Little House on the Bay---Door County Retro Style/ Comfortable--
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
From this sun lit clearing in the 3.5 acre woods along the Door County shore, visitors will experience the tranquility, the freshness, and the beauty of this peninsula. The backyard makes a perfect morning birding site. Grab an afternoon nap on the deck. At night observe the brilliant sky and conduct your own meteor count. Awaken to the song birds; fall asleep to the sounds of waves. Explore the woods on the property, looking for wild flowers in the spring or visit any of several local parks, located nearby: Newport Park, Door Bluff County Park. Hike or bike the local roads summer and fall or head for many designated hiking areas. Sled the lane in the winter and x-country at nearby trails. Take a short walk to the local coffee house in Gills Rock for morning coffee or midmorning cherry pie. Have dinner at The Shore Line Restaurant in Gills Rock , one of Door's best restaurants; it, too, is just a short stroll.

We stayed at Little House On The Bay in the middle of October - we couldn't have picked a better spot. We have been to Door County many times, and this place is the best we have ever been to. A cozy house in a very cozy setting, and a view of the Bay right out of the living room window is stunning! Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by a warmed-up house and all the little touches showed how much the owner cared about making our stay as pleasant and care-free as possible. One of many great things about the House is the addition of the steps taking you down, right to the edge of water - a picnic there is a must for our next stay! This is definitely a place we will be coming back to. That is, if we can reserve it well in advance - with a location and setting like that, the House is sure to be THE destination for many Door County enthusiasts! Natasha A.Owner response: We enjoy hearing that our guests have enjoyed their stay with us and very much like to know that they will be returning for a much deserved "getaway" in Door County.

My wife and I came up for our first anniversary with our dog. Great yard for her to run around (the dog, not the wife.) Although, she and I did enjoy going down to the rocks right on the water. The fire pit is nice, especially for our late October weekend. Gills Rock is very quiet. At the northern tip of the peninsula. Most of the "action" is to the south, but it's only 10-15 minutes to neighboring towns with more going on. It's the best of both worlds. Quiet, but conveniently located. It's an excellent little cottage. Everything was wonderful. Great hosts. We hope to visit again next fall. Thanks for having us!Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: This is our newest property and we are always pleased when our guests come to our house(s) and enjoy their Door County experience---

As far as I can gather, there are three methods to take in Door County - 1) the campy, kitschy, quaint small-town stroll-with-an-ice-cream-cone-by-the-harbor and shop-for-handcrafted oven-mittens before we go back to our B&B path; 2) the pack-up-the-Explorer-with-North Face-fleeces and strap-on-the-kayak-and-Trek-mountainbike route; or, 3) the 'do nothing' way. If looking for the latter, this is it. If your idea of a perfect vacation is a frosty beverage in an Adirondack chair on a private cliff over the water, sipping and watching the sunset, enjoying the quiet, the dark, the trees; or building a roaring fire and not moving for hours, contemplating life with the lapping of the flame and the quiet roar of the Bay; or sleeping late, craning your neck from bed to peep the water, before a leisurely stroll to the Shoreline Restaurant for jerk whitefish sandwiches and bloody mary's; or unhurriedly grilling sausages on a gas grill while staring at the horizon line and the growing number of stars (with the thank-god-we're-not-camping knowledge that you can sleep in a bed tonight); or being ensconced in a cozy little wood-paneled paradise at the end of your own private wooded drive... then pass by all of D.C.'s curd shops, wineries, and trails. The tip of the thumb is the end of it all and everything we were hoping to leave behind. With such a perfect spot, it hardly even mattered that Dan was so helpful, welcoming, and friendly. But he was. And it made the find all the more magical. One million thanks to our hosts, and we hope to see you again soon.Owner response: We really appreciate having our guests come to Door County and share their enjoyable stay with us. Memories are made and enjoyed here.

This place is beautifully maintained and has a lot of charm! Right on the water, serene and peaceful, easy access to Sister's Bay and Ellison Bay too. Chartered a boat from Gills Rock and caught 6 Salmon (15-21lbs each!) and had it smoked in town (Charlie's Smokehouse). Explored the shore with our dog Lily along for the whole ride! We LOVED our weekend here and can't wait to make another trip soon! Thanks Dan for being such an amazing host! We will see you soon!Owner response: We really enjoy having those who choose to stay with us have an enjoyable adventure in Door County. I can tell you first hand that the salmon fish , caught in Lake Michigan, was very tasty as Abbey and her husband Michael were very generous in sharing their catch of fish with us.

We were looking for a place to escape from the noise and pollution of the big city. Boy did we find it and so much more. This property was absolutely beautiful, peaceful and very romantic. Sitting by the cliff watching the sunset was just what we were looking for. The cabin has everything you could possibly need and Dan is very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring Door County, hiking, antiquing and the cherry pies!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We really enjoy having people stay with us that really know how to enjoy and make the most of their stay in Door County. It was a pleasure meeting these folks.

On our first trip ever to Door County, we lucked into this wonderful setting and home. The land itself and the views are beautiful, the quiet unrivalled, and the owners exceptionally friendly and helpful. We appreciated the coziness of the cottage, its cleanliness, and the good simple taste in all the decor. The property offers the perfect combination, in our estimation, of quiet and solitude with all the attractions of Door County within easy enough reach by car. In our week there, we saw two productions by Door Co. Shakespeare in Bailey's Harbor, spent a day on Washington Island, made several little jaunts into the more crowded and touristy Bayside towns, swam at nearby sandy beaches, and still had plenty of time to hang around the property and read and relax and admire the lake. We look forward to returning as seasoned visitors!Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We enjoy seeing our guests/renters ,that choose to stay with us, spend a wonderful holiday period together while exploring Door County--our little piece of Heaven.
