(The following was very eloquently, beautifully and truthfully written by one of our guest at Camp Custer Log Cabins!)
Make your vacation mean more than a motel and listening to stranger’s voices in the night! Make it an affordable home away from home, watching eagles soar, savoring peaceful surroundings and so much more!
Imagine adding historic value to your vacation while sleeping in the same cabins once occupied by brave soldiers! What an honor to sit at the same table Colonel Lattimore fashioned with his hands! Imagine waking up to the whistling meadow larks, relishing spectacular sunrises, roaming deer, and other magnificent creatures! The same serenity the soldiers encompassed in the midst of turmoil can now bring peace and order to your busy life! There’s more!
Imagine the hoot of a barn owl and coyote’s distant calls causing you to duck beneath the covers! Snug and warm; you’re drawn to an orange glow on the wooden deck. It’s the harvest moon rising, above the dark hills, in all its glory! Throwing a robe and slippers on, you rush outside to enjoy the rest of the velvet sky, now dazzling with stars! The quiet whoosh of wind, blowing through the spice scented pines trees, sends slight chills down your back. You begin to wonder what beauty remains untapped in the winter season! Loading logs into the fire pit, family and friends join you around the campfire. Coffee, cocoa, snacks, story telling and laughter soon follow. Longing to soak the soothing aura in by yourself, you sit back and smile. These moments are truly meant to be shared. There’s more!
With an ample amount of money still left in your pocket, your car is packed and ready to go, but you’re not. Behind you surely feels like home, a place you’ve found great rest. Ahead is an adventure through the hills. With mixed emotions, you turn to take another look. Spring would surely burst with vibrant wild flowers flowing in the field and up to the rustic log cabins! The baby bird’s chirping would bring smiles to your morning, along with chipmunks rushing up and down the trees! What about the summer? Volleyball, sing-a-longs, relaxing with a good book, legs stretched out, perhaps with no one around. The fall is an absolutely gorgeous array of colors from the ground to the sky! And winter? Building snowmen and snowball fights would revive your youth! How stunning the glitter of the pristine snow in the moonlight would be, equally matched with a passionate night in front of the fireplace! Treasured moments and lasting memories; it’s a taste of heaven on earth! Yes, you agree, it’s a place to call home away from home! Are we there yet? -Annie Hudson, Copyright 2015
