only people there that night, the house was very quiet. It seemed we had the run of the place. Our room was a 2-room suite. The sitting area had a large leather sofa, table, buffet, and a large flat screen. The bedroom was large, plush and comfortable. The bath room was well appointed with a nice walk in shower (no tub) and good hot water. Quality wood furniture, feather top mattress, down comforter, thick cotton towels, nice pillows, large wall-mounted flat screen TVs, and nice drapes, were typical. The floors are dark quarry tile and the ceilings are all beautiful antique patterned tin. Lots of windows open to a farm view and allowed for a nice draft (no A/C). The place is new so everything worked perfectly. If you're comfortable at a high-end Hyatt or Four Seasons, you'll be comfortable here. After we returned from dinner, we took a walk around the horse pastures and watched the sun set. A couple of the horses even came to us to be petted. In the morning, one of the patio tables was set for our breakfast, including a selection of fresh fruits, muffins, yogurt, bagels, ham, cheeses, and juice/coffee. While it is a beautiful and comfortable property, it's not in the least bit stuffy. We didn't take advantage of the horseback riding but it's available. PROS: comfortable, beautifully appointed, great value. CONS: no A/C, loud trucks driving by in the AM woke us a bit early (8AM). Bottom line - I wish all B&B's were this comfortable. 5-STARS!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

During the last week of September we spent 3 days at the farm. The rooms are immaculate, beautifully appointed with comfortable beds, wi-fi and an attentive staff. Each afternoon 1 special treat arrived for our enjoyment: wonderful home made apple pie, salsa and chips or cheese, crackers and a good bottle of wine! In the morning a B and B type breakfast was provided - at a time of our choosing - allowing us to sleep in before starting the daily exploring. Although we did not take advantage of the horses the farm provided a good base for visiting friends in Pittsburgh, seeing the musical,Wicked, touring both Frank Lloyd Wright homes and the 9 / 11 Memorial. Thanks to the staff for making our visit so enjoyable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and had an amazing time. The house has recently been renovated and the rooms are comfortable and lovely. Everyone who works here is friendly and accommodating. Be sure to take a trail ride- it is well worth it! Falling Water was about 45 minutes away. There is a great bike path nearby. They are also near the town of Ohiopyle which is quaint and offers rafting trips. This was a great weekend in the country. We will definitely be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I was looking for a B&B that had horseback riding on site and I found the perfect place. The restored farmhouse's accommodations were awesome, the bed was comfortable, and our 2 room suite was spacious and nicely decorated. I arranged for riding lessons in the morning, and a trail ride in the afternoon. Megan, or instructor was great. It rained during the morning, so we used the indoor riding arena to learn some horse riding basics. Then after a lunch break we took our trail ride around the 500+ acre farm. We had a great day. The owner's are very open and welcoming people, it will interesting to see what they do with the farm in the next few years. We will return to share the experience with our children in the near future. If you're looking for a B&B farmhouse and want to ride horses, look no further.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
