Perfect for the family vacation or a romantic getaway for two, this secluded cedar log cabin is nestled in a picturesque valley among three wooded acres on the banks of the Nottely River, just outside of Murphy, North Carolina. The Great Smoky Mountains surround the area and provide spectacular views, as well as an abundance of outdoor activities.
Enjoy beautiful sunsets over the mountains from rocking chairs on the wrap-around porch or reading by the magnificent riverstone fireplace. As evening nears, drift off to the sound of whip-o-wills in the distance and the glow of fireflies illuminating the sky. In the mornings, awaken to the melody of geese circling the nearby lakes.
The cabin offers spacious vaulted family and dining rooms, a sleeping loft, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and is comfortably furnished.

My family and I stayed here the last 2 weeks of June 2012. We enjoyed our stay very much. The yard is big and watching the kids run and play was worth it in itself. Lady, the neighborhood dog was waiting for my kids to get up most mornings and she would hang with us fishing/swimming in the lake too.The river had a fish kill the year prior to our stay. According to locals the generator was down at the nottely damn so warm surface water flowed over the damn and killed all the trout. Apparently the river was known for large, albeit tough to catch trout. I did wrangle 3 nice ones right from the back yard. Bigger than your average stocker, but nothing giant. One guy who lived on the river didn't even know the trout were making a comeback. This cabin makes a good central location to fish both the little Tennessee and Hiwassee river basins. I caught trout from the nantahala and hiwassee rivers, as well as fires, tusquittee, and junaluska creeks. We also rented a boat on Lake Hiwassee for 2 days and had a BLAST!! We saw beavers a few times, deer and tons of different birds. We also ate wild blackberries to our hearts content. If you try one and its not that good, try a different area. We found a nice spot where the berries were sweet and yummy. The lake has smallmouth, largemouth, crappie, bluegills, and yellow perch. The river also held real nice yellow perch. If you have very young children, the steps may be an issue, but for our 3 year old it wasn't to much of a problem, just be a normal watchful parent and they are fine. If I had to complain about anything it would be the gas stove. It lacked some safety features, and the drawer below it is supposed to be used for broiling, so don't grab pans from there if the oven is on. We would definitely go back again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with young children.

we stayed here in the fall of 2005. We have wonderful memories from this house. I do recall though that we had a difficult time contacting the owner AFTER the rental, regarding return of security deposit, but we did get it back. Hoping to go back again someday.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.

>the listing was as described >the photos were accurate to reflect all amenities >the property was clean and maintained but dust clinging to fixtures over counter area in kitchen and all fans. (attention to details is needed) >The owner was somewhat helpful in answering questions in the begining but could not be contacted/or in contact with concerns after the stay >Would recommend this property but with cautions >would recommend water rafting >owner seems to be limited on time to deal with rentalDid you find this review helpful? My family and I just spent the week after Christmas in this fabulous cabin and can't wait to go back. With 6 adults, 4 children, and a large dog (95lbs) we are quite the crowd but this cabin had plenty of space for all of us. Everything that you could need was already there, even fun games and books for both adults and children. It's rare to find a place with a table large enough to have the whole family at a meal together but the very grand dining room here had room to spare. There were several upgrades to the interior of the house including a flatscreen tv and satellite tv so we were able to watch all of the football games over the holiday which was great! There was about 9 in of snow when we arrived and the property couldn't have been more beautiful - snow forts and snowmen armies abounded. The kids loved the rope swing and the adults enjoyed the porch swing and rocking chairs. While it says the property is 3 acres it feels like much more- there is a mix of open space/views and wooded area for exploring. The river/creek is absolutely amazing, crystal clear water and the at the property edge lead down to an enchanting and . By the end of the week the snow had melted and it was up in the 50's so we had a wonderful new year's eve bonfire down by the fire pit where we roasted marshmallows and hotdogs. We kept intending to go to old historic downtown Murphy to look around but we never made it because we kept finding so many fun things to do at the cabin. What a great way to ring in the new year! Thanks for a great stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners.

What a beautiful cabin! Our family (10 people) rented the cabin and had a great time. We even got snow! The cabin has all the room we needed and met all of our expectations. The yard was great for the kids to run and play. Definitely worth the trip!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family spent a lovely weekend at the mountain river cabin this spring. The location is perfect for a family traveling from Atlanta. You are away from the city, but the drive is manageable for young children. The cabin is well appointed and decorated, the view is calming, and the area is charming. We did a little sightseeing in the area, but the main attraction is the cabin and just getting away from it all. You have a great cabin and we will be back – our kids keep asking us when.Curtis & Natalie KohlhaasDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
