Paia house description
Welina mai kakou! E kipa mai ia makou e 'ike i ka nani o Pa'ia..
Greetings to us all. Visit us to witness the beauty of Pa'ia...
Welcome to Hale Nihi Bed & Breakfast. We are located on Maui’s North Shore, on Baldwin Avenue in Historic Paia Town. Staying here at Hale Nihi B&B, you will enjoy the convenience of being within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes, with access to post office, bank services, and yoga studios, while also having the opportunity to visit sites such as the Great Paia Peace Stupa (recently visited by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in April 2007) and the world-renowned surf spot, Ho’okipa Beach Park, along with some of Maui’s most beautiful sandy beaches.
Maui’s North Shore offers something for everyone! Whether you are seeking the steady warm trade winds for windsurfing and kite surfing, the consistent ocean swells generated by storms far to the North of the Hawaiian Islands, relaxed times soaking up the warm sun on a quiet beach with calm waters or simply driving around exploring the many diverse micro climates ranging from tropical lush rain forests with natural waterfalls to the cool moon-like landscape found at the summit of Haleakala, Hale Nihi B&B offers a convenient central location as your base.
Paia has a rich history as a former sugar plantation town. Evidence of its history can still be seen today, as remnants of the Old Paia Sugar Mill still stands in the distance and sugar cane is still being grown in clear view. Staying at Hale Nihi offers you a glimpse into Paia’s history with vast and expansive views of green fields as far as the eye can see with the jagged ridges and peaks of the West Maui Mountains as its backdrop.

Convenient and comfortable
Convenient and comfortable
We spent four nights at Hale Nihi. Avis (the owner) was very responsive throughout communications beforehand, and very warm and responsive throughout our stay there. If you want to walk to the restaurants & shops of Paia town, the location of Hale Nihi is great. The downside of the uber convenient location is the noise. Hale Nihi is directly on Baldwin Ave (the main street) about 2 blocks out of the 'downtown' part of Paia. Traffic on Baldwin, including many trucks, begins early (circa 4:30-5 AM each day) and doesn't stop till night, and it is clearly audible (even loud) from inside Hale Nihi. There are also a couple roosters in close residence of Hale Nihi, and if the traffic didn't wake us, the roosters did. I wore earplugs and that helped, but even through them I could still hear both roosters and traffic. We stayed in the larger unit, Sunset. It is very comfortable and we felt at home. Note though, that there is no air conditioning (not uncommon for the North Shore), and the two fans are over the main hanging out areas, not over the bed. The weather was good, and although the fans were effective, we still had to keep all the windows open with the fans on to stay comfortable (open windows don't help diminish noise either). The bed was very comfortable; there's free wireless, and the futon/couch is great to lounge on. The kitchen was stocked with pots.pans etc which was great, and Avis gave us bagels and chocolate covered mac nuts when we arrived, and keeps a supply of coffee/tea/condiments in the unit for guests to use. We didn't see the other unit, Sunrise, but what is pictured as the lanai for Sunrise is a small opening in the garage - not somewhere you'd really want to hang out. All in all, a good stay and a fantastic location in a comfortable place; the big downside is the noise.
